Hi friends! So in today's video we are talking about a youtuber who has gotten a lot of attention recently for her content. If there is one thing to take away from this video, I really hope that its Celebrity or youtuber drama and mental health just don't mix. Trying to psychologically evaluate people who you've never met is a problem and I hope Shallon is listening to what people are saying and can at least acknowledge the issues people are bringing up. I love you guys so much and I will see you in the next one!

I hated that when she talked about one celeb (don’t remember his name) coming out as poly. As someone who’s been there, there’s a *reason* why no one asks about that: because people need to come out when they feel ready, whether it’s to do with their sexuality or their mental health. Asking someone to come out before they’re ready is practically forcing them to come out, possibly when they aren’t ready, which is so shitty!

The thing about Selena Gomez, is as a fellow lupus patient is even if she had been on her best behavior her whole life, never smoked, never drank, never experimented with drugs (not saying she did all those things.) she has lupus, she would have needed either a liver transplant or a kidney transplant regardless. I have lupus and even if I never drank or tried drugs or smoked, I would need one at one point in my life because that’s kinda how lupus works, no matter how well you behave, lupus will attack your body.sure things like not drinking, smoking and drug use helps but it won’t stop how lupus inherently works. Also bipolar is very common in lupus patients.
@abigailxmary
@abigailxmary 4 жыл бұрын
as someone who also has lupus, you’re spreading false info about the disease. Not all lupus patients will need an organ transplant, it depends on the type of lupus you have and what complications you have. It’s individual to each patients disease activity and can’t be generalised in such a way.
@leakenny1125
@leakenny1125 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe she didn't mean everyone with Lupus needs an organ transplant, but simply that whether or not Selena had done those things would have had little impact, as she probably already had a severe enough case to need the transplant.
@leakenny1125
@leakenny1125 3 жыл бұрын
It's the same with a Kidney disease my family has, my dad and three of his siblings all have the disease. However, they all needed transplants while he is doing fine with simple tablets. Whether or not my aunts and uncle drank/smoke didn't really affect whether or not they were going to need the transplant, as their case was already really severe.

As a person with a degree in psychology, I watch her videos and cringe, she's SO wrong about so many things. She once said that psychopaths are always born, not made, and that it's not a personality disorder.... Which, if you don't know, you can't even be diagnosed as a sociopath until you're 18 and it IS 100% a personality disorder. she just says things that aren't true all the time just to prove her point Edit: I'm not necessarily saying someone can't be born as a sociopath. I'm just saying it's inaccurate to say they're always born like that. There are studies that suggest parenting style predicts antisocial personality disorder more than genetics. However, psychology is evolving quickly and anything I say could eventually be wrong. That doesn't make saying uneducated things to a large audience right.

@MsYogaGrrrl With sociopaths, it's technicalyl called conduct disorder until they're above a certain age! But either way, you're 100% right that some people have personality disorders at a young age. What I meant (and may have conveyed poorly) is that antisocial personality disorder is generally not just born, there's a lot of studies that suggest that one is born with traits of antisocial personality disorder (conduct disorder when it's born) but that trauma and inconsistent punishment are what solidify these traits. Of course, it's all research at this point so no one is entirely sure what causes it. For her to say something so certainly however that antisocial personality disorder isn't a personality disorder and that you're born with it... That's what I have a problem with. I hope that clears up what I meant!

