We need to have an honest conversation about smoking: The problem with smoking is that it is way more than just a physical addiction.
Smoking creates a temporary problem and offers an instant solution. Once your brain is used to nicotine, for up to 72 hours you are itchy,
nervous and stressed - but one drag and instantly, you feel really good. It also helps you focus and take breaks during work, while suppressing your appetite.
So why is it such a bad idea?

Sometime before I was a teenager, my grandpa’s doctor told my grandpa that if he didn’t stop smoking, he wouldn’t even live to see me graduate high school. That’s what got him to stop smoking. In the end, he still passed away a year before I graduated, but I’m certain he was had given many extra years because he stopped smoking. He taught me so many good things, and I’m grateful he and I were able to know each other before he passed.

I'm 44 started smoking cigarettes at 15, I'm always coughing up nonstop, this video dumbed it all down for me. Now I know exactly what I'm experiencing and why. I think I'm ready to make the move and quit! I'm gonna die soon if I don't. Quit drinking 8 years ago, I was an everyday beer drinker. If I can stop drinking and never look back, I can stop smoking too! Wish me luck people, I quit smoking at midnight! Update: day 10 without a cigarette - getting better now , first week was hell I still hate you all! 😊The massive amount of support is helping me to resist the cravings. Because I refuse to fail the thousands of people who believed in me. Keep it up and thank you again 😊 Still doing push-ups when I get a craving, not as much as before, my arms still hurt like hell lol....

The title got me hooked and this is by far one of the best explainers on why smoking is NOT awesome, it is my day 5 today that I have stopped smoking, 4th attempt in the last 3 years but everytime I tried to quit smoking I had a substitute, first time I got a vape, second nicotine pouch, third hookah and now nothing, I am just going without anything and I am doing fine, I started getting cravings on my 3rd day which were quite intense but I have discovered that if you have anything with a strong mint flavor like a mouth freshner, bubble gum, it will help A LOT!! I got a freshmint mini spray which I used to spray everytime I smoked to get rid of the breath but now to deal with the cravings I just use the spray like twice a day, I get that tickly sensation on the tongue which is enough to get rid of the cigarette cravings. I am very hopeful that I am really NOT going back to smoking this time, wish me luck!!

I have ADHD. Focusing on a task was something I CANNOT do. Then I smoked back in high school for a year. It got easier to focus. So much so, that I start smoking before classes and it improves my marks. I also played basketball. TBH, I started to get really good at shooting after I smoke. The ability to focus really was something else entirely. But after half a year smoking, I began to lose my breath while playing basketball. It continued so bad that after a year, I have to quit, which is quite a mystery. Normally, stamina builds up, and we could go longer than we previously could. I was capable of playing basketball for 2 hours straight before I smoked, but after 1 year of smoking, I could barely play for 40 minutes. That's when I decided that it is not worth it. I began to quit. It was hell. Have you ever been left heart broken? That's how it felt for me, and it lasted months. But after the hell passed, I was finally free for real. I keep my ability to focus as if I have no ADHD. I'm still hyper active, but my stamina is way better after I quit. The stamina improved pretty rapidly, as if my body regained all the lost strength immediately while gaining all the gains in one go. As someone with ADHD, I do owe my capability to focus thanks to smoking, and IDK if there's any other way to learn it for someone with ADHD. But the health side effects just isn't worth it.

def heaps of other ways! my friend had adhd and could only study after drinking highly caffeinated energy drinks. She slowly cut back on them and then ended up realising that tea actually helped her just as much but without the huge spike and drop that red bull and monster had ect. The reason why you notice with nicotine and high caffeine drinks is because of how much your taking in, which is also why you get addicted, the hit is strong and noticeable. adhd meds are another way to go but lots of people I know say they don’t work that well, or lose effectiveness after a while like nicotine/caffeine and you become dependent on them to function normally. There are plenty of ways to help that don’t put your health at risk, I hope you find something that works for you and congrats for quitting smoking! :))

Great video! I’m a medical student and I just wanted to let everyone watching this know that there are medications you can take to help you quit that are VERY effective compared to just using nicotine patches or gum. Please ask your doctor about medications like Varenicline or Buproprion. The data behind both of these shows that they significantly increase your chance of quitting compared to patches / gum or quitting cold turkey. I didn’t know there were meds for quitting smoking until I started school so just wanted to share with people considering quitting!

