The worst thing about Snarky Puppy is only getting to experience a song for the first time once! Larnell is my favorite drummer of theirs.

A group of Grammy winners collected to that have great success on their own playing together. I fell in love with them when I saw them in NC and in Canada at Jazz festival. The new album is outstanding

Headphones, I believe is so everyone can hear each other evenly. In a room that size they would drown each other out.

I saw them twice, and the cool thing about Snarky is that it's always unexpected. Each time, they play differently depending on the tour team or the mood. What an experience!

They met at North Texas University and, once together, set up shop in Brooklyn.

You were wondering about the bass line during Court Henry's keyboard solo: it's actually being triggered by Larnell Lewis's kick drum. I think a lot people think the drums stop at the beginning of the shop, but they don't. Larnell literally doesn't get a rest during the whole song. This even more impressive when you know the backstory about this album... Larnell was a last minute replacement drummer for them. He didn't hear any of the songs until he was on the plane ride over to Denmark from the U.S. He only got to practice with the band for about 8 hours before going into these live recording sessions.

Another KZbin reactor, a professional drummer, called it "that ridiculous ostinato" 😂 Like a lot of the figures in this number, it's stacked: Larnell Lewis has it on the kick drum, plus Michael League on bass guitar and I _think_ the keyboardist you see at the very top is also playing on keys. The unison is _uncanny_ !
@pjeastwood9241
@pjeastwood9241 5 ай бұрын
Um no, the bass is NOT triggered! Michael League is playing bass and Bill Laurence (peach colored shirt) is doubling the kick drum on the piano.

Saw Snarky Puppy in DC about a week ago. It was a great show although atypically it was all sung in Spanish with 4 guest singers and didn't have a single Snarky song. Still great, though. A month earlier I saw Dirty Loops in a local club. Also great and they were surprisingly funny. Which brings me to this: Because of Ben Folds also bringing the extraordinary Jacob Collier to the Kennedy Center in September I learned about Snarky, Dirty Loops, Chris Thile and many more. Hadn't heard of Jacob either although he'd been a wunderkind youtuber starting 10 years earlier. You should react to him. You might start with his early covers when he was practically a teen like "All Night Long" or "Moon River" or more recent things from his DJesse Vol 4 album like "Little Blue" (the Mahogany sessions version) or "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" with Yebba, John Legend and Tori Kelly. It's hard to quickly describe the depth of his genius and talent but he plays over 20 instruments, has a wide and insanely precise vocal control and is also known online for his teaching, music theory and improvised 3 to 5 part harmony audience choirs. His piano improvisations in concert are amazing. He's almost 30 now has won 6 Grammys and is now touring North America maybe some where near you. That September concert I saw was the best I'd ever seen by far and I started out seeing concerts in the 1970's with Elvis, Carpenters, Stevie Wonder, Issac Hayes, The Who and so on. Speaking of Stevie, here's an early teen years sample cover that caught Quincy Jones attention. Quincy says Jacob is the most talented artist he's ever seen. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeuhqeqjthopdk

While Cory Henry's synth solo is brilliant, it's the underlying rhythmic arrangement that makes it work for me. The drummer, Larnell Lewis, Nate Werth on percussion, Michael League on bass, and Bill Laurance on keyboards held it together. Cory Henry's solo was like watching a Cirque de Soleil performance. It's breathtaking, but without the 'trapeze and rigging' it'd not work for minute after minute (for my ears). I love a good hornsection, and Snarky Puppy's is superb. Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮ PS - Please consider adding Jacob Collier to your list of artists. Maybe start with something from his teenage years, ie: _Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing - Jacob Collier_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeuhqeqjthopdk (6m:7s) It went 'viral, and caught the attention of Quincy Jones who asked his staff to "go find that kid". Jacob Collier's Grammy Winners on KZbin include: _ Flintstones - Jacob Collier_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKbEaWZnqtmqg68 (3m:10s) 2017 _ You And I (Audio) - Jacob Collier_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6baqaRtZZZ_oJY (4m:29s) 2017 _Jacob Collier - Moon River_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIGvdJ5je7mJrNk (8m:50s) _ Jacob Collier - All Night Long (Official Video)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKTToox9r5KNZ9U (7m:20s) _ Jacob Collier - He Won't Hold You (feat. Rapsody) ft. Rapsody_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ-kZqOlaKaGr6s (5m:5s) _Jacob Collier - Moon River_ won a Grammy in 2020. It's a cappella. The opening sequence is Jacob Collier, then his Mum, then two sisters (The thought of making a Grammy winner with his Mum [who raised them] and Sisters makes me remarkably happy 😂). "All Night Long (Official Video)" is a piece of 'maximalism'. So maybe don't go there first. Or second. I'm fond of: _ Jacob Collier - Little Blue | @MahoganySessions_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4LZq4tmj5h7e5Y (7m:53s) This is an acoustic version of the single by Jacob Collier and Brandi Carlile. It's the most comforting song I've ever heard. _Jacob Collier - Here Comes The Sun (feat. dodie)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/monJYqGLi8mJq68 Beatles (George Harrison) the rhythm is unusual. The setting is a sunny day in a North London garden ('yard' in US English)

@@PomadeJam Thank you for replying. I like your approach to reactions. You have some interesting and knowledgeable friends. Your choice of friend to react adds an extra dimension. I hope your channel grows. You might plan to react to Japanese bands. Japan has been "keeping music alive". Examples are "Band Maid" for rock, "Wagaki Band" for rock with a traditional twist, and "TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI" for 'funk'. Best Wishes. ☮

@@PomadeJam Band Maid are likely to attract the most views. They are very good female rock musicians, wearing maid costumes (the founder was involved in Japanese 'Maid' café culture and 'cosplay'). Their music prior to 2017's album "Just Bring It" was mostly their production company songs, but since "Just Bring It" they've written their own songs. I prefer their own songs. These are popular: _BAND-MAID / DICE (Official Music Video)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKGkiqGMf71sebs (4m:14s) upbeat & catchy _BAND-MAID / onset (Official Live Video)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fVf2CglLqWZrc (3m:58s) instrumental to give the lead vocalist a rest in long gigs. These are very good but their fans might say not their very best (yes, they are even better!). So plenty of opportunity for fans to suggest other songs and 'bond' with you. _The_ popular starting point for "Wagaki band" is the two song sequence _Wagakki Band - 焔 (Homura) + 暁ノ糸 (Akatsuki no Ito) / 1st JAPAN Tour 2015 Hibiya Yagai Ongakudo_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqDRhZV6ebKMoNk "Wagaki band" feature traditional Japanese instruments and modern rock instruments. AFAIK, it's the creation of the lead vocalist, who sings in a traditional Japanese style. _WHAT IS HIP ? (Cover)/TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI & Shinobu Kawashima_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJqwaI2po8p5bJY (6m:5s) is a reasonable place to start. It's a cover of '70s, Oakland CA ,'Tower of Power'. It features several solos. That bass player has left since then. There are literally dozens of Japanese bands, some very capable in all areas. You'll likely get recommendations if you enjoy the music, and are willing to pursue 'rabbits'. Best Wishes. ☮

lol for a reaction video, you are both completely emotionless and stone faced during the ENTIRE song, then just some subtle nods at the end “pretty good”. It’s even funnier when the song is usually considered by many to be one of the most impressive performances they’ve ever witnessed. 😂😂
