Thank you so much for making this video. I have this exact issue with my 1965 MGB Smiths speedo. Although my internals were somewhat different, your video gave me the basics to complete the repair. A side note: I had the same issue with removing the internals due to the face and trip reset shaft. I solved it by removing the speedo needle and face first, then the internals dropped right out. Eazy Peezy.

As previous comment. I can’t find part 3. Is it possible to publish the link. Parts 1 and 2 are very informative and well presented

Hi i cant find video 3 of 3.... I have a defender speedo that looks similar, im hoping to either use an old speedo and adjust the miles to suit my tdi or fix the tdi speedo.

Love the in depth footage and details, but I had one question. I'm working on a '74 TR6 and now working on the gauges and wood dash. I got the speedo apart and cleaned, but in the process, broke the needle! I am so hurt, but I know it can be repaired. I saw how you were able to pop off the one in the video. Is this the same process for the TR6? How does it go back on? I'm hoping that the needles are readily available and I don't have to send it off for repair.

Thanks for the kind comments and support. I'm not sure what kind of needle the TR6 has so I can't comment on it. But the Smiths Speedo fitted to the MGB just pops off with a bit of even pressure on both sides and pushes back on. It's held firm with friction. If yours won't come off with moderate pressure, I would think it may have corroded? maybe a cotton bud with a little WD40 may help?

@@Madeinwem it's a Smiths, but looks slightly different from the one in your video. Will give it a shot and see if I can get it removed. Thanks for the response! These videos have definitely eased my mind with regards to taking it apart.

@@kawzx9r_036 Did you find it would come off? I am in the same dilemma with my 1974 TR6 speedo!

@@CorneaPop Yes...I was able to remove it. There happens to be a TR6 shop less than 15 minutes from me and they were able to source me a replacement heater plinth and a speedo needle. I was able to use the fork method to get the original speedo off.

Neil, I love your two videos on the disassembly of the MGB speedo. It is exactly what I was looking for. The problem with my 6144/00 is that the square input shaft is frozen. The speedo worked just fine the last time I used the car, about 4 years ago. It's been in storage and now it doesn't work. Do you have any ideas on what I could do to unfreeze the square female part that is on the back of the speedometer?

@@artwerner5511 Art, it sounds like the input shift has a little corrosion and has seized. You might try disassembling to the point at minute 6:00, and getting some WD40 in the shift, and gently rock the bar magnet from side to side? Regards, neil. PS. If you could send pictures it may help?