It was an interview and he has a book about his struggle with mental health it’s called Shook Ones: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me. I haven’t read it, however he advocates for mental health and seeking therapy and discusses his journey regularly so when he interviews someone it often comes up and if they have a fairly public story he asks questions for clarity and to broaden his understanding. I can't say it "infuriates" but it saddens me so much, it's pathetic! I honestly think it's because people find these words trendy or fashionable stuff to decorate their sentences with, or simple to show they're smart, or to seem "woke". With media and pop culture popularizing the words (Shane Dawson's awful documentary on Jake Paul is one. Don't come for me, I find so many things - including the therapist - problematic.). People use terms they don't know the meaning of; they do "assessments" based on KZbin videos and Google searches they make. And it's hard to educate these people a lot of times, because they've already fixed it in their head. They've already made up their mind. Stigmatising mental illnesses is a very bad culture, hope people understand that. Terms used to describe mental health conditions are not fashionable, are not trendy. There are real people who are suffering from them, there are people whose lives are affected and those who are around them are suffering too. Have some empathy, and think about it for a second. Its not hard to make a change. And anyone without formal education and training is in no place to diagnose anybody. You should understand that *every single person is different and unique* We're all our own person. We, humans are VERY diverse and one thing that we can apply for one, might not be applicable for others. Although we have theories, concepts and principles, they're not applicable for all. We, mental health professionals, know how to apply that, a person without a formal education in thd field doesn't know that. Most people we talk about assume things based on stereotypes like: Depression is the "big sad" and depressed people have dark circles, or seem sad. Schizophrenics are violent. People with OCD constantly organise their stuff and clean their room. Anxiety is just being nervous. I read a case file of a patient with extreme OCD. He hadn't brushed his teeth in 3 months, hadn't showered in a week, but he washes his cloths every hour. That's how extreme things can be! (There are MORE upsetting details, I don't wanna go into.) And after seeing all these, hearing a person simply saying "OMG I'm soooo OCD sksksks" is disgusting. Mental health stereotypes are not always true! They're false MOST of the time. Sometimes, you might think a disorder is something else. A lot of people think everyone who goes through trauma goes through PTSD. This is completely false. They assume a person to be having PTSD based on their body shaking and shivering while recalling the events, while it could be trauma, not PTSD.

Thought I would add that about a comment she made about highschool. I'm sorry I don't know what video it was, but she was talking about popularity, along the lines of "I knew I wanted to be prom queen, so I climbed my way up the social ladder and became friends with the popular kids." Now this statement was used to explain how she realized she had issues with herself even when she changed social groups. But come on, she's a woman in her approaching 40s and mentions her achievement of being prom queen? She uses people for her own status (very prevalent in how she pretends to have known celebs like Harry Styles and such). It's funny to me because she makes some of her own terms. She describes Rihanna as a "warm blooded" creature, meaning Rihanna doesn't need to seek validation from her environment or followers, she creates her own warmth and can be her own person. Shallon describes Kylie as the opposite, a "cold blooded" animal who is the opposite; seeks validation from others to feel important. I think Shallon likes to think she's a warm blooded animal like Rihanna, but she's actually a cold blooded animal lmao. Her attitude of "I don't give a care about your opinion, cause I'm always right" is just a front to continue her hateful spread of people and lies. Her being a cold blooded animal pairs well with the statement above, and how she uses young men to "molds" them when she dates them -_-

@@chadwick4057 That could be but I am almost certain its personal. Personal without her having a personal relationship with Selena but also it connected to E S M G and from research has come up with something personal from a long time ago that either Shallon started that blog and now has others running it for her or she knows who runs that blog and decided to join in on the journey to ruin Selena's reputation because after several years . weren't getting the job done. They have been consistently slandering her for 7 years now and the blog was specifically made to drag Selena Gomez E - Exposing S- Selena M- Marie G- Gomez. Pretty sick right...who makes a blog targeting one celebrity but not only that ..for SEVEN YEARS. SEVEN FREAKIN YEARS. Now they have integrated videos in between bashing her as it was way to evident what they were doing but when you research and go back you can find when the first started where they actually posted that ..This Blog was made to drag Selena Gomez and bring light to the fact that she is not as innocent or an angel (something like that) and she needs to be held accountable. I was WTF...ya know..Who the hell does that. I got directed there after one of Shallons videos, bad comments , horrible comments about Selena and they directed me there. So I had never read that intro from 2013. So I was it just seemed so weird that someone would hate someone like they do , and like who else does , Shallon, that they don't know. So I thought right away Shallon has to be connected to this. Some way some how. They manipulate just like she does meaning there fandom i guess you would say. But even more calculating and its like they have this stand by fandom that if you cross them , they all at once, come after your ass. Its really a lot more sick and calculating then people realize what's going on. Takes a lot to get to the bottom of it but I am getting there. I know they think they scared me away because they did more then come after me, after I hit a nerve when I finally kinda used certain words to indicate I knew something. Bam that was all it took but I was prepared because I needed to do that to see if what I had found was right and well their reaction said it all. Its on the blog , "The Real Reason Why Selena Disappeared After Rare(which she didn't) . I don't know if they finally were forced to take down what they did to me but if you go there and see some very disgusting comments you will know what I am talking about and mind you they deleted some things that were real bad that they did , and made sure that they edited and kept up things I said to make it look like I provoked and caused the whole thing but ...I have snap shots of every single thing that happened with time stamps so I don't give a rats ass what it looks like to anyone . I have everything. They are pissed and annoyed because I won't go away and I am not going to because its Bullying. Kids are killing themselves at ages 7 , 8 etc from being bullied at school and here grown ass adults are doing it and when I ask , what is your purpose of doing this or what do you want from this woman, at the end of the day what do you want from her.....never get an answer but if you read that blog closely, you will get your answer. Its passive but what they want from her is there in that blog.

