Brett, creating a course with Jedd breaking down this style from basic to advanced would be a fantastic offering. It would make the beloved Knopfler style accessible and attainable for thousands of us.

I'm not much of a fan of Knopfler but every now and then I catch sight of him playing and then I'm struck by the notion that he draws the sweetest tone from his guitar that I've ever heard. His combination of touch, tone and timing is exquisite.

Absolutely on all fronts - but not a fan of Knopfler? Why ever not, especially given all you’ve said! ;)
@henryb160 Жыл бұрын
@@FoardenotFord On the whole I dislike many of his songs and find his politics repugnant. Also, he seems quite chilled today, but in the early days he was a nightmare to be around. Just ask his brother who was just one of many he treated like crap. The great British country picker Ray Flacke also thinks Knopfler's a great player but doesn't care much for his music.
@FoardenotFord Жыл бұрын
@@henryb160 Disliking his songs is fair. I’m not sure what you mean about his politics - his lyrics indicate a soft spot for the working class, but he himself seems very private about his personal politics. His dad was a socialist and anti-Nazi, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he had some left leaning populism in him, but as far as I’ve read he’s never come out in staunch support of a political position or candidate. Maybe you know something I don’t? Certainly plenty of people found him difficult to work with. He’s a “my way or the highway” artist, as many greats are. It is a shame to think of the falling out with David in particular, but according to recent interviews, their relationship has improved in the last few years. I think he’s mellowed a bit in his age, as you said. All this to say that not liking the man but appreciating the talent is completely valid.

Man, thanks for featuring Jedd Hughes, Brett. He has such a great touch...very individual. I think a lot of his style comes from him being a writer himself. Such a song awareness and really uses the whole guitar and really brings out the best of what it can do. He's the kind of guy that sits down in a session and makes everybody else sound better. That, to me, is always the goal. Well done! You guys have a natural rapport, which makes it a great hang. Really great.

This is so interesting because I also see where I can hear similar things in some of the influences I grew up with like ZZ Top and some of the later more bluesy 38 Special that Danny Chauncey played on. I think it's a little different and maybe not as muted but it's a similar triplet feel with a sense of movement to it even when you're playing just one chord. It's a fantastic thing to work on!

That style reminds me of the chickens on the farm the way they cluck, strut, scratch the ground for bugs, spread their wings and throw their chest out. It also sounds like a horse hitched up to a race cart called a sulky, the rhythm sound the hoofs make when the horse trots. Mark Knopfler recorded on Sonny Landreth’s Blue Tarp Blues song on the album From The Reach. Clapton, Vince Gill, Eric Johnson, others played on the album. Congo Square song written by Sonny, Dave Ranson, and Mel Melton is amazing true life facts. It is a place established in 1817 for slaves to play music, worship, trade,buy, and sell goods with each other in New Orleans. A lot of artist covered the song, check out Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks playing Congo Square in New York on KZbin. It is one of many many tourist attractions in New Orleans. Love the video Brett and Jedd. 👍🙏😎✌️
