The easiest way would be to just demonetize any videos that are primarily about the kids. Then the parents would no longer have an incentive to have the kids in all of their videos. They can still talk about their day or parenting or their home or whatever, but the kids don't need to be in the video for that.

Not to be that guy, but you really shouldn't be feeding anybody's children unless you know for an absolute fact that they have no food allergies or medical conditions that create dietary restrictions. @@rpggal We have all of that paperwork submitted at the beginning of the year. Many daycare programs actually supply snacks on a daily basis to all kids, but because of dietary restrictions we do ask that the parents supply lunch and multiple snacks. What parents don’t realize is, those pictures or videos are on the internet FOREVER and I believe that for any child’s pics/videos to be posted, they should have a say in it and if they’re too young to consent to it, the parents shouldn’t post. A child doesn’t have the mental/emotional capabilities to understand potential consequences of how they will feel about it in the future. Once it’s out there, it’s there.

Exactly, Ruby is acting like she had not forgotten her lunch atleast a few times in her childhood. She expects a FIVE Y/O to pack her lunch? NO! When I was five and I was going to school, my Mom would pack my lunch. The only responsibility I had regarding my lunch was remembering to put it in my bag. My responsibilities in general was just making sure I had all my school supplies, homework, etc. in my backpack. If I forgot my lunch, my Mom, who would be babysitting, (that was her job since she didnt have a permit to work so she could help the family with finance situations) would get a call from the school saying, Oh hey, your child forgot her lunch, could you come and get it for her? and she would ask the parent to take their child on a Uber or Lift or something and she would get my lunch and give it to the main office. Ruby is INSANE for not giving Eve her lunch like wth?! She probably isn't even working and she cant BOTHER to get Eve her lunch? 5 y/o's haven't grown a stable tolerance system to go a lunch without food, heck even the rest of the day! And Ruby even has the NERVE to post something that should be PERSONAL on to a public social platform where people from ALL AGES can see a bunch of different videos. But the plus side is that an authority team can investigate not only that video, but many more.

The only good thing I’ll say about family vloggers is that it gives abusers the chance to expose themselves. For example Daddy of five, who had soul custody of his two kids and got them taken away and put in better care after the controversy with him went down. Same with the Stauffers. Now that they’ve abandoned their child people have gone back and found footage of them not treating that little boy properly and they have had sponsorships taken away because of it. In the long run I feel terrible for the kids, because in the end they don’t have a choice. But if the parents are stupid enough to broadcast their lives, including their abusive/ toxic behavior then at least there’s a chance that the kids in extreme situations might be saved sooner.
@graceb9477

@rpggal
@rpggal 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah but for every parent that gets "exposed" there are dozens more that are incentivized to exploit and abuse their kids for money. There's plenty of shitty parents out there that, were it not for KZbin providing monetary incentives to exploit and abuse their kids, would probably have just been normal, shitty, do-nothing parents that don't bother to raise their kids because they only care about themselves. But now instead of being normal, shitty, do-nothing parents KZbin pays them money to abuse and exploit their kids in ways they most likely wouldn't have done before. It's not really a silver lining that the system manages to weed out one or two of every 50 or more monsters it creates.

The depends on the family vlogging channel.
@bannokelly18
@bannokelly18 4 жыл бұрын
Grace B I’m referring to the severe cases where the parents would be abusing their kids either way. Like Daddy of five clearly wasn’t treating his kids properly off camera if he thought THAT behavior wasn’t considered acceptable for a viewing audience. A lot of the abuse claims about the Stauffers don’t even come from their KZbin channel content, rather what she posts on other forms of social media. I certainly don’t think family vlogging is a positive, and I’m not advocating for it. But if there is any silver lining it would be that it exposes the absolute worst people and what they do behind closed doors.

