About halfway through the first question, I realized-- I've been there before! Not to that house, but I've visited Gulfport! The fact that there is a tree growing in that kitchen totally made sense, and I called it on that answer! It's DEFINITELY a hippie, artisanal kind of community: They have an artisan's market every single Tuesday, year round. I can't remember if their downtown was a bunch of houses that got turned into businesses, or if it was the other way around. Also I'm a swing dancer, so I was thrilled to see they have a thriving swing dance community, that meets up in the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. The casino was built in 1934, is right on the beach, and has always been used as an entertainment center for the community. And they have a live band! Also also, one of the guys I danced with was this quirky old hippie dude who gave me a knotted bracelet he made, and happens to just have a bunch left over from the stock of his retired business? Fun times!
