@THE1972REAL7 жыл бұрын
Steven Smith started out mainly as a leg-spinner, before he established himself as the premier batsman of Australia. He plays for the New South Wales Blues domestically in Australia. Having shown outstanding promise during his early years, Smith made his international debut in an ODI against the West Indies in 2010. Soon he made his Test debut against Pakistan at Lord's in 2010. A brilliant fielder, who has taken some breathtaking catches in the outfield, Smith first came into prominence after starring for the Blues in the 2009 season when he made four Sheffield Shield hundreds. He was a part of the winning New South Wales side that claimed the inaugural Champions League in 2009. Smith had a good debut Test series against the Pakistanis with a stroke-filled 77 at Leeds, showcasing his all-round potential. He was a part of the Australian squad for the ICC World Cup in 2011. Smith was also a part of the Royal Challengers of Bangalore in the first three editions of the IPL, but was left unsold in the second round of auctions that took place in 2011. Smith has certainly come a long way, his bowling has taken a back seat and batting has become his priority. He is now a mature middle-order batsman, who can bowl a bit. His good run with the bat started when he was brought as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh in the Pune Warriors India team in 2012. He was the second highest run-getter for them with 362 runs at an average of over 40. Smith was named the captain of the Sydney Sixers and he led them to the title in the Big Bash, 2012. After some good performances in the subcontinent, he was called back to the Test team for the tour of India in 2013. He was overlooked for the first two Tests. However, the homework-gate incident provided him a chance in the third Test. He grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he scored 161 runs in four innings with a best of 92. After a successful tour to India, he was named in the Ashes 2013 squad for England. The newly appointed coach Darren Lehmann showed confidence in the young man and slotted him in the No. 6 position for the first Test. He since has not disappointed as he aggregated 345 runs and also got his maiden Test hundred. He ended the series with an average of 51. Even in the 2013-14 Ashes Down Under, Smith batted extremely well as he scored a couple of fine hundreds to help them recover from precarious positions. He then travelled with the side to South Africa to take on Graeme Smith's men and scored a well compiled hundred in the first Test to help Australia win the match in Centurion. Smith then, hit a fine fifty in the second innings of the final Test against Pakistan in UAE and carried some momentum into the home ODI series against South Africa, where he hit two fifties and a hundred in the four matches that he played. He had a sensational 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 769 runs, the most by a player in a Test series involving four matches or fewer matches. He went on to score four hundreds and two fifties in the series. After regular captain Michael Clarke was ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a hamstring injury that he picked up during the first Test, the Australian selectors named Steve Smith as Test captain, ahead of Brad Haddin. Smith had a fantastic 2015 World Cup. He was the leading run-scorer for Australia, amassing 402 runs, which included one hundred and four fifties. His ton came against India in the semi-final encounter and he became the first Australian batsman to score a century in the semi-finals. He is also the only player to hit a fifty in the quarter-final, a hundred in the semi-final and a fifty in the final of the World Cup. A lot of expectations were laid on Steven Smith (the then number one Test batsman) during the 2015 Ashes in England. Australia, however, failed to retain the Ashes as their batsmen were found wanting against the swinging ball. The shuffling whizz failed to step up during crunch situations but managed to notch up a double ton, a century and a fifty to his name. It was almost inevitable that Smith would be Michael Clarke's successor in Test cricket. After clarke's retirement, Smith expectedly took charge and led from the front. His first assignment as a full-time captan was the ODI series against England following the Ashes series. Australia won the series 3-2 and the purists lauded Smith's tactics throughout. Following his successful stint in the ODIs, Smith had an amazing home summer as Australia clean swept West Indies (3-match Test series) following a series win against New Zealand (Both home and away). Smith's consistency in every format forced the Aussie selectors to hand him the T20I reigns just before the start of Icc World T20 2016. A loss against India in a virtual quarter-final meant Australia couldn't go any further in the mega tourney. Smith though emerges to be one of the prominent cricketers going around and is likely to get a long run across all formats of the game. Steve Smith led the Pune team to the final of IPL 2017. >>Smith is only the 3rd Australian batsman to have been dismissed on 199 in Test cricket. (Australia vs West Indies, Kingston 2015). >>Also the 3rd Aussie to record a double ton at Lord's. >>current BBL team - Sydney Sixers >>current IPL team - Pune Supergiants
