That's true, and fine when you have money. My husband of 44 years passed this April 2023. Worked for the government over 30+ years. Died before he could retire. We were married 44 years. Because I'm his spouse I got his retirement. I had to provide his certified death certificate AND our marriage license. Without that just living together for 44 years wouldn't have been enough. It also allowed me to take half of my social security and half of his, which means my social security is now higher. I'm not able to work, and for those that can, if you take social security you can only work part time. He also left me life insurance we carried, and life insurance through his government job. That wouldn't work either without a marriage license. So, I'm happy for them both and understand why they've chosen not to marry, but for most of us it just isn't practical.

Just maintain that same attitude while married and there won't be a divorce. I think when people get married they feel this enormous pressure to not fail that they sabotage themselves. I've been with my husband for 11 years and I can understand because everyone in my family from my grandmother to Aunts and Uncles and my parents and my cousins are all divorced. I'm the youngest and am the only one who has made it work so far. And that's because my husband is my bestfriend. I talk to him about everything and when these apprehensions about marriage come up I don't plan my exit I discuss with him my fear and we resolve it together one day at a time.

Everyone’s arguing that they have true love because at any time they can walk away but they’re also saying “at any point in time if someone better comes along I might leave you for them.” One could argue that they’re constantly not choosing each other because they’re not committing. A marriage represents a bond. A promise. That means something. I heard a lot about not wanting more divorces. It sounds like she’s scared of marriage because she doesn’t think they’ll last. So she’s avoiding the divorce by avoiding the marriage. That doesn’t sound like true love. True love would be willing to commit. We all know this.

I’ve been married once before. Now I believe that when two people are together for many years and not married, it shows a true testament for their love for each other. A divorce takes so much paperwork and trouble to complete so people decide not to do it and stay together for the wrong reasons. Those two definitely hold true love for each other. 💞

We should each be so fortunate to have an everlasting love. It's the souls that bind, not the paper.

Love these two. Live your life how you want not what others expect. Go Goldie and Kurt ❤

Reminds me so much of my mom and “step-dad” aka her boyfriend of 10 years and counting. They got together at age 55 after each being married to their exes for 25 years. They don’t live together (not until they’re too old to be apart safely) and they won’t be getting married. I think that kind of love is so sweet and genuine.

They are great together. I remember her saying something like, sure, I'll take a ring, but a wedding isn't necessary. And they have great kids.

So true. My hubby and I never walked down the isle of matrimony. He and I were together since I was 18 and he was 25. He passed away August 18, 2020 at 10:05 a.m. in my arms. And I will never love anyone else... because we have an EVER LASTING LOVE ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Even if you weren’t married and split, it’d STILL hurt the kids! This reason sounds more like a reason to not marry AND not have kids!

They've been married before so there's no point to getting married

No, divorce can exacerbate the split
@helvaxh83488 ай бұрын
I get what you’re saying and you’re not wrong but I think her point was about the divorce process itself. She mentioned how divorce makes people hate their spouse even more than how they felt before they filed. These things can get nasty. And people may do and say things they wouldn’t originally have. Kids typically get caught in the crossfire of this. When there’s less of a process, less to lose, less uncomfortable court proceedings, less to stir up animosity; cooler heads tend to prevail and there’s more cooperation and that can go a long way toward making the separation easier on kids. It’s not for all situations, of course. It depends on the people involved.

Sure but it will cost WAYY less money and the split can be quicker and seamless than divorce which can literally take years to settle

@helvaxh8348 exactly. I've been w my partner for 20 years, never married, but we did split for a year after having kids. Bc we didnt have to divorce, it was very easy and the kids hardly noticed, other than having less stressed parents. Obviously we were both able to remain civil, sane, rational etc which is a big deal regardless of marriage but I honestly think that if we had married and divorced, we wouldn't have ever gotten back together bc it would have been so traumatic, expensive, stressful, scary, life-altering etc. Bc we never married(we were engaged at one point though), we were able to drift apart and then drift back together peacefully and naturally w no court, 3rd party, fighting, financial loss etc. We even bought a property w 2 houses on it so that we could live separately but raise kids together. Eventually we got back together, he moved in w us and his grandma moved into his small house lol

I'd say the reason they never got married is slightly less romantic than what they tell to the world.... But it's their choice and I can only respect and admire they lasted for this long. Not so common these days, especially for celebs

My wife and I were married 49 years. She passed away a couple years ago. Our marriage had its tough times but together we always figured things out. We were together for so long it seemed like we would be together for ever. We were each others shadow all those years. Our friends would mention that to us. I could not ever imagined how much
