In the 6 years I've carried the shield, my safety has never been actuated 'by itself' without my placing my thumb in there and switching it. It literally is a non-issue..that being said, I like the option of a safety... Shield is still a great CCW option even in the age of the Sig P365...

@@mitchellfactor6671 Congrats! recommendation: don't get add-ons and extensions and all the aftermarket crap, maybe get a good holster...But If you really think things are going to get hot, then carry the original 7 and 8 round mags and maybe a spare 8 round mag...SAVE YOUR MONEY $$$$ FOR AMMO AND TRAINING...IT'S WHAT I WOULD'VE DONE IF I COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN..

These types of pistols are enough to defend yourself. Lot of people doesn't see it like that therefore they want a bigger gun.. doesn't matter what size it is they all will stop anyone. Also I like these better is it also has indicator that pops up showing there's a round in chamber.

I inherited my Shield from my Wife, who didn't like it and switched to a Glock 43. But, I really do like this gun for concealed carry. I upgraded the sights and upgraded the magazines with the Mag guts extensions, for 10-round capacity. I've put all kinds of ammo through it and no problems. There are certainly other newer small pistols I'd love to try, but since my Shield is reliable, and I'd rather spend my spare coin on silver, and other prepping priorities ...

The .40 is basically a 10 mm short so it will punch harder than a 9mm. (All things being equal). However, you will lose one round in capacity. The Shield 40 has a 6+1 and 7+1 capacity. And the 40 will recoil more. Up to you, I wouldn’t want to get shot by either one.👍

Moving the ammunition away from the immediate vicinity when working on a firearm or just handling it is meant to reinforce safe handling. Of course it won’t load itself but on the off chance that you might be working on it and grab a mag to insert in the magazine, not having the ammo or loaded mags close at hand might save you from putting a hole in yourself or your floor or ceiling inadvertently.
