If you ride rim brakes in the rain, you get them contaminated with oil and other nasties from the road, also be careful when cleaning/oiling your bike. I replace my rim brake blocks every 6 months minimum. Look after your brakes and they will look after you.😀

Rim brakes in the rain are no fun at all. I never push it in the wet, and least of all on rim brakes. Gotta get used to having no response for the first second or two when using rim brakes in the wet. In the dry they should work well tho.

Agree! lived in Zurich, CH area and Copenhagen, DK and currently live in greater Malibu area. I have to say for year round cycling the Santa Monica Mountains CA area (where this ride was recorded) has a great mix of mountains, smooth roads, flats sections with shoulders if need to stop. In the winter its common to run into pro teams and riders getting in the miles for base (e.g. I read that Chris Froome was here this past winter, and Geraint Thomas last year) . I like road cycling here more than in Switzerland bc in Switzerland, the car drivers get angry if riders arent in single file (the law) and will cut close to cyclists to scare them or honk horns when on your rear wheel. It takes the fun out of group rides for the 3-4 months when the weather is good enough to ride. Here, just as many if not more cyclists on the road, less road rage from cars, and can ride 12 months of the year with the hottest month only averaging 80F for highs with low humidity
@dailydriven9878
@dailydriven9878 3 жыл бұрын
@@jpslayermayor9293 I agree almost entirely, except it was 95+ degrees just a few days ago in the Samo mountains. You should follow all road laws (like staying in the lane, not crossing over the double yellow and riding single-file in small groups) if you value your life. Even in California.

Couple of things: 1. Like Safa says, these guys have the miles in their legs. The more/longer you ride, the easier it gets. 2. Their bikes are no joke either. No way I'd be able to rush 100 miles on my 6061 Aluminium commuter, whereas my restomod Reynolds 531 road bike can gobble up the miles. I'm guessing the next step up to some of these carbon bikes is equally as big.

Yeah Iive and ride here including that road in video, I think not to be sexist but when you have group of women and men a lot of women are afraid of corners (at least to my eye as former ski racer and motocross and current cycling ). This road is deceptively steep from the gopro view and with the corners being blind much of the time it can seem frightening to less experienced or without the nerve. I kept hearing the brake dragging like you and and it annoyed me bit as well (inefficiency). I kept thinking I would have been pulling away from this group just coasting with my head down in drops.

The risk of descending in the hoods is braking too fast and losing grip... Hands go flying, you go flying. In the drops your hands aren't going anywhere.
