And what do you say about the color accuracy and color rendition of OLED? I note that to date no reference monitors use OLED. To my eye, the OLED iPhones have significantly worse image quality when comparing the same photo on any OLED iPhone vs any LCD device. And all the OLED iPhones have no white point, with a slight change in viewing angle changing the color balance noticeably. And for the record, I have a masters degree in Photography, not that I claim any specialty in color grading, but my eyes picked up these differences immediately when I laid eyes on each generation of “Pro” OLED iPhones

For me the iPad Pro replaced my mobile computer many years ago. All I need for mobile work is browsing, mails, watching KZbin/movies. I had the 12.9” iPad Pro since the beginning in 2015, then the 2018 and now the M1. At home I watch mostly on loudspeaker so good quality quad speakers is a must. And I love the mini-LED and 120Hz screen. But in theory the new 13” iPad Air would work fine for me too if I could live without the nice to have features of the pro. I will skip this generation of pro because my M1 is really all I need. Even the 2018 was more than enough.

My mom wants a larger iPad for watching shows off Netflix, so she only has the pro line to look at. A lighter pro line pretty much would benefit her more than a longer battery life, so there’s that. And if you haven’t realised, most “pro” users don’t buy pros, because they need a pro model. That said, I’m still more than happy using my M1 Pro for work 😂😂. Not upgrading, but just wanted to point out that “professionals” aren’t usually the main user base for pro models

Wow, that's dirty 9:22. They announced the M4 with 10-cores, but only if you pay for the top specs. The RAM difference is also crazy. I get the binning of chips, and the early runs are going to give them crap, but for a $1000 base price computer missing cores and memory is kind of crazy, and not until you spend another $600 is crazy. Ya, Apple rakes in the extra cash with memory and storage but it's dirty hiding the details on the chip.
@snazzy
@snazzy 3 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say they're "hiding it" per se, but they definitely don't draw attention to it. It's a bummer. Should be listed and stated more prominently even though most users (even "Pro" users) aren't likely to hit that limitation big-time on an iPad.
@halami2149
@halami2149 3 ай бұрын
They announced it saying “up to 10 core cpu” as opposed to flat out “it has 10 core cpu”. The “up to” is a clear indication that you’d have to pay extra somehow to get the non binned chip. It’s been like that with the MacBooks, although they have that on the configurator front and center

Which is still rather impressive. It's pretty rare to see such big jumps from one gen to the next these days in the processing world. Intel were shoving out 5-15% at best "improvements" for years before AMD became competitive again and forced them to care. They've only really been getting better performance in more recent years by just throwing more power at the problem too. Look how crazy hot the "14th" gen stuff gets and how much juice is gobbles.

Well, don't forget the extra cores, they are just efficiency cores, but it's still counts in the performance, don't make the same mistake like Snapdragon X Elite hypers do, they are compare the 12p core against 4p+4e cores, and they are happy.. is that really a big success if 12 adults are stroger like 4 adults and 4 childrens..? So always keep your eye on the cores amount difference too, and M4 got 2 extra cores, im not saying it's not impressive, it's just not a 25% jump (btw at this level of technology, even the yearly 10-15% is a success)

“Biggest day for the iPad since the original iPad“. What a meme. I won’t be able to take apples marketing team seriously anymore if this is what they consider a big day. 50% faster chip in already overpowered and underutilized machine? No thanks, how about battery life, battery life, battery life. Oh, and did I mention battery life? Then there’s software, Software, OLED screen, and SOFTWARE. The double layer oled is super exciting. My ipad works perfectly fine, so I'm not going to buy a new one just because of that, but it's very cool to see the progress in high end display tech continue. I really really hope they figured out a way to properly cool both of those oled layers, otherwise we might see a much shorter lifespan for those compared to older ipads. And replacing the screen will probably be insanely expensive.

I think apple needs to take a hint from the late 90s, when Steve Jobs first returned, and simplified the product line: He made it into a 4-quadrant grid: Consumer desktop, consumer laptop, pro desktop, and pro laptop. Perhaps the ipad needs to be in a similar(ish) pattern, my idea being: Consumer medium-size (air 11", but renamed to just "iPad"), consumer small (Current iPad mini), pro medium-size (11" iPad Pro), and pro large (13" Pro). I wonder what other people think of this idea.
@TalesOfWar
@TalesOfWar 3 ай бұрын
Jobs simplified the line up because... they were literally days away from being bankrupt. They couldn't afford the big product web so they killed everything but those 4 basic things. Apple don't have that problem now. Their market cap is $2.8trillion, they have $162billion in cash on hand. They make more in profit in a quarter than most companies make in revenue in a year, or several. The times they have a-changed, and now they can offer a much broader range of SKU's for a wider range of markets and needs, including being super niche with things like the Vision Pro.

@@snazzy it’s like a huge meme amongst gen z that iPads are cool in the first week but ultimately never see use and become dust collectors. Also the upgrade cycle is like 6 years plus for the average person lol nobody upgrades these things ever especially gen x users…they’re still on that 9.7 inch ipad grind and to apples credit those machines work amazing still for entertainment and web browsing. They do 99 percent of what any new iPad does. I don’t think price laddering has been good for the iPad. That 9th gen base model iPad does the best for a reason the last 3 years.

I am someone who needs to switch from iPad Air 2. So definitely I will need to get the accessories that will support the new device. I have seen multiple times on the Internet people requesting a new pencil/stylus for the iPad, now they are sad because they cannot use the previous version. Another thing, if you are not going to use all the bells and whistles from the Pencil pro, you can get the usb-c version as a cheaper option. Here’s the thing, and most of us know this, you don’t need to upgrade your device every year or 2, let it live with you unless you need the actual feature

Thanks for a super-great intro to these new IPads. This is the best and most objective breakdown review I’ve heard so far. Now for an example of who likes the new iPad Pro and what they intend to do with it, I suggest checking out the latest Petapixel podcast here on KZbin. The title is something like “Apple is now a camera company.” One of the reviewers loves Mac and does a lot of video shooting and editing (more than KZbin.) the other one hates Mac and owns a monster microsoft laptop. Yet both of them love IPad and use it in their workflows. The review of the new Final Cut is what you need to pay attention to.

Haptic feedback on the pencil is interesting, looking forward to your review on it. I would have been more impressed if the blunt end was an eraser. I do have a question for people with the 16GB models, Compared with 8GB models does the reload/refresh of apps occur when multi-tasking between apps? I assume this happens because the machine needs to cache memory to disk due to the limit of 8GB. Any direction to an explanation why iPads reload content while switching apps would be appreciated.

This iPad seriously makes the previous one way more appealing as an upgrade for a 2018 or 2020 model. Benefits of going M2 over M4 - You get the faster storage on the base model - You don’t lose a camera - You don’t have to buy a new Pencil or Magic Keyboard One of the benefits of the M4 model, which is obviously the performance, is already compromised by the binned chip on the base model. Is a binned M4 even that much better than a full M2?

Nobody else (other reviewers) seem to even mention or raise concerns about the burn in that you might encounter with the long term use of OLED screens but it's something I am really worried about. Like for example if you are an artist using the same drawing app daily with the UI constantly showing on your screen that would possibly leave a mark and damage your screen overtime
