Doc, you are the gold standard of tool related videos on KZbin. You have such an incredible perspective and insight in to something that you clearly have a great passion for, I share that passion but have few people to relate that to. It's wonderful to listen to you talk and share your wealth of knowledge. Thank you for what you do.

I think SnapOn has the best grips on their handles 💯

I think snap on has one of the best engineering teams in the tool market. From the ergonomics of even the most basic of tools, to the incredible smoothness of the ratchets. I think snap on has the best fit and finish in the industry. With 100 years of marketing tools and how ever many years they have of manufacturing their own tools, they certainly aren’t making junk.

Everything you said is pure bullshit. Companies like Knipex, Stahlwille, Bahco, Hazet, Etc are all significantly older, and make better tools. People that fanboy Snap On haven't even tried to bother looking outside of a Snap On catalog. Snap On loves people like you because they can sell their horribly overpriced tools, and boxes to people who know no different and refuse to know no different. With over 160 years of experience German and Austrian companies are far above what anything Snap On can even make. Snap On is certainly making junk.

@@svn5994 Thanks for watching Svn. But "everything" is a pretty broad stroke of the paint brush. I love Knipex and a many of their specialty pliers. And tens of pounds of Klein Tools. My go-to large pliers is zbahco, and my big adjustable is a Wright. I love Ridged pipe wrenches and am even happy with general purpose General tools. And as far as Snap On price, I think it affects people because they want the SO but maybe don't need the SO. So high price angers them. I have come to appreciate when a company pushes the envelope by making nuanced changes that most will never notice. The price is an issue, but hardly out of line if you really need the Snap On experience. If price were a non-issue, then everyone would be making Snap On-like tools.

@@svn5994 first off, I don’t buy snap on full price. Second, snap on makes some damn good tools, fit and finish is absolutely beautiful. Also, bahco is a snap on company.

@@lastbesttool it’s always funny to see people whine about snap on prices. Like, if you’re using that tool to MAKE money, then what’s it matter? It pays for itself.

@@_P0tat07_ you must think “make money” means something different than the rest of us. The problem is that you don’t make any more money using a Snap-on screwdriver versus s Stanley one, and often times by the time you realize which tools aren’t necessary to buy premium, you’ve already spent a ton of money. This goes for most trades and professions.

I love snap on Quality USA hand tools. Im disappointed by matco for having majority rebranded tawianese tools. Their USA stuff still rocks. I do appreciate that cornwell still makes USA hardline hand tools. I do agree that the electronic side of snap on is garbage and not worth the money. They are not much better than what is sold elsewhere and most likely made in the same factory as harbor freight in china. Where the hand tools are engineered for the man who uses them every day and beats them hard, made in the USA, made with quality materials and factories, and will last a long time with a lifetime guarantee to back it up

The thing with snap on is you buy the tool once, if the tool breaks you warranty for a new one. That's where the price comes in your paying for the replacement as well as the original. You're also paying for all the R&D. As a professional it's the way to go.

I love snap on. But every other quality tool company has the same offering in warranty. Some are even better.

Snapon tools used to be extremely cool , they used to make things ( like the small boxes they made in the 50's-70's) that nobody else did. Now everyone is trying to do what they do, and they're not quite as interesting anymore. They can't really change anything either because their customers have expectations for the layout and format of their ratchets. Their ratchets were some of the most beautiful ratchets around next to the Flying V Craftsman, but practically everybody models their ratchet after Snapon these days and they don't have quite the aesthetic advantage these days. I think that's part of the problem, you can get a Taiwanese ratchet that looks the same with the same tooth count, and it's too easy to compare and throw hate when a much less expensive alternative seems the same on paper.
@itainteasy

for simplicity sake... if the Snap On tool is $3 and the Taiwanese tool is $1 dollar I have to expect the Taiwanese tool to fail more than 3x to make it worth my money this equation wasn't always this way in 2023, most of the time 4x failures is not the case, and i don't usually replace a failed too with the same thing, I go find one that either offers something more aesthetic or seems like it would be less likely to fail based on how i just experienced a fail. I might even pay 3x for something truly ground breaking or extremely aesthetically pleasing and take the risk with having to ship it over to germany or japan and maybe have a warranty honored.

I will add one thing to this which to me seems 100% right and. That is Snap-On does not make the mistakes other tool truck companies make. They don’t rebrand other manufacturers tools to say Snap-On and jack the price. There are some Snap-On rebranded items I know this but generally the price is comparable with original manufacturers

That's what's nice. You can buy Blue-Point which is manufactured overseas, but only Snap-On branded tools are true Snap-On quality tools designed and made in the US.

Forgive me, what point was made in this video? Coyle Tool did an interview with a young tech discussing the shop dynamics involving Snap-on. IMO, the reasons for buying their tools almost exclusively are clearly outlined by the young man, and it's not necessarily a pretty picture. Folks should watch it.
