Your bias to Snap on always bleeds through on the reviews, and just say that! So some young guy doesn’t blow 1/4 to 1/2 his paycheck listening to “Doc” okay? Influencers whether you like it or not have a responsibility to the audience that made them “viable”.

@@avernvrey7422 it has nothing to do with cost, I’m a believer in tools making money; most of my tools are SnapOn but not because of the brand. The function is what matters and being mostly US made. And if you are buying a tool with a high price tag, but without the function and without research, what do you get? I’ve watched his reviews and the Snapon Truck etiquette one made my point clear.

So, like every video?… he’s made entire videos about how expensive snap on is and talked about preference…. Also, I gotta ask why aren’t people expected to be responsible for their own choices? I don’t give a darn what some influencer says aside from to see a more hands on demo of something I’m already curious about. Otherwise it’s entertainment… I’m really not trying to be insulting, but I’m scratching my head as to how you get people to make better life decisions because of a mid sized youtube channel… at what point do you believe an adult is responsible for their own actions?

If Knipex would have had larger pads it may have been better. I thank it's difficult to have only one tool do all the different hose clamps safely. Thanks Doc great subject

The pliers I use most for hose clamps are the Irwin. Not really hose clamp pliers but they work really well. I have those knipex and some craftsman and generic ones like the snap on ones. I almost never use them except the knipex for single wire clamps. I don’t think he has reviewed the Irwin pliers. My friend is a senior tech on the other side of the country and mostly sticks to snap on. He has a drawer full of the Irwins I use

Interesting... can't even remember last seeing a wire 'Corbin' type hose clamp. They introduced a lot of 'cold flow' issues leading to excessive/permanent deformation of rubber & polymer line. Same goes for those pricy do it all miracle 'county fair' wire clamp forming gimmicks... assuming you could ever find room enough for the 'installation' of one.

As far as hose clamp pliers go I've found that you really need multiple styles to have good access when removing a variety of different clamps in different locations. I own basically all of the styles you had on the table. One will work great on this clamp in this location and then suck terribly on the clamp at the other end of that hose because it's at a different angle or something stupid. I bought both the 10" knipex styles (the spring clamp one and the click clamp one) hoping they would be the end all to hose clamp pliers and unfortunately the cobra platform they're designed on actually causes a ton of accessibility issues unless your clamp is out in a wide open area. For someone that does the same types of vehicles/jobs every day you can probably find the ones that work best for your use and stick with them but if your work is more diverse you'll probably end up with all of them hahaha.

Going to save this for the morning but this is timely. Just had to change my fancy washing machines inlet valves. It has 6 small hoses and solenoids with small double ring spring clamps. My locking Knipex failed. My Astro cable style also failed. I have an old rusty made in USA KD Manufacturing No. 429 that actually worked. I just ordered an appliance specific pair ERP-KP2 as these clamps are small . Reviews are all over on them but these clamps were such a PITA I don't want to go through that again. They also work on dishwasher clamps.

Those Tite-Reach and Handee clamps do work well for that as long as there is access. With all the different tool designs, it makes me wonder if yet a better tool is still to be made. Or perhaps time to retire the clamps.

I actually really like the Eastwood hose clamp pliers. It doesnt have the flexibility of the knipex, but it has the stability of grab that the ones that broke easy a few videos in this series ago do, while also being rock solid in materials and structural design. I have been unhappy with any other hose clamp pliers ive tried including the knipex ones.

You should test the hose clamp pliers on the flat band style hose clamps not the Corbin round style. AST SCP2014 spring clamp pliers copied by many are probably the most useful flat band type hose clamp pliers on the market.

It's the first time I would actually choose the Snap-on tool rather than the Knipex version. And yeah the jaw inserts are too small for the advertised clamp size capacity (up to a diameter of 70 mm in this case).

Yeah, I've been considering the Knipex hose clamps but this video is good, really shows the differences in design. The SnapOns have really been well thought out, whereas the Knipex seem like the just retro fitted some holding teeth to the existing Cobra design. I don't think I want them anymore as they're pretty expensive like 3x the cobra price.
@carpediem5232
@carpediem5232 Ай бұрын
Seems like the Cobra design does actually pretty well, it is just the holding teeth that would need to be a bit wider for some hose clamp types.

I have a pair of the cheapies like you shown and they are good but sometimes the clamp will shootout and (ya better have ur safety googles on) cause it shoots with a vengence. Then i have a pair of the large ones you showed with the handle and then you have aremote clamp on like a foot of control wire which are not bad but sometimes they cannot get into a small area Lets not forget i paid like almost 200 bucks for them and that was a lil rich but in a bind they work ok. I was thinking about buying a pairof the Knipex ones but the more i look @ those lil cups I am turned off by the design . I might just have to splurge and pick-up the SnapOn HCP11 pliers but I am still on the fence. I know one thing I aint gonna get shot again with a one of those round wire clamps , cause they are dangerous and you could lose and eye .......

I'm conflicted about those cheap ToolWiz hose clamp pliers. I think they preform much better than a regular pair of pliers or even Channellocks, but they can also be misleading on how well they hold leading to violent spring-outs. We expect that when using non-hose clamp pliers, but tend to trust the dedicated hose clamp pliers more. So it's like many things where easy access to a substandard tool can take the user further into the danger zone before catastrophe.

Have you tried the new USA made cresent/adjustable wrenches?… I have a some of the “old ones” and haven’t compared them side by side on the truck. The USA made ones look like they might not allow for as much clearance? Off topic I know but I’d appreciate any feedback… thanks for everything!

The Knipex design is confusing to me. I suppose from the company POV it makes sense, they already have the cobra design so to extend it with the "molars" is likely only an incremental cost. Still, it doesn't feel like the right design for the use case. I added the HCP11s to my Snap On wish list.
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool Ай бұрын
I first saw the HCP11 on the Snap On truck when it only had the red handle option. I played with it for a minute and decided the locking mechanism was too wonky. But now that it''s available in green handles, I gave it another shot and turns out, the mechanism is still wonky, but the green handles made me give the tool the benefit of the doubt.
