In this video, Milo shows how you can make a silicone mold of a steering wheel to create an aftermarket part. Using a silicone mold allows you to make a unique, custom steering wheel.
#moldmaking #aftermarket #custom
Milo uses Mold Star™ 30 to create this 2 piece mold. Mold Star™ mold rubbers are easy to use platinum silicones which are mixed 1A:1B by volume (no weighing scale necessary). Mold Star™ silicones feature relatively low viscosities and vacuum degassing is not required for most applications. Mold Star™ 30 is a harder material, with a 30A Shore hardness.
For more information on Mold Star™ 30, visit: www.smooth-on.com/products/mo...

the danger of this video is the craftsmanship is so incredibly high and attention to detail so thorough, it actually manages to make this look easy. The patience and skill this takes is next level. I've been making wheels and now sim wheels for a while and this makes my heart happy. well done !

A lot of prep work just to make the mold for the steering wheel, but required with great attention to details. Outstanding presentation. Somebody said in the comments, a nice Sunday afternoon project, he has no idea it requires days, not hours to perform this type of work.

Great job on this one. I have learned a lot by watching your videos but I surely would have put the pour spout on the bottom of the steering wheel. There is less chance for it to be visible even after cleanup.

For the epoxy plug, you could have cut the container to height and hot glued it to the plywood and poured the epoxy in through a small hole at the top. That would eliminate the need to epoxy it to the plywood after it's cast and wait another 24 hours for that to cure.

I suggest making a skull model. A real looking one that could even be used in a lab or a school or a medical facility. I'm sure you've seen the ones that actually come apart so you can see the inside of the skull where the brain goes. (In that case, the skull would have three pieces, jaw cranium and base) If you were ambitious enough, you could reproduce an entire skeleton! :D Thank you for considering this idea.

But is this safe to use? I feel like in an accident, sudden stop, times where the wheel locks up or gets forcibly turned, and other times where the wheel experiences stress, it seems this would break.
@starion88esir
@starion88esir 5 жыл бұрын
Why would it break? It's the same core that was originally there from the factory. It's like changing the door panel them claiming the door itself is unsafe

Why did you have to use the fiber glass? Is it just because yo wanted to save the silicone that you would otherwise use when trying to completely fill the mold to the highest part?
