Everything about this scene is so damn iconic, from the song to the simple bits of acting, the driving, and of course the final stare and smile at the camera. It didn't take any fancy explosions or cuts, just simple, to the point, and perfect.

Maybe you can help or verify: I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out. Wasn't there another scene in the movie (the scene I'm referring took place during daylight) where he was driving, then made a stop...and then looking like he flashed his grin to the people actually watching the movie? For some reason, that scene stands out (if it really happened). Thx. in advance for any comments.

I grew up off the curvy road at the beginning of this clip where it was filmed. We were told when filming was happening and could show up to observe. I have photos my father took, but they are in slides - keep thinking one day I'll get them transferred to digital. Anyway it's Buford Dam Road in Cumming, Georgia. It's a road that separates the man-made Lake Lanier reservoir on one side and the Chattahoochee River on the other side it was formed from. They did a lot of filming on the new at the time Georgia 400 highway as well. I had friends on the south side where the ending happened (and beginning started) at what used to be called Lakewood Fairgrounds (now an outdoor amphitheater). What memories as a kid!

I heard or read somewhere that in the second movie, the fairgrounds scene when Mel Tillis was trying to say "We're closed", that scene was shot there as well. That was their way of demolishing it in real life because they were making plans to demolish it anyway to make room for something else. I wonder if that's true.

Second best film of 1977 next to Star Wars. And like Star Wars the studio didn't want to originally make it? because it was a concept by a former stuntman in Hal Needham, who wanted to start directing movies. At a cost of only 4 million dollars the massive global box office earnings of $300 million dollars forever made Hal Needham along with Burt Reynolds (his friend) a substantially successful first time director who proved all the doubters absolutely wrong about him and his movie!

Almost everyone in this movie are gone now and it's hard to believe the film is 43 years old. I remember seeing it at our local movie theater, which at the time, we had only ONE theater and would show that one movie for a couple weeks at a time until the next one would come in and be shown for another couple weeks. Today that same town has numerous movie theaters showing 20 films at a time. I'd give anything to be able to go back to that earlier time when things were so much simpler.

This is way embarassing...Ah was flying thru town and the cop caught me. I flew on the bridge and zoomed in and out of traffic. When he was behind me, I acted like I was going straight .. and at the last sec I threw the chevy into the right lane and exited. He flew past me straight and I did a Bandit and hid behind an alleyway like he did here. I waited till he did a 360 off the bridge and passed me by and went back in the other direction. Movies...ewwww...they give you ideas. At least ah didn't get a ticket. Not bad for a girl...huh? lol
