Hey there! Thank you so much for watching our video. What we meant by simpler life is that it just seems from everything that I have seen or read is that the work balance seems to be better there. That pollution and crime are less ( which adds to the stress here ) and that The Netherlands is beautiful and peaceful. The bike riding and the architecture there make us want to hop on a plane! Let us know what county you would like to see us try food from next or what other Dutch snacks we should look for!

The windmill cookies are speculaas koekjes, try dipping them in tea, coffee or hot-milk . Stroopwafels( oo=oa thus stroapwafels)are best warm, put em on top of a cup of hot tea/coffee for while. BUT fresh made stroopwafels from a market stall are the best, when you are in NL you must try it👍And there is so much Dutch snacks/food you still can try out . Poffertjes(small pancake-isch yumyumyummies) with f.e. Butter and powdered sugar oe witn Nutella. Bitterballen, a fried savoury thing filled with ragout (all kinds from meat to vegan). Rookworst(smoked sausage) good on it own, but in comby with sourcrout and mashed potatoes and gravy the Dutch classic Zuurkool met worst. Oliebolle(oily balls) met krenten (with raisins), a dougnut-ish deep fried typical dec.holydays treat with powdered sugar on top. Patatje oorlog (frtites war), 'French' frites with mayonaise , sateh sauce and chopped frech onions. Hollandse Appeltaart, so much better than regular Applepie. Tompouche, Limburgse vlaai, Bosche-bollen. Vla(custard- ish desert) from vanilla to chocolade to' hopjes' flavoured. Paprika chips. Boterbabbelaars(butterblabbermouthhs) Werther's orignals . And so, so much more. Come to the Netherlands and bring a healthy appetite with you 👍🤣

Hi, all the snacks in the box are well known(and liked) here in The Netherlands. When you order a coffee anywhere here, there's a very good chance it gets served with a windmill cookie. The Kaneelstok (cinnamon stick) or Kermis stok(carnival stick) is popular with children who visit a fair/carnival with parents or grandparents(too keep them kids quiet lol). The Peijnenburg ginger bread, we call it ontbijtkoek (breakfast cake) or peperkoek (pepper cake), you can find it in every household. The one-sclice pack is to take it to school or work. I like it with real butter, some people also put chocolate sprinkles on it. Stroopwafels are awesome en very popular here, u can find them in any vendingmachine, gas station, trainstations, stores or like in Amsterdam (and other big city's) they make them on the spot for you, warm and deliscious.. All three chips are also popular, like you, I like Wokkels the most. The coffee candy is a tradition here. The fruit candies are nice because they use real fruit extract for taste and color, no artificial stuff. And ofcourse the licorice is very much liked here, the Venco Muntendrop( coin licorice) is (I think) the most popular in The Netherlands. The colored licorice in different shapes you mentioned, we call it Engelse Drop (English Licorice), I think you call it Liquorice allsorts. But yeah great video, I love to watch people from abroad trying our snacks and Licorice :P Thanks!

With the chips, i'm glad they send the Croky Bolognese, that one is way better than the Lay's one. Patatje Joppie is ok in my mind, i'd go for the Cheese-Onion by Lays. But the wokkels paprika, yes, iconic and almost everyone here likes or loves them.

The 'kaneelstok' vs 'kermisstok' on the packaging: the traditional place to find these sticks for sale is at a candy vendor at a 'kermis', which is Dutch for (traveling) carnival / funfair.

The chips are rather local flavour. The gingerbread we like to eat with (full cream) butter when to dry. Cinnamon stick is really a carnival treat like corndogs in USA. Windmill cookies are available in severale variations (thick/thin). Stroopwafel best enjoined fresh but can be warmed up over your cup of coffe/choc...

The cinnamonstick isn't the only flavor, every year at the carnival/fair there's a stand with hundreds of diffrent kinds of sticks in all flavors. I Really like the cinnamon ones too so I got one last year thats 20 inches tall and 2 inches thick. And you can keep them for over a year before they go bad! (they get really hard over time tho, so watch your teeth or put it in a towel and smash it with a hammer for easy eating)

Hi, I stumbled on your video and I loved it. Specially because you toasted/cheersed to each other with every treat, so cute to see. Here is some background information for you. These products are all very populair, where speculaas (the windmil cookie), stroopwafel and dropjes (licorice) are added to the dutch genes, so to say. Other products like the special chip flavour are modern. The stroopwafel tastes even beter if you lay it on your hot cup of coffee or tea for a minute to let the caramel melt. The drop (or individual: dropjes) was original ment to eat/suck when you have a cold. It eases your painful throat and opens up your noise. Today there are a lot of new varieties of drop, like combinations with fruit gummy or coated in sugar, but I stick to the original ones, because of their distinct deep flavour.

