Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

Ай бұрын

In the heart of Tyrrell's Classic Workshop, Part 2 of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Le Mans story unfolds, further detailing the legacy of one of this intriguing classic car.
Join Iain as he dives into the meticulous journey of bringing a distinct piece of Aston Martin's history back to its former glory.
This episode reveals the exclusivity of this car as perhaps the sole example of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Le Mans to remain unconverted to the V600 specification.
The workshop's dedication shines through as we delve into the diagnosis and resolution of the car's mystery engine noise. Identified as a malfunctioning water pump, Iain demonstrates the troublesome water pump on the workbench, prior to its comprehensive overhaul. With the help of Marcus, the water pump has been meticulously dismantled, rebuilt, and reinstated.
But there's more to this episode than just mechanical fixes. Iain also takes a deeper look into the history of the Aston Martin Virage series, connecting the dots to our V8 Vantage Le Mans and adding context to its significance.
And of course, what would an episode be without taking the car out for a drive? Join Iain for the road test where we see and hear just how smooth the engine runs after all the efforts in the workshop. It's a testament to the hard work put into preserving this piece of automotive history.
For those who love Aston Martins, especially the V8 Vantage Le Mans, this episode is a close look at the dedication it takes to keep these classic cars running perfectly.
Don't forget to subscribe and stay with us as we continue exploring the fascinating world of classic car restoration, where every car tells its own story.

I was The thinking today how KZbin videos have changed over the last few years. A few years ago you saw a bunch of people with minimum preparation just take videos. Some of them are so jerky as to be unwatchable. And what makes this channel so good of course is besides the information content is the attention and care they take to editing And good editing is really seamless to the viewer. You're not aware of it but you know that the video is good. I'll give you a small example here Iain is showing us the water pump - explaining what is wrong with it. And a few seconds later he says it's in the car and we're going on a test drive That is good editing - and virtually seamless to the viewer There is one guy on KZbin that I used to watch for "how to" videos on Mercedes and many of his videos are so awful as to be nearly unwatchable You're hearing airplane noise drowning out what he's saying and he doesn't even bother to redo that small segment. Then the camera is flipping doing 360° while we're under the car It's not exactly that the "film" is expensive is it? Just the time and the desire to have a good output in your product. Some thing that reflects on your name. I'd venture to say that they spend an awful lot of time here editing raw video footage to what we see on KZbin And like so many things good preparation and a meticulous attitude is the key to success

I agree with your reasoning to justify the water pump failure. Also, you need to factor in the fact it’s 25 years old. Time is also a factor.

Agree even cars at rest in storage will find the oil degrades…. And if you put the age factor in it’s not unexpected in my opinion. Water pumps fail today especially with the modern plastic variant, never understood that invention… apart from cost to manufacture being its existence.

The fact that Two taut belts had constant pressure upwards towards the Supercharger will have caused the bearings to fail. Bearings want constant Pressure 360°. With only 400 miles done on average per year bearings components will wear when not being used because of lack of usage. That's why we see Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins etc with 10k needing rebuilds at lower intervals, because they aren't being driven enough!!

My humble opinion is that this is the most beautiful Aston Martin that I have seen. Classy body, yet speaks of brute power and do not mess with me. Maybe I am biased because I have travelled 66 times around the sun, but modern "sports cars" do not evoke the same emotions in me, like this specific Aston. Thanks Iain for showing us this classic beauty.

Like a Bentley , on steroids! Remember meeting Roger Towers , the Aston Martin historian, at Newport Pagnell, whilst having a tour of the factory, circa 1998. He spoke of the V8 with great affection, and the fact you could potter it around town without a hiccup, no oiling up of plugs , no low speed misfire , absolutely no problems , then floor the throttle once out of town it would soar down the road without a puff of smoke or drama, magnificent engine, completely un flustered.

Love these Aston Martins. Muscular and at the same time refined styling. The ZF 6 speed looks to be the same design used in Corvettes from 89 to 96. Google says ZF s6-40. Corvette and Aston both ran T-56s in the late 90s to 2000s. Both reliable transmissions, Shifting the ZF was a bit bulky with the factory Corvette shifter. Like the air bags, 6 speeds were rather new in the 90s. Air bags were not as tightly packaged as they are now as they are now, quite new technology. Aston needed to comply with national standards on a budget, compromises were made to keep selling cars. Lotus and other small batch hand built cars did the same. 20 years earlier it was bumpers and crash standards giving the stylists a challenge. I don't think I'd be staring at the steering wheel if I was fortunate to own one. Looks like a comfy spot to enjoy a grunty V8.

Such a stunning colour from the 1990s and what a glorious sound. At the time, around the mid 1990s, shades of teal and cyan were quite popular over here for a while and quite some marques did offer something similar. Whenever I see a classic in it, my heartbeat still does go up from sheer joy. Such a contrast of what is popular today, although some distinctive colours seem to have returned on the road here, such as copper, lime, light blue and red. Thank you so much again Ian for a new delightful upload. Happy Easter 🐰🥚🎁

On the water pump failure when you were explaining that I was also thinking for 25 or 30 years it's been under pressure - those bearings. You restore so many low mileage exotics but I would venture to say that time is also a factor in component wear. Thanks for another great video that was both entertaining and educational Oh - one other thing. I'm really surprised at the difficulty in servicing such simple things in relatively modern cars these days. I have a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E class and to change the windshield washer tank I had to jack up the front of the car, take the wheel off and take the fender lining off just to get to the tank On another channel this shop owner from Kansas is showing us a modern Audi that needed a simple thermostat change and the whole front end of the car was disassembled to access it. Hats off to the mechanics these days that have to work under those conditions

As this beast was born, this shape was absolut not my favorit... And in this version, the nostrils are... well, special. But, it had something magic, this little bit of style more than all the other cars. And today it looks so spectacular, a muscular beast in a perfect fitted suit. And the sound is glorious. Maybe (for me) Astons must get older, so that I can see how amazing they are... To the waterpump problem: it got loud, but its not leaking! 👍 Thank you so much for this video - I really forgot this supercar over the years!

To confuse matters further, I'm pretty sure there was also a Vantage V600 which rolled out of the factory with 600hp. The body kit was a little different if I remember correctly, especially the grill/front treatment. Performance was pretty much the same as the upgraded Le Mans, therefore good for 200mph. The two cars often get kinda lumped together as the same car.

That thing is just badass. Looks like an American muscle car with British flair. 😎
