Smoked/Tinted Effect Headlights *ST150*

If there's one thing I think that's always made these cars look cheap and a bit dated its the headlights - so in this video I split the lights open, removed all the chrome plastics, sanded them down, scuffed up the grey parts of the housing and painted them gloss black.

Yeah, I'm late to the party, just one info: PY21W (amber bulbs) always have BAU15s socket (with offset pins), P21W (the white bulbs behind amber glass) have BA15s socket (straight pins). So you got the correct bulbs, but you'll always have to file down one of the pins as the lamp was constructed for using white bulbs/straight pins. Btw: for anyone just wanting to get rid of the amber "glass": you can get it out without splitting the lights. Just push them out through the hole for the blinker bulbs, and then cut/break the glass through the hole for the H4-bulb using some strong (garden)-scissors until the smaller pieces fit through the H4-socket. Did this last week and fit some philips silvervision after, looks great ;-)

Looks really good! I wouldn't of painted inside where the sidelight bulb sits cos it won't shine as bright, but you've done a good job 👌🏾

Thanks man. Yeah I suddenly thought about a afer I’d sprayed them 🤦🏻‍♂️ tbf the sides don’t look too bad and once I change them for LEDs they should be fine 🤞🏻

@@MendItModIt yeah they will be fine, when I got my st they were done exactly like yours and with leds looked fine. With the reflectors silver obviously they shined brighter but it’s no biggy

​@@shelg6082quick question, can you spray the reflector if using leds? As I thought it was an mot failure when using leds in a reflector. Recently bought an ST and am looking at putting leds in mine, but obviously dont want it to fail the mot. TIA.

Good mod to do man but yes definitely need to get them polished up as the damaged lens lets them down. I can not wait for my custom full LED Projector black headlights to arrive in April 😁

Thanks bro 👍🏻 I’ve got some pads on the way for the angle grinder so hopefully they’ll come up nice. Am I right in thinking you used autoglym super resin polish on yours? I think I’ve got some of that kicking around 🤔 see I wanted to do projectors but I wouldn’t have a clue what size to order or anything. Are you getting the whole units or the bits to do it yourself?

@@MendItModIt oh yeh once you've wetsanded and polished will look awesome. I used mequires cutting counpiund first as more aggressive then finished with super resin polish. But I should of used another less aggressive sand paper as still got scratches. But knew I was getting new ones. I am using a company called LK2 Lights who specialise in headlights, they do loads of mk7 Fiestas and can do all sorts but I said I want their LED bi xenon Projected in my Mk6 and make the inside all black. Just got to supply them with new headlights or send yours. All I am saying is I don't want to admit how much they are costing me haha

I thought xenon retrofits had to have self levelling to be legal but I think it’s a bit of a grey area 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe install a strands led bar behind the grill in front of the radiator. In the strands led bars you have like an amber daylight running light.

Great video really helped me just split my headlights was a bit worried about putting them in the oven but it worked a treat!! I waited till my wife had gone out though 😂😂😂