Licorice is a weird subject because there's not one flavor of licorice. You got sweet licorice, salty licorice, licorice that's combined with gummy so it has a combo flavor, there's honey licorice, there's hard and soft versions of either, there's super salty ones (like your face will contort due to how salty they are haha), there's even chocolate/licorice combos, tho those aren't my favorites It's weird tho because I've loved it all my life and associate the taste of pretty much all licorice versions with something that tastes good, and pretty much all my US based friends spit it out as if it's the worst taste they've ever had xD Makes me wonder what differs from the taste palette from a US person compared to an EU person (because licorice is not just popular in NL, other countries like Denmark/Sweden and such love it as well) to make it such an appalling taste (though you were quite reasonable in your review ^^) I do wonder if there is a version of licorice you would like, due to the many different flavors there are

I would catogorize the 'hopjes' in the oldfashion kind candy. I don't know anyone that goes to the store and says: "Let me buy some hopjes today.: It is more a candy like a mint you can get in restaurants at the counter. To me at least. It says Netherlands for sure, but I don't think it would be a first choice for many to pick. The cinamon stick or kermis stok (there are different variaties and all called kermisstok) are comonly found on out door fairs or special candy stores. But it is something we associate with outdoor fairs and probably only buy it there, and is also a very old concept. Licorice I would personaly not reconmend muntendrop for the box. We have also different variaties in the drop department. There are better choices. Theres hard and soft licorice. salty or sweet. Coated with a mint layer or salmiac powder combined with fruitgummies or sugarcoated many many more.

Bit, late, but alright. I don't know if you have an Aldi or Trader Joe's anywhere near you (Aldi owns both), you can probably find the windmill cookies (speculaas). So my girlfriend from Illinois tells me at least. As for the range of snacks you received I'd say it's a fairly good representation of what's popular and 'typically Dutch'. I mean obviously it's hard to pack an entire culture into a small box, so of course there's things I'd recommend (Koggetjes, any Cote D'Or chocolate, Pretmix, Pickwick Caramelized Pear tea... just off the top of my head). Overall I'd say there's a fair amount of overlap between the US and the Netherlands... although I would LOVE to see some Jolly Ranchers, Junior Mints, Andes Mints, etc make their way over here. If you're truly interested in the Netherlands, might be worth checking out the Geography Now video on this little speck of a country: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGW3noR7j9-mm8U&ab_channel=GeographyNow ...and now I've turned into one of those people just shoving random information into people's faces by means of a way too long comment. I swore I'd never be that person, but here we are!

The 'Zure Matten' say "I love Veggie" because there's no gelatin in them. No animal based products, so vegetarians can eat them too! And I love the patatje joppiesaus chips as well. They don't contain mustard though. It's probably because the recipe for joppiesaus is a secret one and just some of the ingredients are known, that they would guess what's in it. But the description they gave is incorrect. If you order 'Patatje joppie' in a 'snackbar' you'll get fries with joppiesauce. Patatje means 'portion of fries'. It originates from that. Just like Mayo or other sauces. for fries or on snacks like a hamburger or 'frikandel'.

Stroopwafels, you should leave them on top of a central heating conveyor for some time before eating them. Windemill cooky? Never came across them in 53 years of being Dutch, they look like speculaas, it is just a brand for tourists? Liquorice, yes, Dutch, it's a shame they send you this bag, you should get a bag with a sample of the dozens of varieties. These indeed are hard, it's not they took to long to reach you. But there are soft varieties, savoury and sweet, just dozens. They might have sent you "Droptella" instead of Fruitella, the liquoruice variety, they are good! Btw you should be happy not to have tasted laurierdrop (laurel - liquorice) very old fashioned, and extreme... Kaneelstokken? Yes, carnaval candy! Just like the similar "zuurstokken" which are like pink and taste sweet with a bit of sourness. I'm missing "Spekjes" they should definitely be included in this box.

Please say stroapwaffle. At least that sounds close to okay. And why does the Dutch gingerbread smell like the holidays? Because it was the Dutch who brought all those holiday spices from the far East in the first place. A kaneelstok is probably called a kermisstok (fair stick) here because they are sold at fairs. But nobody ever calls it a kermisstok. Never heard of it even. It's a kaneelstok because kaneel means cinnamon. Fruitella is from the same candy factory that invented mentos. Veggie in Dutch is used as short for vegetarian. So no gelatin.
