As a Judoka this lever thing was really informative. We do all this on instinct but nobody ever put it so clearly into words for me. The one thing I would suggest is to learn to break grips with one hand like in Judo. Its another tool in your toolbox and comes in very handy
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
Really interesting I was talking with a high level judoka tonight and I discussed this concept with him because intuitively it would make sense for judo as well, then we got into the conversation of breaking posture and having to break their grip with one hand, since apparently you can’t break with two hand in judo anymore I guess.
@sugarpill60063 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed really experienced Judo players do these things instinctively. Breaking posture and off balancing is exactly what is being taught here. It’s also the key for stand up before any throw can actually be executed. Fight for grips, grip break to maintain dominant position, control the other guys posture, off balance/kazushi opponent before throwing.

@christopherpakney85423 жыл бұрын
Between you and Clark Gracie, my game has grown with all of these tools. Thanks for the videos and tips! I'm a lanky 6'6" 200 lbs and really flexible so I've been using the lasso and/or spider guard a lot. When it's set up right with the sleeve/collar grips and deep lasso, it can really frustrate and stall out even higher belts, even more so due to my size mismatch. So many sweeps, attacks and ability to control tempo and stall from here. Such an important concept here to keep the position fluid by switching grips and transitions. Of course, when I'm not set up properly or transition poorly, I get smashed extra hard for the trouble. I take it as a sign that it works. :)
@JonThomasBJJ3 жыл бұрын
With that build you are going to be very frustrating for people to deal with lol. Yeah deep lasso is great too, I have been using it a lot more recently especially when my opponents posture is lower and I can set it, but if they are up taller then I like the shallow lasso collar sleeve and dlr style to attack and break them down. Ultimately mixing all the guards together is the most effective in my opinion.