Exactly what I think! I have met so many people throughout my life that don't like being parents, and they even have more than one child. It's sad for the kids. They're mostly the reason why I take so much care into remaining childless. I don't like children and I don't like motherhood. Having a child would be devastating to me and mostly to the child, who would of course be innocent. I know I wouldn't mistreat a child, let alone my own, but I just wouldn't be happy, and therefore my child wouldn't be either. Children know when they are wanted and loved. Planned and desired motherhoods raise happier childhoods.

When these kids end up needing therapists as a result of the trauma inflicted by their parents, bet the parents won’t be funding that either; despite the large sum of money they have made off of their children. M Redmond no, she was responsible for making and bringing it. As a 5 year old that’s not too hard of a task but to remember doing it in (probably) the hustle and bustle of getting ready in the morning can slip your mind as a child that small. It can be good to ‘teach them a lesson’ by refusing to bring a replacement but Ruby said in the actual clip that it has happened multiple times so clearly she needs to understand that maybe her child isn’t quite ready yet to handle her lunch in the mornings. Coupled with the fact that Ruby is a stay at home mom is no excuse to purposely leave your child hungry. It’s only going to impact the poor child negatively

Carleigh Hessian there are ways to punish a five-year-old. Taking away their basic needs-a roof over their heads, food and water, etc-is unnecessary and abusive. You can argue it was the 5 yo’s responsibility to pack her lunch. I’d argue the 5 yo can be taught to help but it is never her responsibility to provide food for herself/make sure she’s fed. It’s the parent’s. Always. Just as it is the parent’s responsibility to always provide shelter. You don’t have to take away basic needs from a five-year-old in order to teach accountability.

M Redmond she took away the chance for the child to eat, she had a chance to supply the child food. Not eating a meal can mess with a child’s concentration in class, coming from someone who didn’t eat lunches due to insufficient money/mental illness, it’s fucked up to do that to a FIVE YEAR OLD.

She’s making her children fear her and only see her as authority rather than a mommy. The fact that she doesn’t let her kids call it “their house or their room” they have to say it’s “moms room” because she owns it. Listen, I get it, but this is part of raising kids. You’re a family. You provide for them and teach them responsibility, love and independence through that. It just seems like she treats the family as a business. Makes me sad cause those kids are so sweet, but the more the drama comes out I’m now realizing how timid some of them are in the videos. Breaks my heart.

This sounds very very old school Mormon or some kind of “18 kids and counting crap” ... My friend left her home and the religion for a very long time . As nothing was her own growing up . No doors as a teenager, No privacy . And complete abusive control . She now has a family with grown adult children . But has been back in the church for 20 plus years . And definitely had to be mindful not to bring that old school ways of control back in her life . I know a few other YT moms that are obviously Mormon but DO NOT USE THIS OLD SCHOOL WAYS . Of nothing is yours it’s all mine and I control all of you . So this 8 passenger lady is definitely abusing her role of parent . And I would bet money she is of old school Mormon ways . So sad

She still has many chances to " teach her responsibility", as a mother it's her literal job to care and provide for her child.

I think that the fact that the whole family is so happy and loving is what sets this ideal for other family vloggers to aspire to, but that's the thing: We're not all wealthy, talented musicians who make up a family of performers consenting to be in the entertainment industry. (1) I love when Hannah goes off on family vloggers and bad parents (2) I HATE when parents want to toss their kids out the moment they turn 18. It’s insane to me. Don’t you want your kids to be able to focus on college? Don’t you want your kids to have the opportunity to save up their money? I just think parents should help their kids as much as they can. I understand sometimes parents can’t afford to help their kids much and a kid may have to work full time once they’re out of high school (maybe sooner) but if you can help your kid financially and let them stay in your home, you should imo. Parenting doesn’t stop once they turn 18. You’re their parent for the rest of your life.

