Great band, New Boots & Panties doesn't have a bad song on it. I was lucky enough to tour with The Blockheads a few years back (Dury died a while ago so they had a different singer) and they still ripped it up!

Did you have John Turnball with you on that? My friend played with him in Babylon Zoo of all things. Lovely bloke.

@@pigknickers2975 you know, I can't remember who was there, I just remember nerding out over Normal Watt-Roy, and Phil Jupitus was there too. Babylon Zoo? They had some great songs on that X-Ray Eyes album, they had potential to be more than a one hit wonder.

@@steroberts I would kill to spend a bit of time with Norman Watt-Roy. The album didn't go down very well and they basically got dropped after it. A big shame for all apart from the the singer Jas who is now really rich. When they toured it was Johnnie on rhythm guitar who was just jobbing at the time.

Norman Watt Roy and Charley Charles were a fantastic percussion team. The whole band - The Blockheads - are talented as FFFF. The sax player is playing TWO SAXOPHONES SIMULTANEOUSLY. You read that correctly. Two mouthpieces in his mouth. Playing same notes in each hand. To get that echo effect. Ian Dury songs are a great journey. Humor, wit, fun and gritty. A lot is naughty even in today's era.

Blockheads were fire. Recently departed Wilko Johnson played guitar, and Norman Watt-Roy was the bassist, who in an interview once said about this song "I thought I was getting paid by the note, so I just went for it!"

Norman Watt Roy is a hilarious guy. He has an interview or two out there. He must be fun to jam with.

I used to call WNEW in NYC in 1982 and request this song every night. They'd always put it on right away.

Hi Stoner, Nice reaction to a mostly forgotten band. If you weren't a "Stoner" where you live, your mind would compress!🥶

I was born in a pre 'Irish Pub' Ireland, where you'd have got chucked out if you made a noise, a pub was for drinking and chatting, you went to the village hall if you wanted to play music or dance, no alcohol was allowed, but kids smuggled it in, i saw my first 'Irish Pub' on visiting London England, there was a bicycle in the window, i remember my mom saying they must think we're eejits, it was about the same time they invented 'Celtic' music.
