Hey CP I just subscribed a few days ago after watching your first Craftsman toolbox video. I love your positive upbeat attitude and the fact that you don’t get caught up in all the social media drama like so many others. You’re about my age too, and kind of remind me of my best friend that passed away a few years ago. You put out a lot of great info, and I appreciate it.

Inherited a 12point 1/4in standard snap on chrome swivel sent from mu pops. Theyre aboot 20 years old and they are one of my absolute go to socket sets. The 5/16 is where alot of my jobs start and end. Liked em so much i happily paid aboot 500 for the metric set. Also have the 3/8 impact swivel set. Snap on does make a damn fine swivel.

I’ve got the GearWrench 1/4 chrome swivels and the Expert (Mac) 3/8 impact swivels. I don’t use them daily by any means, but they’ve held up pretty well. The Expert do have a pretty thick collar that gets in the way occasionally, but they’ve been well so far.

You know Jimmy Making It Work,he learned his lesson on the cheap impact universal sockets.He bought a cheap 1/2 drive set on Amazon for $65.00 and broke the 21mm already and the 19mm was next to break.No lifetime warranty on them and replaced them with a Grey Pnuematic set.I have had bad luck with the Cornwell impact swivel.Broke on me using a 3/8 impact on them even with the replacements

The only universal; ie double jointed chrome sockets I like are the Snap Ons in 1/4”. Welded pins and don’t bind up. There may be other good ones out there, but the Snap Ons are the best I’ve used by a country mile. As for swivels, ie the wobblies, the Koken Z series chrome adapters are great imo as are the Matco pinless adapters (Snap On and Mac/Proto also very nice). As far as swivel impacts are concerned, Snap On, Matco, SK all used and all great. Sunex impact swivels also owned and are decent and cost friendly but not as compact as the others mentioned above. Both the neck of the socket end that goes into the joint and the socket end itself are longer than the others causing clearance issues and they wear out / break at the joint more easily. Don’t have much experience with others other than Carlyle and old USA Craftsman chrome universals. Both are pretty good. Carlyle’s are similar to Gearwrench. But neither can touch Snap On in this regard.
@asmautollc2 жыл бұрын
Oh and totally forgot I own the Astro pinless swivels in 1/2” Metric as well the Gearwrench 1/2” pinless swivels in SAE, both impacts. The Astros I don’t use often but I really like them and price wise they are a steal. The Gearwrenches are just ok. They are basically an ok Chinese knock off of the USA made Matco pinless.

That’s crazy, I always was a huge fan of Mac’s finish. I love their finish with the way they engrave their logo. Imo max sockets are the best looking sockets but I get why people would want the shinnier brand. I guess it looks more appealing when you open a box up

CP, tell me something.. I've been a diesel tech for 5 years now and have never bought a wobble socket, I feel like it's a waste of money because they're so expensive and you can only use the socket that's on there. I've always used a universal joint and put whatever socket I wanted to.. deep, shallow, 6 pt., 12pt.... is there any pro or con to buying the wobble sockets over just buying a tool truck universal joint and putting whatever socket you want on there?
@CPthetooladdict2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely the first time a socket comes zinging off that adapter and cracks you in the face you will have a ah-ha moment!! Lol plus they have better angle and clearance mite not be a huge factor in the diesel truck world but it makes a difference in automotive

The biggest bonus other than sockets not flying off and having to constantly change sockets on them is OAL. Stand a shallow swivel socket next to a shallow socket on a swivel adapter and it's night and day. It's the difference between being worthless and a life saver working In the automotive world.
