Good job for using First Alert Precision Detection instead of the Kidde Detect series! You made an amazing upgrade as the new First Alert models are proven worthy for homes.

Nice video man! Nice to see that home has a functional smoke and CO alarm again. I had a pair of first alert plug in CO detectors that eventually they both started chirping even though they had no battery. Then I look in the back and it said "replace alarm if chirping". It wouldn't even test at all. Interesting how some smoke and CO manufacturers program the alarms to purposefully stop functioning after 10 years of use. Some even have a non replaceable battery designed to last only 10 years. Clearly they do this to make sure you replace alarms every 10 years. And to those curious on why its highly recommended that you replace your alarms every 10 years has nothing to do with the radioactive device on ionization alarms. It actually has to do with preventing the case with aging electronics potentially failing especially in a time of an emergency. A lot of these are made rather cheaply especially nowadays so it makes sense. The NFPA just simply wants you to have the highest fire and CO protection possible.

Great video! Very happy to see the new first alert precision detection series get some love by the SER! You installed an actual good unit to replace it with. Just to clarify by experience, modern day Kidde has been really bad lately with false alarm and malfunction reports. The new First Alert Precision Detection series is incredible. I've had great experiences with mine installed in my house.

Should I change my alarms to photoelectric or keep the ionization alarms that I’ve been installing?
@Warp2090Ай бұрын
Depends, they are both good for some situations. That's all I know
@mattdudeАй бұрын
Depends on the location, anywhere near a kitchen or bathroom you should have a photoelectric alarm since ionization alarms are susceptible to shower steam and the invisible smoke from ovens and toasters.

tip: tell them to check the back of the alarm. it has the meanings of the chirps/alarms. (for kidde/ model on the right) 1. 3 long “beeps” followed by “fire! fire”- indication of fire hazard 2. 4 short “beeps” followed by “warning! carbon monoxide!”- indication of CO 3. one “chirp every 60 seconds followed by “low battery” - indication of low battery 4. unit announces “CO previously detected” after operating test button - indication of previous levels of CO exeeding 100 ppm 5. one “chirp” per 30 seconds prior to “replace by” date - indication of an alarm malfunction 6. 2 “chirps” every 30 seconds after “replace by” date - indication that it is time to replace the alarm. *REPLACE IMMEDIATELY! alarm will not detect CO in this condition.* 7. Constant LED (green) - indication that AC power is connected 8. green LED blinks 1 time every second - indication that unit has initiated an alarm 9. green LED blinks 1 time every two seconds - indication that unit is in hush mode 10. green LED blinks 1 time every 60 seconds - indication that unit is powered by battery only 11. green led blinks 1 time every 16 seconds - indication of a previous alarm that is all i have besides an average alarm contains 0.9 microcuries of americium!

It should be worth noting that you should NEVER turn on the power before the batteries are put in. Always activate the alarm with batteries first. Other than that awesome video!
@thomaswilkins816826 күн бұрын
One thing I've never understood about smoke alarms failing after 10 years is that the main argument for why smoke alarms should be replaced is that dust builds up in the sensor and affects the detectors ability to detect smoke and even cause false alarms but if you vacuum out your detector and change the battery every year that should minimize false alarms and make the detector last longer if a detector works properly after 10 years of being maintained and tested with real smoke then I see no issue with using it. If someone could give me additional insight that would be appreciated I understand that smoke alarms are made with the cheapest components possible to keep the cost down and so that they can be mass produced easier and for that a 10 year lifespan isn't bad I just don't like it when companies force you to buy a new detector by putting in sealed lithium batteries that prematurely fail.

So recently, my nest protect carbon monoxide sensor failed, and i got it on 2011. And when i slaughtered it with a sledge hammer. The carbon monoxide sensor had a weird black liquid all over it. It it wasant the sledge hammer that did it... Because other people on Facebook said this same issue was happening too, and these people also got it in 2011, bur im curious what this black liquid is.
