Thank you for this information, this is something I struggled with. But this information has helped me feel better with my snatches.

I still have the same problem. I couldn't complete the lifts some times as I try to squat to the bottom after catching. I hope I'd be able to follow this advice and try learning to catch lower even with super light weights.

When the bar gets heavier I tend to catch high (power-snatch), as if I`m not feeling confident/stable (?) to squat and catch the bar lower. Any advice? Thank you!

What corrective exercises and/or tips do you recommend for someone who comes into weightlifting already fairly strong and has a tendency to hoist the weight overhead? I catch a lot of my lifts, both snatches and cleans, in high powers because I still lack confidence actively pulling under the barbell.

@@CatalystAthletics The paragraph beginning with "Fear of pulling under" certainly applies to me the most here inasmuch as I have strong pulling and squatting strength, but at some point the "certain death" mindset plays in, even though in a calm setting outside of training I know that I have the requisite strength to do the lifts I'm attempting. Will incorporate more of the recommended exercises (tall sn/cl, etc.) to get more confident with that portion of the movement. Quite helpful. Thank you.

Not sure. I have 3 signed by Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Black Flag (last two are behind my head), and all were gifts, and I've never looked that far into the guitars themselves.

why I get more stable arm lockout in push/power jerk but in split jerk I feel my arms are like spaghetti, also I get tendon pain in my elbow and shoulder, I try to relax my arms in jerk hold and do the pause in dip but still get the same result
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 5 жыл бұрын
Likely because when you power jerk, you're correctly focused on driving and pushing up, while when you split jerk, you think about pushing down so you drop out from under the bar.

Great weightlifters receive their snatch at very low height. After locking out they need only very little depth to absorb the weight. How to train a strong bottom position?
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 3 жыл бұрын
Great lifters are ABLE to receive their heaviest snatches at very low heights - they do not artificially force a low receiving height at lighter weights. See this video for more explanation - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnu5cqGdeNKMiLc As far as improving receiving position strength and stability, you can find several videos and articles on that here - www.catalystathletics.com/collection/1/Overhead-Position/

Sir I am lifting my snatch till the top but not able to stop them The snatch is falling back Sir please explain me that how can I fix it
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 3 жыл бұрын
That can be caused by many things - swinging the bar forward, pulling back overhead instead of pushing up, jumping forward as you pull under, leaning your chest too far forward as you pull under, not fixing the proper overhead position, etc. I would spend some time looking at all the free videos and articles at www.catalystathletics.com to help determine what the cause is so you can fix it.

I want to step it up when locking shoulders and elbows into the snatch. All of it. From standing throughout to the bottom (OHS) position . Tighter, stronger, etc. What might you suggest ? Thanks Greg.

For an aspiring, novice weightlifter, does the mixed grip deadlift have any application?
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 5 жыл бұрын
Not really. Snatch and clean deadlifts will build strength but in the posture needed to transfer maximally to the snatch and clean. Use hook grip and no straps for as long as possible - grip development should be a priority for new weightlifters.

Greg, I’m looking to invest into bumper plates for my garage gym. I’m not sure if I should buy pounds or kilos.

Kilos. It's what's used by every weightlifting federation in the universe. Easy to convert to pounds if you have to explain what you're lifting to dorks who don't use kg.
