Probably one of, if not the biggest design flaw in Fox and SN chassis is the K member bolt holes and random openings on the wheel side allowing dust, dirt, water, and salt into the frame rails.

The strut towers on my 91 5.0 are in sorry shape. In the five years i have owned it, I have never driven it in the winter on our salty Indiana roads. Seeing this repair being done is quite motivational. I will try to tackle this job only after my 69 Torino is on the road......That one is another story! Thanks man!

Yep that surface rust should have been blasted ,treated and painted IMO,especially where you have mating surfaces in a known problem area. That’s just me.

@@bmw171 exactly. Por15 doesn't really work all that well in my experience. If anything blast paint then once reassembled use a healthy coating of cavity wax with a long application straw.

Could take it a step further and hit rust treated pieces with weld through primer. Once completed follow up with internal frame coat like the one from Eastwood. Overkill is a good thing in this problem area for sure. Imo
@RobertSiwik19682 жыл бұрын
I would really either turn up the welder or if you're using CO2 gas I would switch to stargon co2/argon mix. It will give you a much nicer, weld and better penetration. I would've also welded slugs in before you put the side pieces on and treated the metal really good and painted inside of the frame. nice effort, but not the way I would've done it. Sorry for being so critical. I'm doing the same thing on my son's 90 Fox.
@sheldonwilliams61538 жыл бұрын
I'm not a professional or anything but I just replaced the frame on my mustang and had to fab up the the rust spots on both frame rails but those spacers for your kmember bolts were too big in diameter it's best to use something the almost the same diameter of the bolts so the bolts don't shimmy cause I made the same mistake

Is this a common problem? My 94 has lived its entire life in Texas. I haven't notice any rust, but now I'm concerned, it's a convertible and has been caught topless several times in the rain back in the aughts. Carpet was replaced about 6 years ago, and I still didn't notice any rust. The car has seen snow, but they use sand on the roads, and we're talking like maybe 3 days in its life it's been driven in it.
