The Doheny Ranch is one of the great stories from the early days of 20th Century LA. Frank Lloyd Wright (the most famous architect of the 20th century) wanted to create a "hanging gardens" residential community, homes that would be built into the Beverly Hills hillside. The 411 acre site was owned by a oilman Edward Doheny would feature retaining walls, bridges and walled gardens. The project was killed because Doheny was part of the infamous Teapot Dome scandal. (Wright also had a play resort planned for Runyon Canyon that never went forward.)