One of my biggest pet peeves in the "celebrity/stan world" is that people suddenly think that they are the celebrities best friend or family member and get to psychoanalyse them. Wow okay, I had NO idea about this side of her. I found out about her yesterday on twitter because a clip of her being openly racist against Korean idols was going around, and she consistently complained and mocked their looks, not only emasculating them by calling them 'women' and saying "I honestly don't know what to call them, are they women or men?" and "Here are the BTS girls" just because they dye their hair and are actually stylish, but also going the extra mile by saying that she doesn't understand why "asian men cannot look asian and have brown hair and brown eyes", "honestly how can you guys tell them apart?", and they have to "get shitty highlights in their hair and wear makeup", because according to ms. Lester what makes asian men 'look asian' is the color of their hair and their eyes and they should absolutely not change their looks even if they want to, because that is not what, in her eyes, an asian man looks like. She's a disgusting racist, and hearing all about her attitude towards mental health and the blatant abuse and stigma that she perpetuates on a public platform makes me wanna vomit.

Yessssss exactly. Honestly Kpop male idols aren’t my cup of tea aesthetic-wise but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to call them women when they’re clearly men. It’s fine to have your own opinion on whether someone’s “attractive” or not, everyone has their own preference and what they like. But it’s just blatantly rude and disrespectful to say that someone is the opposite gender of what they are just because you don’t find them attractive or like them

Thank you for your insights on this! A Shallon fan is a "Shalloner" and part of the "Shallontaurage". I've been watching Shallon for a while. I did like her a lot because she's funny and most of the time her videos really hold my attention. Also, it should be noted that she didn't just work for Star magazine, she was the deputy editor. She also was instrumental in helping raise a significant amount of money for a single mom to move into housing, and she did so through her platform and donating funds from her viewers. I just want to paint the whole picture. She also has a fun podcast called Girl on Top where she mostly gives relationship advice and doesn't mention celebrities too much. Lately, I haven't found her very charming. She tries to push her merch, which is not cute, she has an unhealthy obsession with hating Selena Gomez for someone her age, and she's become a lot more smug. She constantly boasts that men in their 20s go after her. Darling. Please. Maybe because men her age and older find her unbearable and younger men don't have as much experience. I'm still subscribed and I'll catch a video every now and then, but I'm a little over her.

B) she’s very charismatic, she’s very persuasive, and very engaging.. the best thing you can ever do for yourself if you’re presented information in the same way as her where you’re intrigued and excited and want to hear more of what they have to say.. is to try verifying some of their claims. If you can and find they’re credible, great you found someone like Smokey glo, who’s not only knowledgeable but is willing to admit when she’s wrong which is the most important trait a content creator can have. If you’re not finding they are credible, that’s okay, it just means take what they say with a grain of salt from then on. If you continue to fall prey to persuasively harmful content, then it might be a problem. But right now it’s not a problem and you have no reason to be mad at yourself. I've been watching Shallon for almost a year at this point, but never really watched her critically (my boyfriend did and HATED her the entire time haha, but I just wanted the gossip). Here are some of my thoughts on this situation. 1. I always found some of the things she said questionable, but because she presented herself as a hardcore feminist and as a rational person, I kinda just dismissed it as "ah that's just Shallon's personality, she's quirky, whatever. She also always presented herself as an ally/super anti racist, but there's stuff coming out that shows that was just a façade (probably to "trick" people like myself lol... 2. She had this whole thing this winter where she was fundraising to "pull a woman out of poverty" and the whole thing reeked of white saviorism/self righteous humanitarianism, and this view was supported when people called her racist on her Instagram posts and she responded with "I've dated black men" and "I pulled a black woman out of poverty." Yikes. 3. She switches back and forth between using degrading and harmful language surrounding specific mental illnesses (BPD, bipolar) and being sympathetic towards them, which is really harmful for people with mental illnesses who feel stigmatized and are watching her to learn how to act normal when they can't afford therapy (personal experience). I don't really know why I was so captivated by her for such a long time, now feel like a weenie for missing all of these red flags, and overall, the racist stuff that just cannot be justified or explained, as well as everyone else putting their perspectives into the mix is serious grounds for cancellation. Although I think her career will be fine because she knew this was coming, as she's mentioned that she foresaw it in multiple videos, and has also said that she just won't address it and wait for the news cycle to pass her over. I think enough people like her enough to overlook these serious issues of hers, so it's just important that she's held accountable in the long run, but again, I don't think that will realistically happen. I'm def done with her tho!

