I am a firm believer that with few exceptions, when it comes to shoes, you get what you pay for. Pay the extra money for the quality; your body with thank you. Bad shoes have a cascading effect on your whole skeletal structure, as well. I have expensive dress shoes that I have worn for over 10 years and they still look great. I have a pair of high quality winter boots that I have worn (obviously only in winter) since 1996.

I have tried cheap(usually made in China) vs moderately expensive(US, Italy, UK made) shoes and believe me when I say expensive ones are more comfortable and last way longer. Axel arigato proud to add that their sneakers are glued an stiched, cemented to keep top keep its shape, etc. Leather shoes should be goodyear welted or blake. Quality is a good investment. You save money in the end.

It's funny, for years, I've thought nothing of the quality/overall build of shoes/bags, etc. I've been going down this KZbin bubble for a while now, I've made a few initial purchases (spec. shoes and a bag), and I've gotten more compliments on the past two weeks than I've gotten in years. Comfort and support are two of the most important things to consider when purchasing shoes. If you have sore feet because of your shoes then you bought the wrong shoes. I always paid top dollar for my work boots because I did 10 hour shifts on concrete floors 5 to 6 days a week. The same applies to dress or casual shoes.

I do agree and I've been gradually moving my shoe (and trainer/sneaker) up quality. I'm still undecided about whether white leather sneakers are worth it. They look fantastic when new but all the white leather sneakers I've had in the past start to look tired quickly due to staining. I'm not sure whether higher quality white leather sneakers would stay whiter longer or whether it's better to buy mid-range and replace them more frequently. But I agree with all other colours and have just replaced my black and tan leather sneakers with excellent hand made versions.

Great video with attention to the details that matter. Having said that, I know my gauge for $$ I will spend on anything is, would I have worn this item last year or the year before. If so, they are likely more timeless and I will spend the bucks. If they are the latest and greatest, I go on the cheap knowing that if I like them enough, I won't mind putting out the cash for the quality replacement.

If you're spending that much on a pair of casual sneakers, you might as well buy one that is the most comfortable and stylish like Adidas Ultra Boost. Boost is the best technology out right now, and the Primeknit upper is like wearing a sock.
@wickedragaming78365 жыл бұрын
id argue that the ultraboost mesh will definitely degrade, fray, or get way too dirty and beat up after a while with the boost pellets, having them myself. And I am a person who uses shoe cleaners, laundry, the works basically to keep them clean. I get what your saying in that the price is already there, why not get a great sneaker like the ultrabook (no pun intended) since it's very comfortable, etc., but I feel it's too casual for some things, or leather will simply hold up much longer and be a better investment.

I am not surprised at all. I wear heels a lot and I know that when it comes to women's shoes, you get what you pay for. When I was in my first year at college, I made the mistake of buying very cheap heels because I was just going to wear them once, with an outfit that I was only going to wear once, (no not a wedding dress, LOL) anyway, they were horrible and my feet were killing me at the end of the evening. 40 Over Fashion can you Review Trickers shoes from England, they seem like the White Collar version of Red Wing Boots and Oxford shoes in terms of durability or another brand (American Brand if necessary, like Allen Edmonds I suppose, if that is more feasible) that has RedWing Boots and Shoes durability, but less Blue collar? Love Red Wings, but it feels inauthentic wearing them as I am not a welder or construction worker, which is the history of the shoe?

I was waiting for you to recommend that it is still wise to use cedar shoe trees in leather sneakers just as you would in a leather dress shoe. Love the topic, cheap v expensive, I have a pair of handmade British leather Brogues that I purchased over 40 years ago, I have had them re-soled. You get what you pay for, however when it comes to leather shoes you need to feed the leather by using a good quality shoe polish and I was told that you should alternate your shoes for example don't wear the same shoe day after day as it gives time for the shoe to air. Love the topic, I don't tend to wear sneakers as I prefer the classic English look, if I am going casual I will go with some leather loafers or a brown leather Chelsea boot. My favourite brand has to be Loakes a British company that still makes them in the UK, however some are imported.

I was brought up with the lesson that you can skimp on pretty much any clothing except shoes and socks! Get the best of both and your life is more comfortable and long term healthy as not only well made shoes support you better aiding better posture but because they are more comfortable for longer periods you end up walking more! Good seamless toe socks in natural materials aid that comfort

I learnt that "on what you step or lay, you must invest" in a tough way. It was 1999, and I can't remember if it was the weekend before or after Thanksgiving. A couple of friends of mine and I had planned a shopping trip. we bumped this classmate who was going home and he invited us to his family's ranch for a weekend hunt. So we just bought cheap items at either Walmart or K-mart. Bad decision. long story short the boots I bought cracked near the instep( I bought those because it said leather and made in the USA) to make it even better the morning they cracked we had sleet and a 4-mile walk to the point where they were supposed to pick me up. Got terribly sick. so since that day, I avoid cheap shoes.

I'm not really sure if quality and pricing is dependent on the locality because here in our country, we do have cobblers (there's a city labeled as the "shoe capital") but our "high end" prices are nowhere near the prices for US quality leather shoes.

