For finch eggs - if you have a local aviary or other tropical greenhouse with birds (like butterfly conservatory), they may be a source. I worked at a butterfly conservatory and we were overrun with too many breeding finches, and probably would have sold some of the eggs for reptile food!

I just saw this video and wanted to share a story with everyone on egg eaters. We got an egg eating pair a few years ago. We did our research and knew we only had button quail eggs available around here, so we asked the seller (who I will not name, they were a popular online reptile retailer) to only give us a male and female pair who had both been on button quails or bigger. I emailed and called twice to confirm, and they said the boy was a little smaller but he could manage on buttons. Long story short, this wasn't true. He could not eat anything bigger than a finch egg. We struggled for a year to find a reliable finch egg supplier, but our guy could never sell us more than 6 every few months and that wasn't enough. In between, we had to tube feed - which of course Jonathan (the boy snake) hated and so did we. He would thrash his little tail around and it was difficult to even find a small enough tube for his little throat. After a year of him not getting any bigger and thus still not eating button quail eggs, we knew we couldn't give him a good enough life with us. So we reached out to Snake Discovery and they were kind enough to take them both in. I'm not sure if Mina was the one to lay this clutch, or if her name has been changed since then, but they helped us out during a really bad situation and I will be forever grateful. Mina laid a huge clutch shortly before I sent her and I didn't catch it in time, so they all deflated. So I'm so glad she's somewhere that if she lays another clutch they'll get to grow up there. If you're still reading, here's why I'm writing this: if you want to get an egg eating snake and you can't get one from Ed and Emily who are trustworthy, NEVER trust the snake will be large enough to eat larger eggs. The vast majority of these snakes are wild caught, and they take them at all different stages of life. Also, the males are significantly smaller than the females. So my advice would be only get one if you have access to finch or canary eggs, and request a female instead of a male. You could also just get a pair of finches and make sure they are laying BEFORE getting the snake(s), as they require a couple of eggs a week in my experience. This was our plan down the road when we were ready to breed them, but we couldn't find a laying pair for sale right away in our area. Thank you for reading, egg eaters make the best pet snakes I've ever owned if you can find their preferred food! 🙂

If you get finnes you really need to know how to care for them though before getting tge snakes or have another sure suplier. Sorry you where scammed that they could eat bigger eggs

Zebra finches will lay eggs as long as they have access to water, as they lay eggs during rainy season. So in captivity, that means all year around. We used to have them, I worked at a pet store who sell them, and they constantly lay eggs in the food bowl.. Removed eggs all the time, so talk to a local pet store, and hear if they might have some eggs available there...

@@Tsjestity There was no suggestion of mistreating animals, but if mice can be used as baby factories, finches can be used as egg factories. Feeder mice aren’t pets, even if they CAN be-so I see no reason why you couldn’t humanely keep finches as a food supply if you can do it for mice. At least the finches are laying unfertilized eggs. 🤷🏼‍♀️

For disinfectant, I highly recommend you look in to a product called Virkon! I love Iit for so many reasons. It comes as a powder or tablet that is mixed with water, you spray it on surfaces or soak things in it, it doesn't need to be rinsed, and you only need to keep most animals off it for 15 minutes. I'm assuming amphibians would be an exception, but I've never used it for anything but mammals. It's anti fungal, viral and bacterial. I use it to spray down the quarantine stalls in my horse barn, among other things, and it's been great because I can spray it straight on the wood and just leave it. It might solve the problem of the 3d printed caves.

When I saw the title I thought it was about that hognose (I think?) who ate a bunch of her eggs some years ago. I'd forgotten you also had actual egg-eating snakes

YES! They really are cute! I have been waiting for their video to come out or an announcement that the clutch wasn't good. Fortunately, that did not happen! Congrats if someone here gets one of these! They are so cute but also they eat finch eggs as babies. I can't wait to see more baby egg eaters in the future! Yay for babies!!!!! Also I was expecting this to be the clutch from patreon that was revealed! Also the stars that sometimes happen on their eggs are soo cute. ⭐✴⭐

Ophelia the egg eater. What an adorable name for a snake 🥰 ....that's so neat the make a hissing sound by rubbing their skin :) kinda reminds me of how some tarantulas "hiss" by rubbing their chelicerea together. Neat.

Thanks Kim for doing such a great job a filming for us!! I loved seeing it, that's something cool for when Ed and Emily are out of town or just too busy to film, the employees can do these kind of videos (if they feel comfortable doing so, and it can be done just like that, no faces, if they are more inclined to)

i am not in a place in my life where i can have pets or even pet snakes for various reasons, mostly due to time and space.. so to get my cuteness fix, this channel has been super helpful and has helped me through quarantine. first feeding of the noodles are my all time favorite cuteness overload

Despite not being a KZbinr, I appreciate her taking the initiative to film the process in Ed and Emily's absence. She didn't have to, but she put herself out there, and it wasn't half bad. The doodles were great, too.

I know you guys breed mice and rats for feeders, would you consider also having finches so that you could provide food for keepers in your area? Or would that be unfeasible with your space and time?
