Houston DTV Transition Cutoffs 6/12/09

In July 2011, Japan had a unique twist on a digital switchover. Initial plans called for the analog transmitters to be switched off at noon on the day of the switchover (July 24), but technical reasons prohibited the transmitters from being switched off in the daytime and required them to be shut down at midnight. The networks chose to end regular programming on the analog signals at noon, however, and that is why the blue-colored information screens were broadcast on the analog signals for almost twelve hours on end.

When I was nine years old (at the time of the DTV transition in 2009) I only watched Channel 45 (KXLN) Univision's Analog shutdown at night (Yes that channel is a Latino channel, and I am a Latino). But checking the other channels like channel 2, 13, etc. I have never seen those channels go off the air before, I never thought much of the analog shutdown at the time, I thought it was all about changing an old satellite, but now I know why. R.I.P. Analog TV

I love the one with the preacher feature channel. The cutoff is perfect. Seems like the TV station was clueless on what the station engineer was about to do. At least he followed the correct instructions from the FCC. At the time of this post, ATSC version 3.0 is coming online. I love it better than ATSC version 1.0. Yay, the future of 4K broadcast is finally here.

i live in the 3rd or 2nd biggest broadcast area in the country by population, the area served by these channels shown. they are all still only broadcasting the main stations in 720p. maybe some of the x.2 or x.3 stations are 1440 or 4k, but i don't watch them.