Also, I think 18 is way too young for so many things. You're not even fully out of your teens yet. Your body and brain are still developing. You shouldn't *have to* fend for yourself so young. Parents should be reasonable, like if they're struggle financially they can tell their kid that they will keep supporting the basic needs (food, shelter, health) but they can start earning their own money for their clothes, outings, luxuries, etc. Or give them some responsabilities that aren't predatory, like "you will now pay for your phone bill". If parents are in a good financial place, encourage the kids to start earning their own money for their own expenses. Needless to say, support them if they're furthering their education. Honestly if you raised your kids right, they will want to start supporting themselves as soon as they can and may even want to voluntarily contribute to the household, then it's up to the parents not to be predatory.

@M Redmond she said the paper was centered on privacy rights which should be objectively viewed because your right to privacy is immediately exercised the second you are born. She's not proposing the 'right way to parent' as you're suggesting, which is subjective.

It is all good and well that the mother asks the 18 year old if she may post certain videos, however it is inconceivable to imagine the mother asking the other younger children, especially the 6 & 8 year olds, for their consent. This is especially so if you take into account the fact that consent should be informed, & children younger than 10 often lack the capacity to give this informed consent. Nobody is accusing them of "abuse" per se, although it is questionable. However they are violating their kids rights to privacy, something that can't be tossed aside because "children are under their parents control until they are 18". There are still laws that exist. Also, her concern is not an interrogation of children's rights of this family alone, but for the children of all family vloggers in general. It is a cause for concern.

@M Redmond okay firstly, let's just breathe lol. I think you're misunderstanding who I'm referring to. I'm talking about the person who mentioned writing a paper on privacy laws & youtube IN GENERAL (the comment that started this whole debate) and not the youtuber who made this video. Yes, I realized that the child was 15 and not 18, but that doesn't negate my point, it actually strengthens my argument because he's actually still a minor then, & like I said it's not easy to obtain informed consent from a minor. Also, there seems to be confusion about which people privacy laws are supposed to protect children against. We're not talking about children wanting privacy in the home or from their parents, we're talking about minors who are deserving of privacy from the rest of the world (actually privacy laws), specifically in very personal situations - which is not what's being done on youtube it would seem. You ask how parents are supposed to protect their kids if the kids keep their lives hidden from them, which (aside from the fact that that's not the kind of privacy we're talking about here) is ironic because the parents are doing the opposite of protecting their kids by documenting virtually every aspect of their lives for the world to see.

@rhondamcqueen7780 4 жыл бұрын
@M Redmond Fortunately, in Australia, we would call Child Protective Services; who offer many services before they take the kids away. It isn't acceptable not to feed a child and a five year old shouldn't be responsible for their own lunches. It should at least trigger an investigation, even in the US where abuse is sanctioned in many environments, it wouldn't be acceptable in other countries.

@sophie-xg1zu

M Redmond for a start she is a child, children forget things, everyone forgets now and again even adults, it doesn’t make the irresponsible. Ruby made her children pack their lunches every day, she refused to remind even the youngest of them, and then she’s surprised when one day out of the whole year the 5 year old forgot it.
@sophie-xg1zu
@sophie-xg1zu 4 жыл бұрын
M Redmond also, you are comparing people in poverty not having a bed, to a child in a wealthy family who is essentially providing their families income through his role in videos, not getting the bare minimum of a bed. Yet no one is claiming either is acceptable, both are neglect. Taking away a childs bed for 7 months just isn’t an effective method of discipline, most child psychologists and psychiatrists disagree with such methods.

Exactly! Rant: Some people are forgetting how small and clumsy 5 year old humans are. Their little hands and arms that are expected to make her own lunch as fast as an adult...Her little brain and stomach. They need food to grow! Which includes growing her hands and legs, so she's at least tall enough to even reach the table...oh yeah, and the brain needs to grow big enough to be able to remember these things!! There literally isn't room in a 5 year old brain, to think about all the things adults expect her to. She isn't even being taught a "lesson." That would require understanding and memory and just, agh it's stupid!! Sorry, I'm still pissed, and frustrated reading comments from people who don't seem to be thinking of a 5 year old, in the context of their body and brain development. Preparing a lunch doesn't just require the toddler to remember, and already she has better things to focus on, at school! I hate this.

