I have some snake plants (2 sansevieria superba and a hahnii), I had them in my east facing window and continued to water them around every 3 weeks (as I did during winter). They actually shriveled up in the longer hours of sun that we get around Stockholm, Sweden this time of year! I moved them to the west windows, where there's considerably less full-sun hours and they're much happier now. Not really sure what I can keep in the sunny east window now though.. I have some small aloes there lol
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah lots of houseplants do not like long hours of direct sun. The only one's I can think of that would love that would be some succulents or cacti. Or you could get a sort of sheer curtain and make it indirect bright light all the time which would be ideal for lots of different houseplants! Best of luck in your search!

Emma I think your Snake Plant is one of the dwarf varieties, so it probably won't reach the height you were saying. i have managed to kill quite a few of these but I think it's because I don't have Central Heating and the Winter is too hard for them. They are usually pest free and you're right, so easy to keep. They like a fairly neutral soil too I think, and you should sing to them sometimes.... Oh that's just me. No wonder they die ! 🤣

Welcome! Glad you're enjoying! Yeah a SW window should be okay depending where you live. In the UK it would probs be fine as we don't get loads and loads of hot sun, but warmer/sunnier places may be too much. Just keep an eye on it and look out for sunburn

Thanks for the video, I have a quick question : in a medium size pot, I seem to have two roots. Should I separate them or do they like to be together ? İt seems crowded, I realised that the 2nd one s leaves are wider, like towards the floor. İf I have to separate them, what kind of soil should I use? Universal one is good enough? Thank you so much !
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 4 жыл бұрын
I think most snake plants will come with more than one plant in the pot and that is totally fine. You don't need to separate them unless you prefer the look of them separated. I wouldn't worry too much about overcrowding though, it should be fine as it is until roots start peaking out of the bottom of the container. If you do decide to repot, I would suggest a cactus mix, as it is well draining which these guys need! Best of luck!

I feel like mines not growing? It’s tiny and I’ve repotted to something bigger a few months back and I feel like it’s still exactly the same? Are snake plants slow growers or am I doing something wrong lol

They can be super slow growers and it's kind of hard to see the new growth due to their form. This is especially the case if it's living in lower light conditions... They can tolerate low light but will certainly not thrive unless they're getting brighter

so, to me the plant you are showing looks like 2 plants... when will you separate them if you chose to do so? I'm asking because mine came in a small pot with a baby "snake" that is growing... should I separate them?

Cacti/succulent soil is what I try to go for with these as they don’t like staying too wet

Mine was sticking straight up when I first got it. As the days go by its starting to get curly like yours. Am I doing something wrong?

hmm I don't think I have any issues with mine, so if it looks like that then you're probably good to go! Best of luck!

Mine plant is about 2 feet tall and straight lol. I think it just depends on the plant itself 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love the video! I just bought one of these yesterday from a nursery. I have been wanting one for years but kept dragging my feet. It looks like I have another plant growing in it. It's also about to burst the nursery pot. (I have to repot it.) Any suggestions for choosing pots?

Oooh so exciting! They are honestly so chill and low maintenance. As long as the pot has drainage holes you should be in the clear! Enjoy your new plant baby!