It's scary how manipulative she is. Her always being like "Come on guys/I mean we ALL know this is the guys/It's so OBVIOUS/I mean LOOK at her/how can you NOT see that?" She makes you feel stupid if you don't come to the same conclusion and you WANT to agree with her just for the sake of agreeing with her since she seems so convinced and you clicked her video because you WANT her input so why wouldn't you take her opinion as yours? I used to watch a lot of her videos and agree with her on almost EVERY video. How could she possibly be a bad person? She always does these live streams where you can donate for this homeless woman she helps, she cannot be bad. And then I made a cut. Psychology textbooks do actually use some celebrities as examples. HOWEVER, in all cases, these are celebrities' experiences that the celebrities themselves shared willingly and are not speculations of any kind. They are used ALONGSIDE actual case studies to explain the disorder better to students and keep students' attention to the text. For instance, if both Selena Gomez and Britney Spears came out and said that they were diagnosed with bipolar disorder and explained their symptoms to the public, then a psychology textbook could use these two examples to explain how bipolar disorder can exist with different symptoms in different people while also keeping the attention of the student. However, it is only used as an example to explain and not as evidence, they would still include actual case studies to back up everything. I'm also pretty sure it would be illegal (would also be considered extremely immoral) to speculate about people's mental health on published media, you need the consent of the patient even when you're not using their name to publish about their experiences. Real psychologists and health professionals would probably be mortified by what she is doing.

D’Angelo’s video was incredible and it made me so sad to see him cry because her words hit him in such a personal way. She’s awful, I’ve been hate watching Shallon’s videos for like a year now and I wish I had just made a video about her. I’m glad people like you, D’Angelo and Angelika are bringing awareness to how sinister and problematic she is. She claims as a FACT that Selena Gomez is a heroin addict and has made so many videos about her smiling as she bashes her, and even if she does have a problem with drugs (which I believe she did in the past but that’s not the point) it is not up to Shallon, a 35 year old woman to be giggling and trashing her like a teenage bully. I am an addict in recovery who has been battling addiction and mental health issues for 15 years. It made me so upset that she bashed celebrity addicts if they don’t “tell their fans that they’re addicts”. The claims she makes are grounds for a lawsuit, it is pure slander and harassment at this point. She literally said Selena will likely overdose or go into kidney failure. So I’ve been a fan of Selena for years and I think what she’s referred to as “addiction” is Selena going to rehab for her mental health multiple times throughout the years. I’m also someone who’s has had the same organ transplant as Selena Gomez, I know how much you’re allowed to drink with a transplant ( or at least what my doctors have told me) you’re allowed to drink, you’re allowed to drink wine once a night if you want to! You just can’t go crazy with it or take your meds with alcohol. I can’t watch it listen to Shallon because that would be really triggering for me as someone who’s had a transplant and has had mental health issues from that experience. It boils my blood to hear someone talk about Selena’s health and transplant the way she does when in reality she knows jack shit.

