Mike Minor from Petticoat Junction (who just passed away) did the vocal and was an accomplished vocalist.

That's coz his father (Don Fedderson) produced the show ... nepotism? nah, I'm sure it was one big, fat coincidence!

It's hard to believe that a sit-com starring Henry Fonda would only last a couple of seasons....he's one of the most prestigious actors of his time....thats like making I Love Lucy a ONE-SEASON show....

I remember the show ... Henry Fonda was stiff and not at all funny ... everyone else was good.

This is the answer to the question what TV show did Ron Howard do between TAGS and Happy Days .

THE SMITH FAMILY was produced by the same production company who were behind "The Millionaire", "My Three Sons",and "Family Affair" that lasted two seasons(1971-1973) on ABC. It was Henry Fonda's second attempt at doing a weekly series almost a decade after his stint on "The Deputy".

I think Henry Fonda continued the unbeaten streak that most movie actors could not expect to mount a successful sitcom or dramatic TV series that would last. I recall James Stewart had a show on after Disney where he played a college professor. I would watch them all now; they are loads better than all the reality-TV crap.

I remember this program premiered the same year (1971) that Shirley Maclaine, Anthony Quinn, and Tony Curtis debuted in their television series on the A.B.C. network. The other two networks also experimented with big name stars: Rock Hudson starred in "McMillan and Wife" on N.B.C., and Glenn Ford and Jimmy Stewart appeared on the C.B.S. network.

I was about 12 when this show premiered and the intro baffled me...it looked like they were TRYING to be boring. The next version made Henry look like Clint Eastwood...somebody definitely went back to the drawing board...

Mr. Zoperxplex...Stewart's 1971 sitcom was on NBC--two years later his show HAWKINS, where he played a lawyer, ran on CBS.

My two fondest memories of the show: 1. The father trades shifts with another cop, then experiences survivor's guilt. 2. The daughter comes into her brother's room to borrow a piece of scotch tape to clean off her black skirt.

Show sucked because the world was ready for All in the Family not a 70s Beaver
