I am pretty sure it was Ultra Game’s intentions for Big Boss in Metal Gear NES and Snake’s Revenge to actually be him and not his body double since Kojima wasn’t involved with these games and existed way before MGS5. These were considered spinoff games that are probably canonical in their own way.
@HalDanGhor12 жыл бұрын
Without those NES games, the series wouldn't have existed though.

Yes, there are substancial differences... except the NES games, good or bad, gave the series a wider exposure (the MSX was sold in Japan only) and tapped into an even bigger market which made the series the juggernaut it is today. owenitzura also "forgot" to mention Hideo Kojima actually likes Snake's Revenge. Let's just take this game for what it is - an unrelated spin-off. "Ha, ha, ha. I have no weak point you can penetrate." o_O

Snake's Revenge and its Tiger LCD Handheld counterpart seem better than first Metal Gear NES version, because both Snake's Revenge versions have Metal Gear while first NES Metal Gear did not.

Snake's Revenge is not based on Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX) in any way. Snake's Revenge is a completely different game, not a port, but made from scratch. It is non-canon, but it still can be considered as a sequel to the NES version. It's plot, design, characters, etc are completely different than the one in Metal Gear 2.

The first "Metal Gear" on the NES is a port of the MSX version. Storyline is basically the same, but some of the layouts of the fortress have been changed. Another major change is that the Metal Gear itself doesn't appear on the NES version (You destroy a huge computer), while in the original MSX version, Metal Gear does have an appearance and you have to destroy it (However, it is innactive, only protected by two laser-shooting cameras).

Metal Gear for NES isn't completely different nor terrible. Sure it's lame that you don't fight Metal Gear, and they added the jungle and stupid mazes etc, but a lot of the floor layouts in the buildings are exactly the same as in the msx version and I think the general experience is pretty similar. It may be inferior to the msx version but it's still one of the greatest games of the NES era and one that had a huge impact on me as a 10 year old. And it has an awesome original soundtrack too.

I'm going to assume it was becuase of the NES's limited color palette, which paled in comparison to the MSX's. Honestly, in my opinion, if Solid Snake and his crew wore black, they'd look much better in this game.

They sure went with way more Bond-style story and intensity with the ending here. Stereotypical evil guy, ridiculous time limit before the world gets nuked. Kojima went on to write more meaningful story and deeper characters instead with Metal Gear 2 MSX, but the game's way, way easier than this.

I still have this game! I loved the boss music, and I loved the military train area. What was stupid though, is having Snake and his team running around in these bright red fatigues, esp in the jungle. Why not just put Christmas tree lights on? I think I'll go back, play Snake's Revenge, then play the original MG2 Solid Snake and decide which one I like more. It's been ages since I've played either one...
@lordgargamel41243 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but i believe Snakes Revenge was out before Solid Snake. Solid Snake was Kojima’s response to that. I dont think he appreciated Konami allowing a Metal Gear game with out his hand involved.

Also, even if Snake's Revenge never happened, there's still a good chance Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake wouldn't have came out in North America and Europe at the time anyway. The video game was very adult-oriented at its time, and Nintendo of America was very strict with its squeaky-clean image of video games (although a few titles slipped past NOA's radar). Also, the NES couldn't handle as many colors as the MSX could, not to mention NOA ruled their third-party support with an iron fist.

Well, MG wasn´t so serious back then. It was a great game for it´s time, but story wise and logic wise it was still a lot like the games of that era. It didn´t make any sense, the only point was that it was superhero and militairy like. From MGS 1 forward it really started to get deep and interesting.

This game propably isn't as good as the MSX Metal Gear's but the soundtrack is kickass! I like pretty much all the MGS games but I have to say that in MGS2 and 4 the story goes ridiculously over the top. But they're good games anyway. But if I were to put every Metal Gear game I've played in order of preference, it would be: MGS3, MGS, MGS4, MG2, MGS2, MG1, Snake's Revenge, NES MG
@ClickForOutkast15 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well. MGS got very complicated and mindfucking with the sequels, if you don't like that kind of things then MGS is the wrong series, but to be fair MGS had a veeeery deep plot and a message. So MGS1 isn't that different from the rest. I think MGS1 has the most plot twists.

False. The MSX games came first, and are the original games. The NES Metal Gear game is a poorly-done port, to which Hideo Kojima refers as "garbage". Snake's Revenge is a game Konami made without consulting Kojima. Both NES games are non-canon to the Metal Gear timeline. The MSX games are.