Thank you so much for sharing. I always see people pointing fingers, saying Selena is ungrateful to Francia because she was spotted with a drink. The thing is I really think Shallon has had quite a big impact, because I see people saying things about Selena (eg. her being a supposed "drug addict") that I have never heard before Shallon said them. I know that Selena is a big celebrity but she can see what people comment on her posts... Even if she did struggle with addiction, it's not really anybody's business first of all and second of all nobody should be demonizing her for that. From my perspective as someone who has had depression, feeling like you're ungrateful, undeserved of what you have, and a burden on others are literally the worst things to feel. People say these things in such a petty tone and it's like they don't even think about how their words may affect people... it literally encourages bullying and it's disgusting. I'm glad youtubers are finally starting to talk about it because it used to make me so sad watching what she would say, and the impact it would have, and she just went on for a really long time unchecked...

I find it super lame how she claims to be sooooooo successful and soooooo amazing but she's still sitting there 24/7 in that itty bitty apartment talking shit about Taylor Swift and the weekend. It's bothersome.

Is someone gonna talk about how she said she cursed a dude at the age of 13 for him to get cancer twice AND FOR HIS BROTHER TO COMMIT SUICIDE?!? She literally claimed she cursed someone’s brother to kill themselves. And secondly she claimed Beyoncé is retarded... I found her like 6-12 months ago I might actually stroke out if I try and find the videos.

She cursed him because he said she was a dog or something like that. Imagine thinking you're responsible for someone's struggles because he called you names at 13. And feeling proud about it! Wicked.

mccsamm Shallon also did. She claimed her dad or so met her and took a way out of context remark to asses Beyoncé.

Nothing_Too_Sea Here her two points on calling Beyoncé retarded were because she needed help with a fancy restaurant menu and she was confused by a Prada bag used to give a chest set. She apparently really wanted a Prada chest board. I do recall shallon was also on Wendy Williams, so no shock there.

Mila Cruz It honestly bothers me to this day: she sits there sipped her wine, with the most shit eating grin, and said all that gross shit. Just imagine thinking you’re so powerful you caused someone’s BROTHER to take their own life because they called you a name at 13... she went beyond the getting cancer twice, no she also did that. Shallon is human trash.

Me too. I wasn’t having a hard time, but I find psychology & sociology fascinating. I was a fan up until recently bc of her toxicity towards the Weekend, Selena, Pete Davidson, Taylor Swift and obsession over the Bieber’s was getting weirder and really finger pointing. Last year was pretty good about figuring out how to handle many personal relationships, issues and building self respect. Bless her heart. She should really just focus on that and divert away from using celebrities as examples. It would do her a whole lot of good. Good luck to shallon Lester.

Thank you so much for sharing how you feel about Lester. I had watched her videos for a couple of weeks and I was astonished at her behavior. I couldn’t stomach her, she really pissed me off. I feel bad for her followers who are are young and unable to realize how delusional she is. I love how passionate you are, you truly care and it’s wonderful. 💗

I liked her advice somewhat on loving yourself... but sometimes I felt she was racist by staying stuff like “ pulling the race card” or backing up people who obviously were not the best in character. I chose to unsubscribe and unfollow. I can’t support someone who is problematic with everything I know now.

With examples in the public eye like “Dr.” Phil, “Dr.” Laura Schlesinger and “Dr.” Drew, many people feel they can do the same. Quackery and bad advice is rampant on social media and other media and has been a source of entertainment for years. Oprah made many of these quacks household names. The entertainment industry has trained us to love watching a train wreck. It’s disgusting. I have to say tho, all of these celebrities talking about their mental issues is kind of shallow. They can afford the best treatment and often use it as an excuse for poor behavior. They are applauded for honesty while real people living regular lives trying to cope while suffering from mental illness are still often stigmatized and treated poorly. Just turn these idiots off. The act of not giving them airtime will take away their power.

I love this comment, it's so true. It bothers me so much when celebs are praised for getting treatment for addictions or mental health, meanwhile "regular folk" have to jump through hoops to go to rehab, get in a psych program, sometimes see a therapist. And then, when they do, half the time the doctor does absolutely nothing and they get slammed with a massive bill in the mail. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy if celebs get help for their problems, but the system is fucked up. I'm sure if anyone had their resources they would use them too, it's not really a brave thing to use them as much as it is something to be grateful for.
@sftraub

Xo Xo I absolutely agree. The average person in America has to overcome a crazy healthcare system, limited resources and the stigma of mental illness often times. Celebrities get a pass on the stigma but regular people lose out on jobs, are treated differently and fear the stigma so much they will forego the help they need.
