the trick is to get some good size circle hooks and some 4 oz weights and after snagging a carp cut it up for bait and then use it to catch some monster catfish there.

Remember camping and watching my dad and the other men snag at night at ky lake. Used to stay up til 3 in the morning watching them and then I would sleep on a piece of plywood on the rocks😂 We quit camping a lot and I’ve only got to snag once now that I’ve grown up but we are gonna start doing it again this summer.

So glad to hear your dispatching em and trying to eat some of them. Man they are some ugly fish. Don't ever take that guy with the Gaff, frog giggin.

I hope that you are not releasing them back LOL

JULIE there’s normally a game warden there at the dam to make sure people done catch and release these carp. I’ve actually cleaned and eaten a few of these. They are hard to clean but very good to eat.

@@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky Having been to this spot a few times, quite a few caught fish (apart from the times there are fish kills) end up tossed up on the rocks to rot. Which of course smells like Hades -- my wife refuses to go to the KY Dam tailwater any more. If I ever was able to land one or more of these Asian Carp, most likely I'd just boil them and feed them to our chickens. I've also read the fillets can be pressure cooked to make the small bones so soft you don't even notice they are there. (I've tried this with trout and it works.) I suppose they could be chopped up (use a hatchet?) into catfish food, too.

Can you as sportsmen sell to the Asian buyer I read about there or do you have to be commercially licensed?

I give them away if anyone wants them.

Hey man I’m heading down to grand river is this where it’s at? I’m planning on snagging
@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky2 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s below the Ky Lake dam. I think this time of year you can only snag at night. It’s been so hot that’s the best time to go anyway right now. Good luck!

@@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky is it illegal to at day time? No way lol idk the area.
@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky2 жыл бұрын
You can check the Ky department of fish and wildlife website. I think daytime snagging season ends the end of may but I may be wrong. But I know you can snag all night.

@@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky rip lol. Idk if I can snag at daytime then that’s what my papa said

Are those fish edible? Clean water right?
@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky4 ай бұрын
They are edible and very good to eat. Most don't eat them due to the Y bones making them harder to clean, but I've eaten them and they are terrific

If there was a lot of Asians living out there I think the Asian carp would be extinct rn 😂

Looks like fun, and I see you boys know what side of the reel to put the handle on. For real. I've never understood in my life why people fish left handed with spinning reels, unless your left handed. Absolutely back asswards. How are they eating wise?
@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I totally agree about the handle on the reel. Been saying that for years.

Why do you put them back, thought they were invasive & destroying your habitat?
@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky3 жыл бұрын
We don’t put them back. The KDFW won’t let you if you wanted to. We kill them and put them back in for the catfish or whatever to eat. I’ve actually stated keeping some to eat myself. They are excellent smoked. You just have to pull the bones out.

@@OutdoorswithChrisandBecky Ugh, too many end up washing back up on the rocks and smell like Hades. If you can find someone with backyard chickens (like me), the carp can be boiled and fed to the chickens. Carp cut up make good garden fertilizer / compost too.
