Hi Coach Tom, Charlie from the Isle of man here. a little off topic, i'd love to here your take on the most technically gifted fighter's you've watched. also from watching your breakdowns, (they are excellent you have the most uncanny ability to break things to down so that people like myself can understand and learn) is there a reason i see alot of modern boxers like anthony joshua so upright and straight? is that a U.K thing? Thanks for the great content. Can't recommend this channel enough.

This switches of stances seems so effective. It seems to me that professional heavyweight fighters are not using them, or barely using them. Also change of the shoulder trajectory is something that coach tom explained to perfection.
@AlbertoVVale4 жыл бұрын
Nice vídeo once again. Before I found your channel I would assume a stance that was like leaning a little bit forward kinda like Arturo Gatti would do, and although I could do all the switch stance and even moves à la Lomachenko, since I incorporated your views about body mechanics and stance, everything got way easier to do and I move with a lot more flow.

Very nice! My question is: instead of doing a shuffle switch, could stepping with the right foot diagonally forward and outside to change to Southpaw stance also accomplish the purpose of evading the opponent’s overhand right while setting up a counter?

Brother you just gotta start slow.. Drill in sections and bring your speed up eventually.. Believe and you will improve.. I'm sure when this guy started he didn't look this impressive
@thebodykeepsthescore28284 жыл бұрын
It takes a long time, but if you drill daily in sections, and in slow motion, over the months and years you will see improvement. This is why combat sports are often referred to as a young man/woman's game. Because it takes many, many years of drills and repetition to get good enough for a career in whatever art you choose.

Eh. Needing to switch both his feet and to shift his body seems like too much work when the whole reason boxers get punched is,because,they,cant register fast enough to move put of the way after the opponet punch is thrown. Simple side steps would do the same much easier and quicker. And, as one person to pivot around the opponet. I would also incorporate more aspects with the arms. Beginning level may be to keep the arm up to also block as well as to pivot to enhance the bloch to that side. More advance level, they will learn to block with ine hand while also using the samexbody movement to punch with the other hand. Still more advanced, same step and pivot to the side, but also learning how to slide your hand and arm on the same side to deflect their punch while also fallowing through into a punch. Remember a block does not have to just put your arm in the way. Or with some hard styles, blocks are used to break and damage the attacking arm. In soft styles a block it to subtly redirect the punch at them. With a still more advance fighter they know howbto do a soft block to redirect no more than needed, while also,doing so,in,a,hard breaking style all in one smooth and hard moment. All the while slipping the block through, and into a punch. Then still more advance is not juat blocking and redirecting into slipping a punch down the arm of the opponet. But, then they also learn how,to do so on the inside of their opponets arm as well as the outside of the opponets arm. In doing so, you can still controlexyour opponets arms with lining up your elbow with the striking arm. With of course stepping to better position your angle and take away the opponets angle, and to pivot while doing so to constantly be moving, and using your movement to enhance both the defence and offence reponce,,all in one movement. All which takes away all Angel's od the opponet. It's really not so hard to do,,once a person knows,how. And,,it completely takes away any,reach advantage of any opponent you may fight. All,the while always giving you the reach advantage because you know how to manipulate both yourself and your opponents moments.
