I had the SMS, the rest of the neighborhood NES. They had a 1 player Double Dragon with muddy graphics and altered levels. I had 2 player Double Dragon with great, bright graphics and levels that followed the arcade perfectly. That is something SMS deserves more praise for: accurate arcade ports. sure the graphics weren't arcade perfect, but level design was! Shinobi, Vigilante, DD, Time Soldiers, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, R-Type, Choplifter, RASTAN! (my favorite), Rampage...

It is rather curious in Spain everyone use to had Spectrum, wasn't like that in the islands? I guess SMS and NES arrived late here. Most people went straight from Spectrum to Megadrive and SNES.

I liked the Sega version better for three reasons: 1) Two player co-op (I use to play the game with my brother back in the day) 2) Unlimited continues for the first three missions (you could have a LOT of fun screwing around). 3) NO platforming sections (it was a pure beat em up, like the arcade). I STILL like the Sega version better. Granted, I will agree that the hit detection for most attacks is weak (except for the jump kick. That attack ALWAYS worked). NES version has better hit detection
@GXSCChater11 жыл бұрын
Technos always upgrade the moves and smooth out physics when porting to nes, its the only versions that run 60fps and has the best collision detection.

I don't think there are any matches where the NES versions don't come out on top. Honestly, regardless of how faithful or unfaithful to the arcade these ports were, the NES had the most enjoyable versions of all 3. It sounds almost blasphemous to say, or even think it, but I even think the NES versions are the definitive Double Dragon titles > the arcade versions! Double Dragon II on NES is just insurmountable imo as the best DD of it's time and one of the best NES games ever, to boot...

Master System version wins easily. The main feature of the game is the 2 simultaneous players. The NES version should be called "Alone Dragon".

Every game I played in both NES and SMS, SMS was always better, the only thing I missed was in Ninja Gaiden's cut-scenes in the SMS version, because the SMS version of the game was perfect.

@Blueberrypassion The video is playing the game with FM sound enabled, which is only possible in Japanese Master System consoles and emulators allowing the possibility. You probably are playing the game with the default PSG sound of the console, which lacks that door sound.

Once again, great vid, Rin and friend. Hope RMC gets this on the site soon for the GoNins to check out! :) I love the random word bubbles that show up. It would've been easy to overuse them or underuse them but it's just right and they always brought a smile to my face when you did use them. Good stuff, I'm glad you got tied into GoNintendo or else I may never have found your guys' stuff!

4:58 If I remember correctly, it was just because of coloring/palette issues with the NES hardware. This also explains the lack of simul-2 player in the main game, but don't quote me on either of these.

I like how you used the sound of the SMS port with the FM-Chip installed! Though an expensive upgrade since it can only happen through modding, it sound better than the Genesis version. I know, that port was unlicensed, but it's still worth noting for looking/playing closest to the arcade.

I seem to be having some difficulty with my Power Base Converter on my Genesis. On every Master System game the left side of the screen seems to have about a 0.5 inch gap between the edge of the screen and the edge of the game being displayed. Genesis games display properly however. Anyone got any ideas what might be causing it? Or at least if there is a name for this particular problem so I can look it up myself?

I recently bought my sms copy and i thought it might be defective because of the sprite flicker. Great game though
@tightlypackedcoil15 жыл бұрын
The sound on your copy is very, very different from the sound on mine, likely due to the presence of an "FM" sound chip on your Master system (or the emulator if that is how you recorded the footage). The doors didn't sound like flatulence when I played it.

The Master System version is leaps and bounds ahead of the NES. What I wanted was a game that was as close to Arcade perfect as possible, and Sega delivered.
@mexicanwaluigi14 жыл бұрын
I was curios what emulator did you use to record the SMS version? cause the sms version actually has far superior sound if your emulator has a YM2413 sound chip function or if you play on a japanese console or you mod a non-japanese console with a YM2413 chip. But yeah the elevators still sound like crap, literally.

Aside from having better graphics the Sega Master System also output RGB video signals natively. You would have to modify an NES to get anything better than composite out of it.

I had this game, I have to wonder if the flickering was a problem of the NTSC version, I had the PAL version and I don't recall having such problems with it. The game was awesome. By the way the NES version is pretty great too though, I liked the port differences. Ports of arcade games used to have so many differences on each system back then.

One thing that I really liked about the sega mastersystem is that it had RGB output through it's 8 pin mini DIN connector out the back. Plug in an SCART cable and plug that into an adaptor to convert it to component (or just stay with the SCART if you are lucky enough to live somewhere that SCART TVs are common) and you have the best damned clarity you can get with an analog setup. Not to mention Space harrier 3d was a very fun game.

Not a bad job on the video. Makes me wonder if James Rolfe influenced you a bit ;) Just a little tip: I'd recommend using a better mic for your on screen bit as on camera mic sounds a bit under par with your VO mic (and also adds an echo.) Also, you might consider adding a light to brighten up your shot :) Good job though!
@ThatOneSeong12 жыл бұрын
Thats because the Neo-Geo version was based on the DD movie, not the original arcade game, thus it counts as a spin-off game (Like the movie). Also, on an unrelated note, wouldn't SFxT count as Street Fighter 8? (At least if you count all releases on consoles after SF4 as sequels) it sounds ridiculous, but it could happen at some point if Final Fight was originally SF2.
