Smite 2 - Ares rework showcase

Hello, another new Smite 2 hero gameplay showcase from developers stream about 4th alpha weekend. Susano gameplay showcase was already shown and this video is about Ares - 21 th (or 20th) new hero in Smite 2 alpha. Some of his abilities got rework, some abilities are same as they were in Smite

Idk why tf people are mad at the passive, they literally expanded his playability from just support to basically anywhere he wants.

No it went from being restricted to aura items to restricted to protections and cdr. Which is fucking dumb since the reason they changed it was to not restrict builds or item choice and then give him a new passive that does the exact same fucking thing just slightly better as protections and cdr are better than aura items. But I don’t want to play the god of war as a fucking support or tank. I thought with Smite 2 they would do him justice and properly rework the kit or atleast not restrict builds at all like crit Ymir which they didn’t shut up about before the first alpha, but again thanks to the restricting your forced to a support/tank role so the 2 main selling points of Smite 2 being god changes/reworks and having build variety to play any god in any role pretty much. Which they failed on Ares in both aspects. That’s why people are mad, they say new passive to remove restricts then keep said restrictions, say they changed his 2nd ability which they didn’t. So who wouldn’t be mad when there lying to our faces while showing gameplay of the complete opposite.

@@starmoral5456 Your either building damage and since that’s incorrect way to play and build him that obviously dosen’t count. So playing him correctly your not killing anyone by yourself unless there trash, new or a bot. It does not equal damage otherwise you could play him other roles but as he is a support and dosen’t do damage meaning he can’t solo clear lane or jg. Restricted to aura items or now protections and cdr isn’t a hybrid build either. Pick a side of the fence is he a heavy cc tank or a damage dealer. Cause I want a hybrid damage dealer and your giving me shit for it, and try to say that the god of war’s identity is a heavy cc tank then turn around and say he does damage. So your either trash at smite and ares or again don’t know what the words god, war, tank, or damage means cause your constantly contradicting yourself due to your diminished mental capacity.

The QOL changes are absolutely amazing, my only concern is his dmg being broken but definitely looking great.

The passive is definitely better but probably could've gone a lot further, it still feels like an early smite 1 passive, no real game-defining mechanic, still just extra power from building certain items, its functional but boring

I want to see items like glad shield never come back and have tanks be sustained damage beefcakes that can slowly wittle a dps away if they try to box with them, as it should be

Why is Ares not a Warrior yet? He's the god of war not the god of protections. Overall though, not forcing him to build aura items is nice because he may end up being a semi-viable solo laner, depending on how viable his wave clear is. It's always nice to let Gods explore new roles, imo, but I'm more than a little disappointed that he wasn't explored more in his full hybrid capacity. It might be too early to say that, though.

And combat blink needs to get dumpstered. One of the things I appreciated about smite all this time is that people with no mobility can't just default build blink and get a free pass to act like an idiot and just blink out. That's going to make smite feel a lot more like league. Where everyone runs flash in every game and your entire game loop is trying to fish for burning flash, then they play like bitches for 5 minutes until they have flash up again and then they may try to engage you. It's bad gameplay that encourages poor skill performance.

Smite 1 Ares has given AA dmg for 3? seasons now. Maybe longer? I'm very bothered that in the notes and the video multiple devs have claimed an old feature is a rework? It's effectively the exacts same ability with no HP5 and a fluctuating duration

Yeah agree. The AA damage has been incorporated to his 2 for quite a while now so it's an oversale to say that this is something new. Stat-wise, the base version of this ability is not as good as Smite 1 version, as its has 10 less prots on all ranks and no HP5. However, according to the devs, the prots and AA damage will be tripled in effectiveness once you get 4 successful AA, as well as an additional 4-sec duration. So it seems the devs are trying to push people to do the stacking mini-game.

Look everyone the god of war that ties people up in chains and buffs his allies. Does not sound like THE God of War. I don’t think you know what the words God or War means or the fact that an artillery tank is completely useless against gods with magic powers or even how a technological weapon like a artillery tank would be around during an ancient/medieval era. Ares chains felt like shit. An already difficult to land ability comes out slower now and feels even worse. The passive changes look good but in general there's a lot of work that needs to be put into the games polish and feel long before messing with reworking kits that didn't really need reworking to begin with.

Less a rework, more of a minor rework and QOL. It's basically still the same Ares, nothing has exactly changed past having more access to power. It doesn't feel like he'll be any different past just choosing if he wants to slap someone harder, or burn and chain someone harder and more often. Changing his passive to do the same thing with different rules, doesn't do much past being a QOL that was NEEDED because the game doesn't have aura items. His chains are the same, just QoL. His two is basically still an aura, just doesn't give defense now and is a power buff to apply to the team. Once again feels less like a REWORK and more of a minor change or QOL, solely because its basically the same ability that does a different buff instead of Aura defense. His flames are the exact same, and his ult is the same. Only thing different about the ult is some rules changed and it can also stun anyone under him, regardless of being pulled. This isnt a rework, that would imply an entire kit change or fundamental change to the character. He's still Ares God of War in the support role. Just, he's now Ares 2.0 or 1.5 cause he's basically the same damn character, and you want have to really learn anything new about him. Classifying changes this small as a Rework is foolish, overall, its the exact same character with a different coat of paint but maybe a slightly different engine with mostly the same parts.

Tanks add variety to strategy and are super fun to play. Don't get me wrong I love me some full power builds on all classes but it's mostly smooth brains who can't have fun with tanky builds or learn the art of supporting and jebaiting for your team. Plus when you are fed as a tank you literally become superman and it's hilarious.