Completely agree with your conclusion using 2 shoes that are vastly different in price and quality. One thing I have discovered is absolutely true is something I was told as a rather naive kid - take good care of your feet. I do not buy cheap shoes. They destroy your feet and you will pay for it later in life. I am not looking at the price, I am looking at the quality. If given the option between two items of equivalent quality and one if less expensive, of course, I will purchase that item. When one gets older [and I am 65], one appreciates having feet [not to mention ankles and knees] that do not hurt.

@helloken Жыл бұрын
I think each pair of shoes has to be evaluated independently for quality. On the low end like maybe a Zara pair of $40 shoes, you're getting not very good quality and therefore not very good value. In the middle might be something like Thursdays at $129 (in 2023) or Greats at $179 (also in 2023), which seem like the sweet spot for great value. At the higher end you have things like Goral and Crown Northhampton and maybe even Common Projects (at least in price). No doubt many ppl agree Common Projects are not worth the money for what you get, but something like Crown may also simply cost too much, even if you get more quality. Basically, it's the law of diminishing returns after a while. If you can pay 50% of the price (Greats vs Crown) and get 80% of the quality, then greats come out as the best value for your dollar. Typically in any industry you pay a lot more to get a little more when it comes to the most expensive products, because eventually there is a limit to how much better something can be, and there is always a premium for 'the best'. Seems to me like $100 - $250 seems to be the sweet spot for value.

How about comparing a happy medium, for example the same type of shoe that's in the 70-80 dollar range

Hi Jerre! Yes, that's been brought up a few times. I'll try for a closer comparison next time! :)

I agree if the design and color can easily fit any clothing style, spending more because the sneaker lasts longer makes sense. But Zara is disposable fashion, whereby people wants change at a faster rate. So the quality lasting for 4-months seemed logical. But the latter is not environmentally friendly. So I will prefer a good lasting footwear.

I have a pair of the black Greats and they are really comfortable. I ordered a white pair the same size and I just didn't like the way they look. For some reason they were bigger than the black pair and didn't look as "great".

Interesting.. I have both the black pair and the white pair, and they're both perfect.

I might just go out and grab me some Greats!! Buying a bunch of sub par shoes that fall apart after a couple wears isn't worth it!

I have a K Swiss that is very similar. Full leather and holding up very well. On top of that I have a bunch of shoes in my rotation so it hardly get worn anyway. Probably once every few weeks. Wanted the Greats but I find it baffling that a shoe company that makes such high quality shoes can't make a shoe in the proper size. Company website says their shoes run half a size large. I wear a 13 on most shoes and they don't make a 12 and a half. And they didn't respond to an email request in regards to size suggestion. The first comprable shoe company I run across that make the same high-quality or better that are true to size will get my money. I noticed there are quite a few sneaker companies that can't get their sizes right. Lead me to believe they're all made by the same Craftsman under different brands. Anyway great video. Meanwhile my high quality less expensive shoes suit me quite well.

Thank you! Interesting about the sizes though.

@@40OverFashion Well my wait looks like a short one. Ace Mark is making a sneaker very similar called "Duke Sneaker". I already own several of their shoes and the fit is perfect. They currently have a killer deal on their dress shoes by the way. I highly suggest you check them out. Their shoes are gorgeous and fit broke in right out of the box.

Some expensive shoes are a rip-off too, like some people here on youtube complained on Hush Puppies using cheap materials & selling them at high prices then the soles suddenly cracked & break apart. For 3rd world countries the cost of a Hush Puppies Brand shoe is already considered expensive but it is far from a Common Projects (expensive depends on your income & which part of the world you are).

Hi Bernard! Yes, I have experienced the high price & low quality before... not fun. Thanks for your comment!

Depends on the style of the shoe! Classics never go out of style and worth the money if its a TRENDY shoe then not worth the extras cash!!!!!

I have the same shoe in black and I love them. I have the KOIO in white ... I have to say the Greats have “broken in “a lot quicker.

40 Over Fashion a closer and more difficult comparison would be between the New Republic Kurt and the Greats Nero. I don’t have a personal experience with the Kurt but they look about equal
@40OverFashion5 жыл бұрын
That would be a good one! I don't own any New Republic, but maybe I'll have to get some.

I've tried two pairs which i bought online with a rrp of £250 that were heavily reduced and took them both back as they didn't fit right. I'm not convinced that it's worth me spending much on this type of shoe as it's a trainer for casual wear and I don't plan to dress it up or spend all day walking about in them. I've gone for a pair which cost £23 and I find them more comfortable, they have a removable insole and I think leather soles offer the most breathability in the summer and I already have some of them wth goodyear welting in the form of brouges. When i was a lot younger i had cheap canvas trainers that lasted ages so I'm not convinced. If i get a bit of grease on them from the barbacue no problem or spill some wine on them who cares.

I went through you video list and see you have a few shoe videos but no shoe care or maintenance and what you might do, like how many of your shoes do you use shoe trees in and what and care and cleaning of course.
