ive been a snake bite victim in Mumbai during rains. it was a very small just about 2 ft snake which "accidently" bit me on my ankle. I saw the snake and the first thing i did was "NOT panic" I took slow deep breaths and went to a nearby clinic and the doctor there told me of the nearest hospital which stocks antivenom. My friend took me in her car and within 10 mins of the bite i was in the emergency. NOTHING AT ALL WAS DONE AT THE SITE OF THE BITE. NO CLEANING NO ANTISEPTIC NOTHING. They just saw it and started giving me the required medicines thru IV. I was under constant observation. after about 2 hours I started to get a bad back ache then stomach ache and then i started vomiting violently. they immediately did an ultrasound and in a an hour did an MRI. I was thrashing violently on the bed so 4 people had to hold me down to get my MRI. My blood was taken every hour for 48 hours to check all the compositions. My WBC had shot up to I think 5 figures and my kidneys were literally fried !! My feet looked black and my entire leg was almost blue in color and was swollen 5 times its size. My doctor was too good and she gave me the right medicines and kept me on lots of fluids - a glass of fluid almost every hour as in coconut water, buttermilk, juice, plain water ect. Thankfully my immunity was very strong and i responded to the medicines well. after a week in the hospital i was discharged with just swollen feet and antibiotic prescription for another 2 weeks. The snake was some Krait variety and was quite poisonous. I had recovered completely in a months time but continued to drink barley water, coriander water for 6 more months to flush out any remaining toxins. the skin of my leg continued to look blue for close to 8 months and came back to its original color only after an year. YOU SHOULD NEVER TIE ANYTING OVER THE SNAKE BITE AS THE POISON CAN BE VERY STRONG AND IF REMAINED CONCENTRATED AT ONE POINT IT CAN LITERALLY MELT THE MUSCLE AND BONE IN THAT AREA. THIS MIGHT LEAD TO AMPUTAION OF THAT PART OF THE BODY.IT IS BEST TO LET IT FLOW THRU THE SYSTEM AND LET THE BODY MECHANISM FLUSH IT OUT. I was very lucky to have survived becs of quick response. some 3 other snake bite victims did not survive. one was an elderly person with high diabetes. So keep yourself very healthy and your immunity high. it might just save your life.

Important information! But people should know that in most cities (Delhi-NCR, Ghaziabad etc.), anti venom is available in district or govt hospitals only. Private hospitals don't generally stock anti-venoms because they don't usually get snake bite cases. So if the snake bite happens in a city, reach out to the district hospital.
@DK-ir1hp
@DK-ir1hp Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info!! That’s really important to know that to which hospital the patient needed to be taken. All the experts in their videos say that take the snake bite patients to hospitals but they don’t tell which kind of hospital carries the anti venom. I don’t think all hospitals carry it. How can they miss such important info? In such situation going to a wrong hospital can cost life.
@kamakshibhalla1435
@kamakshibhalla1435 Жыл бұрын
@@DK-ir1hp true. They should mention. But I think in forest areas or areas where snakes and bite cases are common, all hospitals are likely to stock anti venom. One can find out in one's area and keep the info handy. We don't have a forest around. But noticed cobra occasionally near flat. Had to reach out to forest wildlife dept to take away the snakes. Luckily no casualties so far

Dear Dr Richa, thank you for this excellent and informative video on how to provide first aid after a snake bite. The explanation on the two ways that venom works (neuro or cardio toxic) and the advice to immobilise the limb that has been bitten is all new knowledge for me. I enjoyed learning about how ASV is made and the advice to use mosquito nets and other precautions is invaluable. I didn’t realise previously that it’s approximately in 15% of bite cases that the snake has delivered a venomous payload. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏽 it is much appreciated 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

And that snake peacefully left our house. By god's grace we were saved that night. That snake was very poisonous. Because there were so many yellow and black lines on that snake. Scorpio aaya tha ghar mai toh wo bahot chota tha. Phir bhi zehrela tha. Now we left that house. No snakes here. 🙏🏾

Dear Dr. Thanks for the video made in simple language. Just one correction. The bite site should not be washed or cleaned by first responders. This can be done in the hospital. Also in areas that have a distribution of medically significant snakes that are outside the Big Four category, knowing the culprit species can help doctors ascertain what kind of symptom to expect which will further help them be better prepared and manage the patient.

In India, there are too many death because of unawareness, traditional beliefs, like zad funk, bhuva, and all stupidity। Hope this kinds of awareness program should shown on TV, which will be really helpful

Option no 1 depending upon the Snakes which is been bitten... Russel Viper ka bite ke liye hai ye not for other Snakes such as King Cobra, Spectacled Cobra, Monocled Cobra... Just go to Dr, Hospital and Take AVS ( Anti Venom Serum). 👍👍👍👍

Thanks for giving us the knowledge on this very serious issue of snake ites about which most of us are clueless and terribly afraid. Please also tell us about the level of hospital where antidotes are always available. Also throw light on how to handle a snakebite case where the treatment is likely to be available only after 6 or 8 hours.

The first and foremost thing is to stay calm because almost 70 % of snakes in india are non poisonous. But if it's poisonous then 1) Told the person to stay calm 2) immobilise the limb 3) Wash the wound with antiseptic liquid . 4) Rush toward the hospital that have ASV . Because I personally faced this in July 2020 but I was lucky enough that I got treatment on time . Note - Dont tight the place because due to lack of oxygen and proper nutrient supply it ultimately leads to gangrene..
