Carolyn - I met you several years ago at the harp retreat in Ashville - I recently borrowed a double-strung to see if I could play it. Your videos popped up first and I am reminded how much I enjoyed spending time with you. Your relaxed manner and sense of humor make me feel like a kindred spirit. Very helpful ideas and I know if I lived closer we would be great friends. Many thanks and I hope our life paths cross again - on this side anyway. Greeting from Bremerton Washington! Be well Edie Enns

What a sweet note! I hope you enjoy that little double. I'll eventually have small retreats at my property, just for double-strung harp. Let me know if you want to be on my "double" mailing list. Happy harping, Carolyn

How are the lever changes with levers on both sides? This seems harder to me if there are a lot of chromatic changes. But the resonance is very lovely.
@Smilingharp2 жыл бұрын
For RH lever changes you slide your right hand up the string and push the lever up (or down). Or you create a tune with pre-set levers. Or play the part where you flip levers on the left. You can play melody in LH and chords in RH so I do that on some parts of some tunes.

@@Smilingharp great thanks!... you're right.. this harp gives you more possibilities fingerings and placings to prevent buzzing.

As a double harp builder and player, I can only agree. Double harps have the additional advantage that the tension is balanced on both sides of the neck, so the instrument is more stable. cheers from rainy Vienna, Scott

How exciting! Do you have a youtube video? OR website? I'd love to hear one of your harps played,

@@Smilingharp Thanks for your interest. Sorry, no website yet. Working on a youtube video. But here's a sample: soundcloud.com/scott-wallace-189088488/truckin cheers from rainy Vienna, Scott

Is the tension on the double strings lighter to pluck than a single strung harp?
@therealzilch3 жыл бұрын
@@robinmaine9368 It depends. My double harp is very lightly built and strung and thus has lower tension to pluck than most harps I've played. But there's no general rule- doubles can be built with any desirable tension, just as singles can.

Are you playing the mahogany or the cherry?
@Smilingharp3 жыл бұрын
that one is curly maple which they don't make any more.
@Smilingharp3 жыл бұрын
the entrance music is either walnut or cherry - I think cherry

Oo, watching your double-string videos is certainly helping to convince me a double strung harp will be great to play and learn on. I like the size of this harp. How many strings has it and what size is it classed as? Kind regards Margaret.
@Smilingharp5 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you found out about double strung! The Lorraine that I often play in videos is 29 strings on each side, so 58 strings total. The lap harps I play in many videos are 22 strings on each side, so 44 strings total. i can send you measurements etc. too; Email me at smilingharp@gmail.com. There are harp model demo video links on southeasternharps.com website. Seeing them will help you hone in on which harp you want to hug and play! The Double Strung Lorraine Demo shows you tons about the type of harp I play in the video. Happy harping! Carolyn

that's what is so fun about it - people think you are a genius when you play it. I call it a "Cheater's harp."

You are just cheating with this harp I love my harp with one row of Strings ya we learn more and really can do more. But you guys are just saying you can't play our harp because it's much to difficult for you. Ya go ahead show off.

ha ha! Yes, lots of people who play double also play single, but I never could get good at single and really blossomed when I got more strings and freedom. I love my "cheater's harp." :-)
