I am originally from Singapore and moved to the US for over 20 years, currently living in Scottsdale, AZ. I would retire in Thailand or Malaysia. Cameron Highland, Genting and Ipoh are my top choices in Malaysia. I would not retire in Singapore cos of the cost of living, lack of outdoor and hot weather. You got it right. Malaysians are very friendly people and they are real, just like Thais. You won't get fake smiles, like in some places in the developed world... where they don't really want you to be there.

Cameron Highland is a district, while Tanah Rata is a small town... There are no supermarket & other entertainment (cinemas bowling alley), big hospital etc because it is a tourism & farmers community.. It's located 1-2 hours up in the mountain, so it's not worth it to build supermarket & big hospital etc because the community is small & the land value there is expensive as hell (tourism land plot).. If you said that your cost of living there is 900$ there, you probably can live with 500$ at Taiping (same cold climate as Cameron, because its always rain).. Lunch can be around $3 for 2 person...

Hi there, Glad that u guys enjoy your stay so far in the country. I went up to CH twice within the past 6 months, and I sure like the town a whole lot - the spring-like 70°f daytime weather being the most primary reason - i think i had easily walked about 10 km on a few days there. On this particular post, though, i thought any comparison btwn CH vs Charlotte is way too unequal and might just not reflect some of the finer realities; CH being a small outpost town on the hills and Charlotte being a pretty big american city esp within the two carolinas, and it even has an NBA franchise team (big enough tv market) etc.

But one thing I like is in the hospital, absolutely no crowd. Only local go there and people knew each other. It is close community. You can call it as village. So the aura is positive and cheerful even for hospital. IThe medicine in hospital ony enough for the local who live there. Once I went there as tourist and we forgot our medicine, they don't have it.

Wow I'm shocked about the USD300 vs USD4. Never have I felt so blessed to be a Malaysian. But still, wish to visit US one day and experience the difference in culture, food, everything :)

Medicines are definitely cheaper in Malaysia, India was the cheapest I ever seen, one third or one fifth of Malaysian price. We use to get medicines from India for special cases as it is very much cheaper and no hassle. Thailand is also another place to get good prescription drugs without any hassle, cost almost same or even cheaper than Malaysia. Indonesia, Laos and Cambodia cost more . The Philippines is cheap but highly controlled but the counter staffs are very professional. I am not sure about Burma and Vietnam.

Are you traveling to Kelantan ?
@snailtravelers4 жыл бұрын
We found out that the RMCO is extended and now we should be able to stay in Malaysia longer. This will give us more time to see some new parts of the country. We're not sure if we'll go to Kelantan yet, we are still planning where to go. Thank you!

most of the health care products in US are owned privately I guess. Malaysia government has control over all standard prices of everything. For safety, there are no guns sold in the open market in Malaysia, therefore that part is definitely safer
