Snakes are beautiful and positive creatures for a garden. Love you supported the good ones. I was taught if you have snakes then you need them cause they're eating the mice and other things you don't want around. Snakes are scaredy cats so just remember they are scares and you can live a good life with them as helpers! We had a snake that would sun bathe on top of vibes leaves which were about waist height close to our gate and for a month he was there almost everyday we could watch him close up and he never bothered us. Being on a farm or homestead teaches you to appreciate and accept nature more openly and it really enriches your life💕

Something fun for your lil ones to grow is celery. Cut the bottom off your celery bunch & put 3 toothpicks in it and set it on top of a cup with water in it. I did it and in two days my celery was growing. Keep adding water as needed to cover the bottom daily. It's really neat to watch it grow. Then plant it and grow your own celery.

No, just no, absolutely not. I am a farm girl but I don't do snakes of any kind. We had a house once that had a den in the yard and my cats would kill the babies and bring them as presents and I just noped right out of that.

I was so incredibly relieved, after reading the title of this video, to see your INTELLIGENT and RATIONAL approach to the snakes and skins you are finding. Snakes play a vital role in our already fragile ecosystem. If a homeowner doesn't know what they have found or is concerned call a professional (like you did) do not grab a shovel and just start killing an animal that, most likely, is NO threat to you. I understand some (many) people have a fear of snakes but most of the time they just want to get out of the way. In a property that has been empty it wouldn't be at all unusual for them to have found a good spot to den for the winter. Garter snakes sometimes den in large numbers over winter. They will keep the mice and rats out of your chicken and goat feed. You already know all this, not everyone does. If it wasn't for these beneficial animals the planet would be overrun with vermin that really do pose a health threat. Sorry to rant a bit, love your farming adventure series :) Its fun to watch the sudden homestead come to fruition. Hugs from PA :)

Yeah, I don't like them but, they serve a purpose. For people with dogs, contact a local dog hunting club and see if they can direct you to someone in your area who can snake break your dog. It's not pretty but it will keep the dog alive and you will know if there is snake around and avoid the area. We've had to kill one in 5 years of hunting. It was very strange. The rattlesnake came out of the river. My son saw it. It headed away from them so he didn't react. A couple of minutes later the dogs bolted away and he looked. The rattlesnake was heading straight for them. It didn't look right. It wasn't shedding it's skin but it was odd looking. It got about 5 feet away and my son shot it. They cut the head off, buried it, still no sign of shedding and looked at the body. It looked like the thing was being eaten from the outside in. Strange green colors on it. Very strange.

Jamerill, you're doing so well with your Sudden Homestead! Every time you add another component to your plan, you are building resiliency. I especially love the hand pump. I live in a small town in northern lower Michigan, and our power goes out several times a year, sometimes for days, not hours. High winds, blizzards, thunderstorms, etc., are all cause for people to fill their bathtubs in anticipation. Have you ever noticed that we may have gallons of water in storage and don't need them. So we dump them or use them so we can bottle up fresh water, and then a storm comes and BLINK! Out go the lights and your hands automatically feel dirty- but there's no water. Yikes! Have a blessed day!

We had a big yellow snake slide up into the attic when shower backer board was removed for a re-tile project! I've never seen that brother run so fast or yell so much! THAT WAS INSIDE THE HOUSE! (He wasn't alone but the only one that freaked out! Haha) I have this deal with nature.. if you should be outside then stay outside! Snake knowledge helps with the fear. Knowing colors, head shapes, biters vs constrictors does change fear. I fear baby snakes because they can be fast and worse if venomous. They can be like toddlers that don't know to stop biting down.
