Almost all my tools are Snap-On. I buy them because I like them. For the most part, they are great tools although not always better than some of the cheaper alternatives. Over the years I have also came across some duds. I wish they were not as expensive as they are, but these days the lower end brands aren’t cheap anymore either. I enjoy my Snap-On tools and keep buying them.

You couldnt be more wrong sir. You have many options and built to spec options from tier 1 suppliers. I know i worked for apex tool group. As far as snap on proprietary alloy its a shame. Take a sample to any lab they will tell you every single thing in that sample and the percentages. How do i know i was the wuality engineer at apex tool group/ danaher. I worked very close with supply chain and the metalurgist lab in our facilities. Also before you say im a fan boy I own and am a fan of snap on im also a realist that likes actual facts. Words like proprietary, cutting edge, coveted, state of the art, precision, and many other words are just that sales pitches. Snap on and many other companies use this pitch bondhus has "protatnium". You can sample any piece of metal and find out every single thing about the make up and hardness. Please be more specific and know what youre actualing talking about sir no disrespect.

I find it funny that there are people who actually believe that Snap-on and ICON are made in the same factories. The word is that Harbor Freight had hired former Snap-on employees who had a hand in designing the ICON line of tools. On the box that my ICON ratchet came in it says "DESIGNED BY ICON IN THE USA MANUFACTURED IN TAIWAN". It looks to me like they taped a blank piece of paper to a drawing board, placed a Snap-on tool on said piece of paper and traced around the outer profile. They then finished by penciling in the ICON name. The packaging should read "DESIGN COPIED IN THE USA MANUFACTURED IN TAIWAN". I don't think that the ICON tools are bad but they are not the equivalent to Snap-on. They are fine for the hobbyist, DIYer or secondary professional use. They'll get an apprentice technician up an running until he can afford better tools. They can easily be exchanged not if, but when the tool fails.

The so called Snap On employee is this kid named Otie I forget his last name but he claims he worked on a tool truck for 9 years, he is their head of product development and engineering. He looks to be no more than about 23 years old. There is a KZbin video interviewing him at SEMA.

What are your thoughts on the insanely overpriced Chineseum Snap-on peddles under the Bluepoint name? Combination wrenches and pliers to name a few items.

how about tool boxes and scan tools? just got a icon t7 for 350 like 2 weeks ago and its already paid for itself. it can do regens and tamper tests for reductant systems. updated to 2025 for all makes. it lives inside my icon toolbox, alongside my set of snap on wrenches, snap on ratchets, and snap on sockets. you just gotta know what is worth getting off the truck, and what is not. a tool box or scan tool, nowadays, is not.

Calm down big guy! Not everyone can afford Snap-on. Icon is lifetime warranty just like snap-on. I own Mac, Matco, Snap-on Cornwell...etc and Icon. They all do the job! I am shocked, though, that a wrench that is overall bigger than the snap-on weighs more! WTH! hahahaha!

It is barely larger than the Snap on wrench which shows the difference in alloys used to make them, I know this is tough for the HOBO Freight crowd to understand. The Craftsman is just shy of a half ounce heavier than the Snap on, the working areas are thicker, because of the alloy choice.

@@mustangecoboosthpp3869 I'm a 34 year experience diesel mechanic (21 of those years in the Army as a 63S Heavy Wheel Vehicle Mechanic). I know the difference. I used tools every day for my job. Tool trucks are a racket period! I have spent many hard earn dollars on them so you cant convince me otherwise. Is it convenient,..Yes, but these tools carry the same lifetime warranty. Lets agree to disagree. If you prefer Snap-On tools and spending WAAAAAY more than what their worth, that's on you. I'll stick to what does the job well and saves me a little money, like Harbor Freight and many others.

You don’t need to buy Snap-on or Harbor Freight only. Those are not your only options. You can get quality tools that don’t break the bank pretty much anywhere. I can’t speak for their wrenches, but I love the Gearwrench ratchets and sockets I have at home.

Every Hobo Freight lover uses the same excuse “it has a good warranty.” So does Snap-On, but you don’t have to use it anywhere as often as the HF warranty. My dad, who has decades of professional wrenching under his belt, tells me “the best warranty is the one you don’t have to use.” If you’re going to HF every few days to warranty a tool, you’re not ahead of the game versus buying better quality tools that are a little more expensive. There are plenty of tool options out there that are good quality and don’t break the bank. My work tool box isn’t full of Snap-On stuff, but the stuff I have is quality and hasn’t given me an issue.

You're not regularly warrantying anything Icon branded, it's good quality stuff, just happens to come from HF (And frankly, most of their non-bottom of the barrel stuff is at LEAST as good as most brands people buy. And I can't tell you how many Daytona branded jacks and jackstands there are in shops, track paddocks, etc). And considering you can be out the door with the entire Icon tool catalog for a literal fraction of the price, even if you had to use it once or twice a year, I think it beats pissing away hundreds or thousands of dollars to the tool man every month. The problem with Snap On to me, as someone who regularly uses it non-professionally but never had to pay for any of it either, is that the cost difference is so great that the math to make it "worth" buying virtually always isn't worth it. And I'm someone who regularly gets shit for having expensive tastes in anything and everything, bare minimum isn't good enough, but when you're paying multiple times more... I would rather buy a new tool outright once or twice before I paid more up front because I'd still be ahead. And I don't make money using them, every expense is me getting deeper in the hole. I like the full Snap On stuff I have the luxury of using, but compared to everything I've ever personally owned or anything else in the tool box, it's a hard sell. Especially considering most mechanics I know are in the ~$70k range if they're decent and reasonably paid, but almost all of them owe tool trucks $10k or more. That just outright lowers your income post-tax, especially in a state with high sales tax like mine (WA).

3 types of guys on the snap on truck every single week bud. Either making a payment, about to make a payment, or warranty and repair. You can act like snap on doesn't fail their warranty service center putting you on hold for 30 minutes tells a different story

This debate has been going on for decades, and there's no end in sight. It has nothing to do with tools. Its about feelings and emotions, and that's why it will never end. Why? Its not about getting to the truth. They don't WANT SnapOn to make a better tool. And that's not something you can compete with. In the video you said how soft the metal was in the Icon. I bought a set of Icon wrenches just to try them and have a backup. Softest tool I've ever used. In the video you said that the formula for the alloy SnapOn uses is a secret. That's not entirely true. SnapOn may not release the specifics, but its very easy to find out. Go to a large Jewelry store or a place that buys and sells gold and silver. They usually have assay machines. Give them a wrench, and for a small fee, they'll test it and give you a printout of every metal in the alloy, along with percentages. It only takes a minute.
