The Chocolonely bar is not irregular just to be abstract, there's actually a meaning behind it! It's made with 100% fair trade cocoa and the company actually tries to donate money to people affected by the cocoa trade that don't get paid. The design is irregular because in reality not always everybody gets an equal piece.

The bottom left part (except the most bottom left piece) is actually in the shape of the African countries the world gets 60% of its cocoa beans from: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, and Cameroon. And yes, their central message is that until everyone gets a fair share, Tony's chocolate bars will remain unequally shaped as well :) Here's a very short video from Tony Chocolonely themselves where they show this kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKfUl2mVjrlrirc

Agreed about the not doing justice. The real thing is only good when the spoon can stand in it without falling. As a Brabander we have two varieties; we make pea-soup (erwtensoep) on day 1 but we make way too much of it. The leftover is used the next day and then it is called "snert". All the ingredients have had extra time to get together and blend to produce the real flavour and textures of 'snert'. And it must have been made with stock from pigs feet. There should be flesh and fat from said feet still in there.

7:57 For our Japanese friends, rinse appelstroop is an apple syrup. Rins means slightly sour. I'm Dutch, and I can tell you the only times I see this word rinse, is on the jars with apple syrup. Maybe in the south, or in Belgian Dutch, they use the word rins. But honestly, to me it sounds like one of those words in history books. Who in the Netherlands would say it a couple of times a year? I've got the impression rins is dying out, but those apple farmers still like it. That e is just a Dutch suffix: something is rins, so it's the rinse thing.

When you go to Amsterdam, which is in the Netherlands, you can have as much stroopwafel as you want! They're my favorite, too. On a side note, there's a chain of stores in the U.S. called World Market (Cost Plus) that sells a lot of Dutch treats, including stroopwafels and Tony's chocolates. I'm with Satoshi, though--I'm not a black licorice fan. I'll take just about any other flavor, though.

Love how the guy on the right tries to pronounce the dutch words, doesnt do a bad job at it either by the way! go Japan! :D The Erwtensoep from Cup a soup, is but a shadow of the real thing. Hope you can try the real soup dish one day, its a perfect winter soup in my humble opinion.

Hi guys, here in England, beer mixed with lemonade, it's called shandy, but they use the normal and alcoholic beer here though, which here it's called larger, as beer it's the Real Ale here, which is less gassy and it's stronger, and there are numerous types of it.

Dutch mix beer with 7up, we call that sneeuwwitje(snow white), and from our Belgium neighbors I learned mixing cola with beer, that is also very good. In past dutch children got sneeuwwitje(beer with 7up) if there was a party, also called kids beer.

3:28 from now on I shall call our ontbijtkoek 'ontobitukwik' too ... that is just beautiful!! :-) 5:49 why would anybody be insulted by a wrong pronunciation? Amused is what I am when you try to pronounce our language... probably just like you when I would try speaking Japanese.

Hi Guys, I am thinking my message was too long and you did not read the bit about a parcel. In Australia my first beer experience was a shandy, where you mix lemonade and beer to your taste, very nice on hot day Is that breakfast cake similar to gingerbread? GUYS, I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU On Friday when I arrive in Shinjuku hopefully my main luggage with a lot of goodies will be there If so as should be, can you pick up your big parcel from Shinjuku before you leave again? Don't worry, it was never my intention to inconvenience you by seeing you, I just want you guys to try new snacks. When I arrive on Friday will let you know and take it from there Oh those stroopwaffles are addictive, so my vote Thanks again

That breakfast cake *does* taste a little like gingerbread yes. Funny story, if you add some water, it makes for very convincing fake poo, if you like pranks of course. We do actually have licorice ice cream in The Netherlands and it's absolutely wonderful but not a whole lot of people know it I think, it's pretty niche.

i almost spat out my licorice laughing at your brave attempts to pronounce ontbijtkoek. the instant pea soup may seem nice, but only until you taste the real stuff - incomparable! the spreads for bread and the sprinkles are better if you put a thin layer of butter or margarine first, it brings out the flavour better. dutch people eat bread slices like that often as breakfast and as lunch so we like a lot of toppings to choose from: cheese, thinly sliced meats, jams, those sweet ones you tried, but also what we call "bread salads" (it's more like a mayonnaise-based spread - almost no vegetables involved, lol). that would be things like egg salad, tuna salad, chicken-curry salad, celery root salad, salmon salad and increasingly, hummus.

Delicious looking except for the licorice. I'm with Satoshi on that. That pea soup looked hardy, warm, thick, juicy and delicious. Pea soup and onion soup are two of my favorite winter choices. That apple spread reminds me of apple butter but it's so much darker. Thanks for sharing these with us. Thank you Rubin for sending them.