What I never understood about family vlogging is why feel the need to "show" your kids. I mean, I follow some KZbinrs who have children and make contents about parenting. However, although this content is popular and exclusively about their kids, they never show the actual kids. They're more like "my kid did this and that", "I'm trying this parenting technique" and even some more personal details, but without revealing the child's identity.

I think even like that, at this day and age, colleagues in school would for sure find out if your parent has a channel and know what they are talking about is about you. Like she says in the video, can you imagine them sharing details about like your first period? Even if you are not shown in the video, still think is not ideal. But I do get being a parent and wanting to have that community to share experiences. Not sure what the best way would be - maybe a closed group or something.

Don't monetize videos with kids in them - set an age limit if you want, say of 10 or so. These parents who especially share private, personal footage of their kids' lives obviously aren't acting in their best interests as parents should. That is why you need to set guidelines and regulations like the movie industry did. Until that happens, it appears that anything goes and it is just going to escalate unless someone puts the brakes on.

It’s going to take that first round of lawsuits. At minimum parents should have to abide by labor laws since the filming is work for kids.

I think it’s because the mothers are usually the face of the channel. It’s way more common to see mommy vloggers than dad vloggers. The mothers are more often the narcissists and the dads are the enablers. But I totally agree, both parents are shitty people who don’t deserve kids.

I would LOVE to see an experiment where family channels (especially the ace family) go a month or two without posting their kids on the channel AT ALL. Imagine the drop in views and revenue. I feel like these parents talk themselves into thinking they’re also an appeal to the channel, but they’re not. It’s all about the cute little kids and you’re right, it’s super exploitative.

I Became a Mother at 18, I Am now 23 With a 5 Year Old Daughter. I would Never Have my Child pack her lunch at 5,it’s important to give children responsibility but at that age it can’t be a requirement. Being a Parent requires you to teach them, they learn from you, it’s Abusive to expect your 5 year old child to pack, and remember their lunch.
@kayagaffney5922

Like my parents made me help pack lunch then, but they always checked that it was healthy, Then when I was in 3rd through the rest of school I was in charge of my lunch (I always had my lunch account full). I think that's a much better option to teach responsibility than what 8 passengers is doing.

@@kayagaffney5922 Right? how is a 5 year old supposed to know what a balanced meal consists of? When you pack your kids lunch with healthy food from when they are little it will teach them what they 'should' be eating so in the future they make the best choices to have enough energy to get themselves through the day.

Exactly. When I was 5 my mom always packed my lunch/helped me pack it. Sometimes I asked if I could do it and she said yes but, never made me do it on my own. I do do other task such as keeping my room clean but never cooking/making lunch. Especially because, a five year old most likely won’t make a healthy lunch.💕

Kat Sabovitch that was my first thought too. If my mom had left my lunch up to me when I was a kid it would’ve consisted of a bag of cookies and nothing more. No parent in their right mind would expect a 5 year old to understand nutrition and make healthy, balanced choices. Nutritional deficiencies can cause serious health problems, especially in children. It’s absolutely mind-boggling to me that anyone would consider that to be a young child’s responsibility

@ELLA BARRUS it is stated in multiple clips in other videos that Eve is responsible for making, packing and remembering to take her own lunch to school. In one clip Ruby is filming herself and one of Eve’s older sisters making fun of the way she packed an item of food because she didn’t do it correctly/in a strange way. So yes. Ruby make Eve make her own lunch, pack her own lunch and bring her own lunch to school. Even forgot to either make her lunch or bring it with her. Regardless of what one she forgot to do she does not deserve to starve over it and Eve’s lunch is RUBY’S responsibility as a parent! Eve probably doesn’t even know the alphabet and how to read let alone the dexterity and knowledge required to prepare a proper lunch nor the memory capacity to remember to bring it with her. You’re literally expecting a 5 year old to do something that most kids don’t start doing until they’re literally twice her age.
