Update: No joke... I sold this the same day that I recorded this video. The final price was $740. Sold in December 2024.

Dang! I saw that one on FB and was hoping to snag it later, glad you sold it for a nice price! Awesome game for sure, one of my faves.

Correction at 1:35 - Kojima did Metal Gear on the MSX computer console. The NES version and its sequel are notorious for being not worked on by Kojima and he vehemently disavows them.

Yep, you're totally right about that! My bad!

No videogame will ever be worth paying that sort of money for, even if it's a killer rare game like Snatcher.

Agreed.

It's worth what people are paying for it which currently at the moment is $1200US.

I paid $40 at a flea market at the time and I still have it in my possession, it's as good as new. I'm never going to sell it even if the record could deteriorate over time. This game exudes a vibe that no other game can match

I definitely have some games in my collection that I feel the same way about.

Literally my favorite game from back in the day. This version too. AWESOME title. I think it was like 49.99 at the time, so adjust for inflation, I too paid 1200 dollars for this.

It's a gem for sure!

Metal gear was not only on NES that was way after the game was released initially… metal gear was originally on some gaming computer in Japan only I’m surprised you didn’t know that AVGN did and that’s how I learned it .

The $19.99 reproduction plays well too.
@travisbowmanmusic25 күн бұрын
Yeah, that's cool. I always have a hard time buying repros when I could just burn a copy and look up the manual online.
@briantran379125 күн бұрын
@ That’a fair. The technology to burn iso were around back in 2000z

If money was no object, yes. The game is a classic and worth owning. I personally have a hard time spending that much on ANY game. A price like that is reserved for maybe 1-2 games in my collection in CIB/NEW condition for games that are incredibly important to me. Which is why I have pristine CIB's of Chrono Trigger and Mario RPG. However, I got those long before things exploded and paid less than $200 each, same with my pristine pokemon set. I genuinely wouldn't be able to collect some of the stuff I have these days.

Unfortunately.. money is almost certainly an object.

I tend to not get into repros, but I can definitely see the appeal.

I can completely agree with you I would never spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a sega cd games and the sega cd attachment is also notoriously expensive especially on ebay and you don’t know what conditions they are in and the units are getting rarer each year and even my local retro gaming store doesn’t have them in stock and I got mega everdrive pro for my childhood sega genesis model 1 high definition graphics a couple of years ago and I couldn’t be happier and plus it gives me a chance to play them since I’ve never owned a sega cd and I also have a flash carts for my other retro consoles in my collections and I never need to remove the cartridges which saves wear and tear and whenever I need to update the firmware or add more roms I just remove the micro sd card and stick it into my computers card reader and I’m in the process of adding odes to my cd based consoles which is similar to the flash carts and it definitely makes it convenient and never have to worry about disc rots or the game cartridges contacts corroding due to blowing on them in old days and now I can preserve the complete rom and iso sets forever without worries and I’m a happy camper. 😊

The Vectrex and games are worth way more than one copy of Snatcher. I would not have made that trade. The Vectrex machine alone is ~$800, not to mention the games.
@travisbowmanmusic20 күн бұрын
That's certainly true on paper. In reality, the Vectrex was up for sale for months with no serious buyers, and it would have been very tedious to ship. I sold Snatcher literally two days after I got it. Plus, I didn't have all that much into the Vectrex. Despite what you think, the smart thing for me was to make that trade.

Disc rot is real and I agree that Sega CD games seem particularly susceptible to it. I have a copy of Final Fight CD that has a collection of small pin holes that you can see when held up to the light. It stinks, but I can live with a 30.00-50.00 loss. The max that I will spend for expensive games is 250-300. Any more than that and I feel like it stops making sense.
@travisbowmanmusic25 күн бұрын
This is why I haven't begun collecting Sega CD or Saturn... They're awesome games, but I worry about my Dreamcast discs holding up in the next few years too.... ODE's for the win... or should I say, ODE's for the future...?
@mustypipes660228 күн бұрын
The other reason Snatcher was so expensive, at least imop, it was one of Hideo Kojima's first titles.
@travisbowmanmusic18 күн бұрын
Can't agree more.
@jesseglidden32128 күн бұрын
I personally enjoy having grails in my collection but only if they mean something to me. I would never spend big money on a game solely for the fact that it’s rare and valuable. I don’t drop entire paychecks on expensive games when I want them but instead tuck $10-$20 per week away in an envelope and pretend it doesn’t exist until I have enough to get what I want. That’s the exact method I’ve used to obtain my copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Magic Knight Rayearth for Sega Saturn amongst others. I can’t stand repros and absolutely refuse to have them in my collection unless they are officially licensed like the SNES carts put out by Limited Run Games but I don’t blame others for utilizing them if they’re comfortable with them. I have ODE’s and Everdrives for all of my retro consoles so I still get to play whatever I want.
@shawntorres626229 күн бұрын
I have a feeling Limited Run Games is gonna grab the rights from Konami to print this game physically for the current generation consoles.

Considering you can burn it onto a CD and plop it into your Sega CD no mods required...no it isn't worth hundreds of dollars lol. This is how I played and beat it.

Owning originals isn't for everyone I can see where you are coming from and mostly agree, in some cases I think the emotional attachment to something can outweigh reason also.

You must not know a lot of Neo Geo collectors... They pay a LOT more than this for a single cartridge game!
@geoffreychauvin147419 күн бұрын
With as old as these games are and bitrot being a thing, the answer is a definitive no, regardless of how you feel about the game. I'm not one to advocate for emulation and piracy when stuff is readily available but no one in their right mind should be paying $1200 for a Sega CD game
@travisbowmanmusic18 күн бұрын
Some might feel that way absolutely, but in the same way that some people like to own things mint or all original parts it's definitely different strokes for different folks for sure. I mostly agree with you but sometimes there's just something about having original or classic no matter what kind of collection is it.
@garethc7827 күн бұрын
Sadly the answer is no, retro gaming prices have now become a joke and as much as the purist in me likes original hardware, I find justification hard when emulation is near perfect for a lot of systems. Bitch and moan as much as you like but it’s not SEGA or Kojima who is profiting from the markup eBay prices of Snatcher!
