Installing a Livestream Camera for our Alligator!!

I love that you set up a live stream! But I want to give you a warning to not leave the chat open but unmodderated. Because if people or bots start to spam a bunch of trash in there, you yourselves can get into trouble with Twitch. And I would hate to see that happen. A few options are: - Get a few mods in different timezones that can keep an eye on chat. - Disable the chat in the settings. - Put the chat into emote only mode.

Honestly I believe that almost any animal capable of thought is able to learn and respond to the people that take care of them. It might not be 'love' in our concept of the word, but in reptile language, if we make them feel safe, fed, and cared for, it's almost the same thing ^^

If you plan on having this up 24/7, please consider going into Twitch settings and making it so that users have to have a verified phone number to participate in chat! There's been strings of "hate bot raids" happening to streamers big and small for the last few months at the very least, and it could lead to your stream being taken down permanently!

Hey I just had an important thought, and I'm sure you've probably already thought of this but I thought I'd put it out there just in case, you may want to put up signs in the different places you're going to put cameras for live streams so that people know that they or their kids may be on a live stream if they enter certain areas, I also recommend offering viewing blind spots for people who would like to view without being on live stream and/or times of the day when the cameras are turned off and people can come in and view without being on live stream. Anyways, loving the stream, can't wait to possibly see more since I'm on the wrong side of the USA to visit. Hope y'all are well!

Hmm I was just looking back on her older videos, when they still thought she was a boy and she has grown a lot since then. I didn't notice as I was watching over time, but going back it's amazing. The love, enrichment and nourishment she has gotten from Ed and Emily has done amazing things for Rex. In one video Emily says she is not likely to grow, because of being stunted etc and she has, to everyone's delight, I am sure! Yet she is still small.

Well, it's still not the same as in the wild ofcourse. But atleast it's a lot better than the box they saved her from. I don't think she could go back into the wild anyhow, and she obviously has a good life. Maybe i'm overly critic, but i wish she had a bigger pool

@@Lilly_watermelonsugar Yeah they address in another video, I forget which one, that Rex wouldnt be able to survive long in the wild do to her stunted size meaning she'd be out competed by other alligators as well as her being pretty bad at hunting, and too social with humans. Staying in captivity is really her best bet unfortunately and theyre doing a great job giving her the best life they can. I do agree that her pool should be bigger though. I understand space and cost limits them a bit, but hopefully in the future after they've been able to build their finances back up they can upgrade her again! I'd love to see her in a pool that she could really swim around in.

Be careful with Livestream commenters. Some are nasty. Maybe a timed chat, or emote only could help? But most SnakeDiscovery viewers are very polite, so maybe it will be okay.

What I have really enjoyed with Tex in her new enclosure is her ability to float and swim fully submerged in the deep pool. I watched the video of when she moved in and wondered how big a change that was. Not as much as when you introduced her to her own pool but definitely different.

Even if you need to get another camera, get one in the back where you can stream snake programs. Then schools can log in when they can’t have you come in. Then you could have schools from all over the country get you to do programs. Just couldn’t let them handle the snakes. But could also show animals that are not safe for programs

Aww, Rex really does love her mama! I adore Rex, but I don’t think I have ever seen her being so cute as when she was behind Emily during the last part of this video! That was really special! I’m looking forward to being able to go and see Rex live whenever I want to!! This is a huge bonus for those of us who live in a different country and can’t come visit your zoo and Rex in person! I also can’t wait to see what other animals you point one of the other cameras at!! What a generous gesture by the company who sent you all of those cameras and equipment! Those cameras are pricey enough, especially when you have just completely renovated your new zoo and started your new business. If you guys are like most people, all of that work, construction, building new enclosures, all from scratch, I mean, completely renovating that large space and then setting up an entire zoo! Also, the purchase of some of your animals. All of that has to be very expensive and would make most people broke!! So, I would think that buying a new surveillance system, with 6 cameras, that would not be in most people’s budgets at this early stage of your new business! I’m really happy for you guys. When I see Ed and Emily together it makes me soooo cozy. They're legit meant to be together. It seems like Ed always knows how to do everything, he is so talented. I've read many times where zoo keepers say many animals in zoos enjoy watching people. It becomes a favorite part of their entertainment. Or at least an expected part of their day. During the lock down and disasters like Hurricane Katrina more intelligent animals became depressed and bored without the entertainment of watching people.

Your personalities compliment each other so well. You're playful and loving. I opened a TWITCH account just to watch Rex. Rex’s fans have been chatting all night…well night for US, there were people from around the world. It’s very cool that Rex has a worldwide audience…Wales, England, UK, France, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Slovakia, Romania, Austria, India, Norway, South Africa, Germany, Singapore, the Netherlands, Philippines, Sweden, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Brazil, and so many states…I’m sure I missed some but unbelievably those were all represented. Edit: The gnome was creepy staring right back at us. There were 500-600 people watching a sleeping alligator and a creepy gnome listening to music ever since you did this video then those watching got even bigger. I love this stream.

visited the stream at about 5:30 AM (I'm in CST too) and there were people from lots of places like Australia constantly asking what time was for her, so maybe add a visible clock to the corner of the stream? EDIT: Also there was quite young ones sharing their ages on there, so it may have to be switched to emote-only mode. if you want to keep chat, you are going to need mods. Twitch is a dangerous place for as you on people some of your audience is.
