Smith & Wesson Model 48-3 .22 Magnum Revolver - Quick Up-Close Look

My brother Tom Glenn takes a moment to show us his prized Smith & Wesson Model 48-3 .22 Magnum revolver. This is a beautiful pistol with an 8-inch barrel. Tom collects and trades guns, so he hasn't even shot this one, but he lets us take a look, and shares a few thoughts about the hand gun.

Beautiful!!! At one time at the range , Someone fired a S&W .22 Jet Magnum without warning.. We All heard the proverbial "Sound of Silence" after the blast..

22 Mag in a pistol is by far more fun than most people know. Its next to shooting a 357 magnum. People always say what is 22 mag good for in a handgun? I say its good for having fun which I use my guns for.

I have owned 2 of these over the years , both 4 inchers , very accurate when clean, , BUT , when ejecting empties make sure it’s with one positive stroke , and make sure you keep the area under the ejection star clean , clean , if you don’t it will bind up on you after firing 2 or 3 cylinders full , both of these were checked by certified Smith armorers the problem never went away , nice to look at though

Nice .22 mag, I will shortly buy a 48-4 6 inch. I saw it for 435 euros in France, in good condition. Maybe a good one for target shooting and a beautiful one for sure. ^^

The report out of one of those is absolutely wicked !!! I'm basically deaf in my right ear because of one of them. I really have to laugh when I watch movies, and TV shows, where gun fights take place inside, or even in confined spaces. Everyone would be totally deaf afterwards!. I NEVER fire any of my hand guns or hunting rifles without ear protection, even when I was hunting. I always carried a pair of sonic ear valves and use a pair of electronic ear muffs at the shooting range. The .22 mag round was developed primarily for a rifle so when shot out of a short handgun barrel there is still burning powder coming out resulting in a huge fireball in the process. You should try firing one in the evening sometime. :-)

I have often wondered about this! People have these intense defense loads and little compact pistols... I think if you shot that inside your house you'd be more or less deaf forever! Then the police come and want to know what happened, and you can't communicate....

Beautiful revolver. I have a Model 17, .22 LR with the 6" barrel. Actually, most I have seen are in very good condition. Unlike police revolvers, they were not carried that much and range firing does little to cause finish wear (except for a cylinder stop "ring" on the cylinder) But you do not always find them with the box, papers, cleaning tools, etc. and often the original grips have been replaced. As it is a .22 Magnum, it was probably fired less than the .22 LR versions. The ammo cost tends to cut back on the round count.

My friend said that one may as well carry a cap pistol than a .22 magnum. I told my friend to let me gut shoot him with one. He still hasn't taken me up on my offer. LOL

Somebody needs to tell people that MRF is NOT 22 Mag WMR. Try shooting WMR in this gun and see how far you get. MRF is actually WRF, an obsolete cartridge made for rifles about 100 years old. Apparently S&W made a special run of these for folks with the old rifles. These guns are going for a lot of money now, and most sellers, and many internet sites will tell you that these are 22 Mag WMR guns, but it won't work. I have one in cherry condition. I tried to shoot 22 Mag in it, the cases set back and tie up the gun with one cylinder full. Plus WMR fouls the chamber mouth so badly that you can't reload. Recently a friend who worked in a gun shop for many years told me about WRF, I was able to find 1 box, it chambers correctly. People are getting ripped off thinking these are 22 Mag WMR, they are not. They are beautiful collectible guns in many cases, but try finding some Winchester WRF ammo.

Had the same, pistol, is shoot the, 22 wfn , not the 22mag shell , buy a box of 22mag shell, try put in the cylinder, don't fit. , on the barrel, mark , 22wnf. Not 22mag, but you can shoot. 22lr in the cylinder, 22wnf, not 22mag, had the s&w 48, , with the 8 inch bbl, like brand new, trade it off, for a dan Wesson, 44 mag, with a 8inch barrel.
