The swordplay in this game is masterfully animated. There are so so soooo many finishers

Which is what makes the combat in games like this good. Arkham knight has many different ways to finish opponents too, you never know what you’ll get during a slow motion finisher in the last grunt. This was my biggest critics of Ac Valhalla, it was always the same repetitive animations over and over. Combat for 3rd person games like this needs variety and depth to keep it engaging.

thats not true at all. the optimal way to play is selecting the right stance for the right enemy and mashing heavy attacks + optional flurry for shield enemies. i think the only somewhat skillful thing in tsushima is recognizing attacks you can jump over

I'm replaying it right now and even though I've got the platinum twice (PS4 and PS5 DC, separately,) and have spent several hundred hours in Tsushima, I still find myself _constantly_ stopping to stare or walk slowly while being in actual awe at how absolutely beautiful this game is. What an achievement. The juxtapositions you get between brutal and bloody violence and truly stunning beauty and natural peace is just astounding. And I have to say, despite owning around 300 other games (I'm actually extremely picky,) and having beaten almost all of them, I still think there's nothing I've experienced in all my time gaming over the past 20+ years that feels even remotely as satisfying as calmly and precisely dispatching a ronin ambush (open combat, not a standoff,) in my white-as-death, non-protective Traveler's garb while taking no hits or damage, perfect-parrying their first attacks for the one-shot slash kills, or perfect dodging their Dance of Wrath attempt for the one-shot stab kill. It's just so exact and so fluid and... perfect. Nothing feels better or cooler (especially since Ronin are the only enemies that actually manage get one over on me anymore.) You know the feeling. Performance aside (I haven't actually played on PC yet,) GoT has definitely, in my opinion, achieved perfect sword combat gameplay. I'm addicted to restarting every boss fight and duel the moment I take any damage, and only going for flawless victories. The satisfaction is just immeasurable. It's the perfect samurai game.

This is definitely where you start to improve at combat - designing your own combos and not just sticking to one boring stance really makes a difference. I mostly try making combos that are less aimed toward actual efficiency and more towards looking clean for videos (eg letting a smooth animation play out at the end and fitting in some fancy moves in the middle). This combo you've used here is particularly good and certainly has some potential once you practice it to get the speed and flow up a bit 👍 keep it up, bro! :)

To be honest, it's a stretch to call ghost of tshumina the best of "all time" when there are many other games which beat it in different aspects. Nor can we call *any* game better than each other since it's not objective, but subjective.

Playing this game for the first time, total From-nerd here who mains Sekiro, Elden, Ds3, etc. and i have to say: Its incredible. On lethal mode its as hard as my favorites, and you really feel like a Samurai who is one mistake away from death at all times. And the world and atmosphere is borderline unparalleled.

I loved fighting groups with a mix of different enemy types. Take out one, immediately switch stances and annihilate the next, do it again for the third, throw a ghost attack in randomly, and so on. People say the combat is not anything to brag about, but that's probably because they never tried to make it fun. I absolutely loved it.
