Great video... again cannot overstate how amazing this is that it is free for public knowledge... I have been struggling with keeping my feet stable... specifically trasitioning from the pulling stance to the receiving stance... my feet tend to "dance" (usually my right wants to jump back a slight bit). Would you recommend simply drilling the first movement form the part 1. Thanks

Good straightforward stuff guys, thanks. My C&J isn't too bad, but damn the snatch is technically demanding (for me anyway). I've put years into it, but I'm still learning all the time - that's the beauty I guess! Best wishes from the UK.

I respect that the guy in the middle platform at 1:00 lowered the bar all the way to the floor. Lowering the bar can show control over the weight and reinforce good form if done correctly. Especially when its 40kg or whatever those green plates are. Why throw it down when you could lower it?
@MrChrispbacon8

It could be from using hook grip. Is it between your thumb and index finger? It's a real tender area and will get painful/sore if you are just starting out. However, hook grip is the best way to do your oly lifts, just take it slow, your hands gotta build up to it. If the pain is in your wrist or metatarsals, than it could be from not using wrist wraps or just overuse. Whatever, you're going to hurt, just gotta push through it

You can just as easily tear ligaments, muscles, etc. doing bodybuilding. In fact, injuries are more common in bodybuilder than in Oly lifting. The injuries are usually not nearly as severe, but they're quite common.

When doing the overhead squat in the second half of the lift where should the weight be in your foot? I'm guessing in the ball of your foot, until the bar gets to the knees then switch the weight to your heals, right?

do you actually want to "bump" the bar with your hip? if i do step one the bar bounces way to much forward considering that the bar should travel close to the body the whole time. so it´s not really a pull if you know what i mean...i´m wondering if it just depends on how much wheight is on the bar (the bar will not travel forward anymore because of inertia). if i´m trying to avoid the bounce i´m not really extending the hip! can u explain? greetings from germany

It was a german lifter. Mathias Steiner. He had a slight injury, not dramatic, like some powerlifters or Boybuilders get, tearing muscles and tendons. He stopped lifting because he was now aware that with his family, he doenst want to take the risk of getting a big injury and possibly being disabled afterwards. But that injury only happened because he was desperate to get the 196kg snatch (to stay competitive). Normally he would've safely dropped that weight he told in an interview.

I've never been sure on where you're suppose to hit the bar on the 2nd pull. I've been trying to hit it off my hip but I've seen people hit it off their upper thighs as well, is it just preference or is one way preferred?

I know this isn't a question forum or anything, but whenever I catch my snatch in a squat I have pain in my hands. Power snatches don't effect my hands at all, but whenever I full snatch THAT'S when the pain in my hands start. Any advice on what I might be doing? (I use hook grip, and if this isn't specific enough for any pointers that's fine!)

as the guy states at the end of the video, once you reach this point you are ready to start snatching. Start being the key word, A snatch is a very explosive movement but learning requires several stages, control and an extremely high volume or reps. Hence the 40kg demo weight. Just sayin.

Because You might not want to overtrain or weaken your muscles/bones/insertions - that's the only reason, though. You're right, it can improve your form, show control and strengthen your bones and muscles, but like XxnkklllllxX said, "If someone wanted me to slow and controlled lower 130kg+, not gonna happen." Unless you're so strong that 130kg is easy for you, which is unlikely.

I don't get the "jump and catch" part.. Like, how can you exert so much force to snatch like 160kg with only such a small jump ??? Where do you have to generate that power from ? The cue as just jumping doesnt make sense to me..
@zcvhzd
@zcvhzd 8 жыл бұрын
Correct me someone if I'm wrong, but the jump represents the triple extension of the ankles, knees, hips, and the explosive force used to propel the bar upwards. The jump is basically an easy way to teach the explosiveness required because when you jump, you explode up, more or less. In reality, there isn't supposed to be a jump. You triple extend with the third pull, your ankles come off the ground for a split second, then you're back on your heels receiving the snatch (or clean). Again, I'm no expert, but more or less the purpose of using the jump is to teach the snatch and clean to beginners. As you perform the actual lifts and learn more about them and how you do them, it'll make more sense. If you're still confused, there are plenty of videos/articles/websites/etc on how to perform the snatch and clean and jerk.

Jatok This stuff seems to make sense though I never did a snatch. I've learned myself to clean and I'm gonna teach myself the jerk and snatch. Would you recommend learning these lifts by yourself? I plan on watching videos and reading about it, record myself while I do it and do it for 1-2 h before I add any weight at all. I have a base from normal lifting (squats, deadlifts, ohp). Is it safe or should I hit a coach?
@zcvhzd
@zcvhzd 7 жыл бұрын
Oscar Stenberg I would never recommend learning them by yourself but it's not particularly dangerous if you start with a PVC pipe or something. You can tape yourself and ask for tips on reddit.

Secondly, no you haven't seen time and again people injuring their shoulders and backs doing this lift. And no you haven't gained 100 pounds of muscle. You don't know anything about truth. You're a 22 year old kid who amuses himself by trying to make other people angry with your ignorant comments. You probably don't even lift weights. You are wasting your time, nobody is buying your nonsense. And thank you for all the comments on my videos, I appreciate it - it helps my SEO.
