The video is good but not being able to ride on the sidewalk is ridiculous in my opinion and should be changed until they can provide safer options. Especially at night when sidewalks are mostly empty and you have a much higher chance of being hit by a car not paying attention. Having a license to drive a scooter is extra ridiculous. Anyone doing 15 -25mph or less around town don't need to be harassed by the law unless they are acting a fool. Quit punishing the whole community for the mistakes and ignorance of the few that do this. P.s. It really is a great video made me laugh but very informative.

Public safety and freedom is a thin line. I enjoy the freedom of using my apollo ghost scooter because it's fun and doesn't use gas. I also don't drop my scooters in sidewalks for others too trip on. Be aware of other people, it's been that way on bicycles for decades as well as skateboards. Whether you run, walk, bike or whatever. We are all out here commuting to our next destination. All it takes is a little courtesy from each other to get along and go about our own business.

lol In New Zealand at this very moment you can ride on the foodpath (sidewalk?) and on the road but have to be close to the edge and ride sensibly ....you can ride in bike lanes but not on the ones on the roads ... a helmet is not required but is highly recommended and the max motor output currently allowed is 300watts otherwise you have to ride it on the road but i think u can ride it on the footpath as long as you do so safely

Just go slow when there's people and make sure you have proper space..I just got an escooter and was followed by a police car which was surprising since it seems so harmless to ride on sidewalk... I go same speeds with a skateboard on sidewalk or bike.....maybe that's illegal as well in california... I'm going to check that now😂

Hold on a second! What about the 15 MPH speed limit? Why are Bird scooters for rent on 40 MPH streets like Tasman Drive in Sunnyvale in Santa Clara County? I read you can only ride a E scooter on streets with speed limits of 25 MPH or less. I see videos on KZbin where people are driving on sidewalks and over the speed in the street limit all the time.

1. Helmets are only mandatory for riders under the age of 16. One the other hand, wearing a helmet AND giving a thumbs-up sign to the cop (riding a scooter one-handed) is dangerous and stupid. 2. a drivers license is NOT required to operate an electric scooter. What a joke! I have seen many cops do nothing as scooters just roll on by with no helmet. I see it almost every day. Any citizen of santa monica has seen cops not enforcing these scooter laws on multiple occasions. The police could be making tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars every week, but they cannot be bothered to enforce the laws. It is a shame on this city. I respect cops and I know they have a lot to do, but they ignore these scooter violations. all you have to do is walk downtown and see for yourself. Perhaps we need a Scooter Patrol to put these dockless users in their place, because every time a citizen of this city sees someone flagrantly breaking the law on one of these scooters (no helmet, riding on sidewalk, underage rider etc) they lose respect for this city and the police because they are not enforcing the laws as they should. period.

Where is the logic in making it against the law to ride a scooter on the beach bike path? Is it speed? Because they go 15mph, bikes can go 30 easily. Maybe instead of squeezing your citizens out of money again with issuing tickets you can make it illegal for companies like bird to park these things all over town on sidewalks.
