Fantastic Snakes to keep. I had a pair for some years. The male was pretty big and had a wonderful temperament. The female was much more nervous and would bite at every opportunity. I only experienced the musk once, and strangely that was from the calm and friendly male.

A beautiful colubrid. The entire ratsnake family, world wide is extremely captivating. Another fantastic video.

What a beautiful snake, even entering shed! His pattern is amazing. It was interesting to see how active and responsive he was. I'm always excited to see more of the rat snakes.

In my opinion these guys may be the most rewarding colubrid to keep. They can be amazingly tolerant of Interaction as long as they are given respect. And they are probably some of the most Intelligent and responsive animals I have had the chance to work with. They certainly command a different level of understanding when it comes to the animals behaviour. Some people say they will make you bleed at every chance. Personally I find them to shy away from biting.

I like aggressive snakes. The more aggressive the better for my liking. That’s why I love Louisiana’s brolski kings, brooks, speckled and black king snakes. Plus they get really really big in the south. People say 3 to 5 feet my ass. King snakes in the south, you never know how big they are. 7 feet is common for the Cajun kings.

I've waited for this video so long! Thank you very much Chaz. I've only found these online occasionally here state side and they always command a high price. I cannot wait to have one of my own. This will probably be my next species once I have the space for it in my new home. After that is my Ferrari reptile the Black tail Cribo.

Very informative episode, I really want a king rats now, they do cost about $400 per baby in the states. They used to be cheaper many years ago but I guess they weren't high in demand then

Great snake - kept one for a while. She was super alert, didn't like to be seen (you could see how visual she was from behaviour) she didn't musk much, but hissed like a boxer when she bit me (which was regular) and she had decent teeth on her. She was fast. Sold her to someone who wanted to breed, and she's now a mother :) did you mention the keeling on the scales? Most snakes feel smooth, these fellas are rough. Thanks for the video, and stay safe :)

I’ve noticed over the years while trying to calm snakes down like this is the sooner you get them to realize nothing actually will hurt them even if it grabs them the better. For instance I will sort of lower its neck into my other hand and gently do a bit of restraining yet allowing the snake to burrow back or fourth so it knows it can always get free. Lowering its head to other surfaces, other items to taste, smell whatever lol, then now and then inching my hand up to its neck and head allowing it to burrow through my hand almost like when you help a snake shed, sneaking a rub hear and there. Just seems to me the faster you get it to know nothing in this interaction will hurt it. Otherwise I feel they are just sitting on your hand, wondering what the fuck every single thing near them is. Now I could be way wrong about these guys. I’ve done that with lots of snakes though, doesn’t always work. Sure reminds me of a bull snake.
