blue crab is my very fav food in the world. if the hubby and i were on the old show where the married couple have to answer a question… if they said to him “what is your wife’s fav food” he would know its blue crab. or he would just say “crab” and mess it up, haha.

Outstanding! Beautiful and I love your channel! I'm a native Marylander married to a Biloxi Girl living in South Florida. (She's from Shorecrest Road if you're familiar). I always put them in heavily iced water and it makes them go somewhat dormant and you can cook them without them pulling each other's claws off.

Hey Rus! Greetings from OS. Yesterday, my wife and I got 3 dozen and I followed your boil recipe from the steamed vs. boil video. I didn't have the veggies to put in on hand but I followed your timing and seasoning, including the bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce. I don't have a boil boss but I used the hose on shower to cool the pot while gently stirring, then soaked them for 30 minutes. They were fantastic! Now I have to steam some like this!

I've done it with Dunginess and King crab, and it does give them a lot more flavor. Only thing is, you still get the same texture that they have. No crab can compete with the Blue crab for it's sweet tender meat and mustard.

When we use the mustard, we are not using those dainty little bottles. We buy that stuff in 5lb bags and toss it on by the handful! It not only adds flavor but helps to keep the real spice blend from rinsing off the crabs. I also use handfuls of Flaked kosher salt with it. Check first to see how much salt there is in the spice blend you are using. When they are done right, there should be a layer of the three coating the whole outside of the crabs, and if we are doing corn with it, we toss them in for the last 7 minutes of the cook with the same spice/salt/mustard system. As for beer... Some do, some don't. It tends to give a bit of flavor and makes em a bit more juicy, but the water/vinegar/beer should never quite touch the bottom of the steamer basket or it will rinse off the seasoning and impart too much salt to the crabs. That is the best part of steaming and it leaves a thick enough layer to scrape it off in large quantities to eat with the crab meat. Don't tell my heart doctor I said that or I'll catch hell for it, but it makes em just the right amount of spicy.

It only gets all over your fingers, which transfers it to the meat as your picking through it. Unlike boiling it doesn't actually get into the crab, but you should try it once. There will be plenty of great flavor there.

@@mustangtez4060 I normally buy mine from Desportes Seafood market, but it was 4th of July weekend and they had already had all their crabs claimed by call in orders, so I went to Lee's International market around the corner and they had them live and fisty so I bought them there.