@@peterwein1716 Cigarettes are absolutely damaging to people around you, but there's little evidence that this translates to vaping as well - vapes contain mainly isolated nicotine without any tar (many even contain pure synthetic nicotine, not extracted from tobacco), so while it is still extremely addictive, it's not nearly as damaging to the body, and the vast majority of currently used flavorings are tested and confirmed safe (the exceptions to this are CBD, THC and HHC-P vapes, which is what the scare a few years ago was about). This is still subject to active research of course, but this is what the current evidence seems to show. The delivery method itself, atomized propylene glycol and glycerol, is perfectly safe and routinely used for many inhaled medications.

How unfair it seemed that people get to take lots of breaks at work bc of it and things like that. So I decided to take my “smoking breaks” too. I don’t call it that anymore but all of those good mental health habits that smoking does promote are things I make sure to do too. Standing up, walking, drinking water, stepping away from work, mental focus, relaxing breathing, etc… anyway this video made me uncomfy hahah but it was an amazing one as always! Ty!!!

When I've been dismissed, I decided to quit and now, after almost 5 months later without a cigarette, I can already feel the difference. Yes I did get more appetite so I got some kilos on and because of asthma I have to take meds that don't help with the fat but now I can breathe freely and I can enjoy the fresh air when I'm on a walk. I recommend quitting ASAP, as said in the video, if you quit before 35, you'll be on time. @@romart03ah but that’s the paradoxical aspect. Maybe your comment is ironic, but for those who are unaware, I believe the cigarette companies are the ones who proposed printing these ‘you will die’ messages and photos on the boxes. Why? Because they sell more boxes because of it, than if they didn’t print them at all. But how’s that possible? One word. Regulation. Or the lack of it. They want to limit regulation, by the government etc. They realize that with all the negative aspects of smoking… regulation will come for them at some point. But the worst case scenario is the government places a price floor, where the price of cigarettes goes so high no one wants to buy them any more. That’s the real nightmare… so instead they themselves propose that they will ‘tackle the problems of smoking’ themselves… by printing these useless messages and photos on their boxes. Because surely they make people want to smoke less right? But as other commentors point out… nah. They are really ineffective. Smokers are gonna smoke. The companies realize this… but not the government. So big tobacco sell lots of cigarettes… and the government get the feel like they did something :D

@@jimbopreece7300I recommend starting by switching to a nicotine substitute for at least a year. Gum or patches or similar. That eliminates most of the social and habitual side of the addiction. I smoked for just 1 year, quit 4 years ago. This video still gave me cravings. One weird experience I had once, the VR game "Into the Radius" has cigarettes you can mime smoking: open the pack, put it in your mouth, pull your lighter out of your pocket, take individual drags for a couple minutes, ect. The first time did it I actually got light headed and needed to sit down. I'm curious what the science behind a reaction like that is, how you can feel the same thing years later despite nothing actually happening physically.

No, teach the actual science. It’s the filters that are causing all this damage, it alters the smoke holding onto the tar and breaking the molecules up into what’s known as “particulate matter” which is known to directly cause small cell carcinoma. A normal unfiltered cigarette has the same amount of negative health effects as drinking a cup of coffee in that it has the same amount of carcinogens as a cup of coffee, very little. The damage from the smoke in your lungs is significantly less too, because of the composition of the smoke. It’s less harmful than walking around LA when there’s smog. Filtered smokes on the other hand have 50-80x the carcinogens and directly cause cancer, while nonfilters don’t directly cause cancer. Don’t believe me? Look it up!!! They’ve done dozens of studies proving this, most recently in Japan.
